How O'Shea and Amon retained their spots is baffling to say the least, as was the use, make that non use, of Toumpas last week, and Sam Gray the week before.

Re coaching contracts, whether Ken has lost his hunger, and Voss isn't up to it, is beside the point, as both have 2 years left, and the club couldn't afford to pay them out, and even if we could afford it the Choco contract debacle is still fresh enough to once again make the club the laughing stock of the comp.

It wouldn't be difficult to mount a strong case that the midfield has gone backwards since the Voss appointment, and the team as a whole since Hart arrived, but the cold, hard facts are, the club is almost certainly stuck with them for the duration of their contracts, because it is highly unlikely any other club will take them on.

Re the game against the toast, I'm obviously hoping for a Power win, but hope is all I have atm, and it won't surprise me at all if we are in for a 50 plus smacking. :'(

Can't see us winning but even if we conjure a win somehow it won't be enough to convince most of us that we've reached a turning point in the season. If we lose as expected then the whole club will under even more pressure. Still I'd a take a win any day of the week but it's far from ideal going into a game with limited upside only.

For every ground ball he runs straight over or fumbles I'm going to skull a beer.

I'm gonna be extremely drunk.
I'm driving, for every efficient disposal and tackle I'm going to down a six-pack.

I'll be fine

The gold pass calls for O'Shea are just plain silly. If Carlile was ready to come in then he would have, and Cam would be out. O'Shea has been in the side for four games this year, why would a player with a "gold pass" be missing half our games?

He just played the worst game by a Port Adelaide player in living memory including a baffling indefensible clanger which arguably cost us the game, and he's still in the side?

West Coast have a tall forward line and we have a short defence. We could've replaced him with Carlile, the in-form Howard or the debuting Austin to address that issue. Or we could have kept the current structure and replaced him with Colquhoun who had a huge game in the SANFL. There is zero justification for Cam O'Shea playing this week ahead of any of those guys, other than perceived 'upside' based on a good season he played 3 years ago. And if we're basing our selections on ancient history upside, why is John Butcher who once kicked 6 goals in a game sitting in the SANFL behind Jake Neade who hasn't even kicked 6 goals in 8 games?

I'm not even angry anymore, our selections have been horrible since 2014 and it's not going to change until Ken gets the arse.

At this point, I just feel plain sorry for John Butcher.

since i generally go against the grain, im trying my hardest to find something positive to say about these selections. Its an even sadder day for me cos i simply cant disagree with anyone :(

true. but i said selections, not inclusions. Robbie is a given, its the rest of the selections that is of concern.
Don't disagree.

I would have oshea out after that absolute disaster of a game last week. He's been OK the previous few weeks though. So maybe he's been given the chance to redeem himself. Otherwise that handball could have been a career killing error

having only watched the game on tv, im really hoping there was a lot of off the ball stuff he was doing. only thing i can think of

So West Coast Have:
Lycett 203cm
Nic Nat 201cm
Kennedy 196cm
Mckenzie 196cm
Schofield 196cm
MCGovern 195cm
Darling 191cm

We Have:
Dixon 202cm
Westhoff 199cm
Trengove 197cm
Hombsch 193cm
O'shea 193cm
Jonas 188cm

Not only are we chronically short, we are also 1 player tall player short. Even if our midfield fires, Jeremy McGovern may then simply be on record mark pace. All of those talls, outside perhaps Lycett, are good to very good and all are experienced. All have body strength as well. Blind Freddy can see that we need another tall in the side to at least make them accountable. Weather is meant to be perfect too. The more I think about this, the more I think we are going to get slaughtered.

Mitchell was banished for all eternity for less than what O'shea did to screw our chances last week. Even then, Mitchell kills it at SANFL level and never gets a call up. O'shea plays okay and gets a call up because of injuries to backs. HURRDURRR PLAY WELL IN SANFL AND GET SELECTED DURRR. The least we could ****ing do is select Mitchell and Hoon who will both have a crack and are racking it up at SANFL level to put pressure on the under performers and force them back to find some form. Zero accountability, zero. Not rewarding form in a side that is travelling beyond shite is unforgivable. Mitchell and Hoon WILL be better and are in better form than a number of our current 22. The only reason we aren't bringing them in is because they aren't favorites. Has to be.

What further ****s me off here is that through injury and suspension we made changes to our defensive structure - which paid off. Our press started to work much better. It took injuries for them to fix structure.

We get injuries up forward and we still don't fix the structure. Our forward structure will never ever be fixed under this coaching group, we have no system whatsoever. Our inside 50's are in the top few in the comp, but our conversion is one of the worst. That stems from both midfield delivery and from poor structure. You would think if we are delivering it poorly into the F50 by lollypopping it, you would go a bit taller to at least play to that. No - we persist to back our midfield in to fix their disposal forward while we continue to bang it in to Dixon 3vs1 with Westhoff hopefully getting a hold of a few that are lobbed to the top of the square.

I can't handle this.

Just trying to be really positive here maybe Ken has given O'Shea a chance to pull a superb game out of his arse to make amends for his performance. I guess everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves. I'm just trying to understand selections.

However there have been plenty that have been so blah week in, week out it is not funny. What message are we sending them by leaving them in. I get players need to play themselves into form but this is not happening.

This maybe the exact kind of game when we shake the shackles and play defiantly because we are expected to lose anyway. If we do this then our coaching box needs to take a good look at their plans going forward as they are not working in the overall scheme of things.

... or we get first use and run them off their feet and expose lack of leg speed.... clutching... i know.

I think this bit is the key to O'Shea's retention. The "idea" of him is good - we've looked much better this year with seven and with mobility at the back. Having said that, part of our looking better was increased gut-run, so of course no Toump.:drunk:

I find his failure to take responsibility and just giving it up to a player in a worse position unforgivable, clearly the coaches feel that nobody else's form forces him out. Cam wasn't the only player to fail the take responsibility test last week - see taking a shot at goal.

lol thanks for reminding me. Toumpas gets dropped on reasonable form while others get retained on horrendous form. Port Powah Yes.
