This. And a team with 1/2 AFL listed players should be a hell of a lot better than 2:5

As Reece Homfray wrote, last week against the Eagles the Port Magpies had
  • 11 top up players most of who would not get a game at another SANFL club.
  • Average age of 22.1 compared to the Eagles average age of 24.8
  • Seven players with less than 10 SANFL games while the Eagles had eight players with 100+ SANFL games.
If we cop injuries to the AFL side it will affect the SANFL on top of that injuries to Frampton, Johnson and Snelling have not helped. This is not an excuse but a fact of life imposed on us by the SANFL.

Realistically though if you forget the overachieving years of 2013 and 2014 and someone told you at the end of 2012 that we would be a mid table side in 15-16 I'd be surprised still. After 2012 I didn't think we would be even within 5 years of Finals, we lost nearly every possible stat in the game in those couple of years. We just shot out of the blocks early , got underneath a few guards and got some surprising early results, but looking at the realistic picture when Ken took the job we are probably back where we should be.

Unfortunately ken and a few others took too much out of 13 and more specifically 2014 and have made a cascade of poor decisions in recruitment amongst others since. He's also lost some quality thinkers in the box and here we are.
Plus we lost Ryder and Lobbe for the season and a extended period, Gus for the year, Matty White for half the year, Robbie Gray has missed 3 games, Wingard looked a million bucks in round 1, did a hammy in the Showdown, got concussed, and is still searching for his mojo as he hasn't had a run at it. We lost Bobby for a small chunk of the season so far, Schultz hasn't played since round 1 and is still a while away and the depth we all thought we had isn't as strong as we thought.

Then you factor in Boak being down on form, Hartlett ditto, Ebert ditto, Polec coming back from a major injury from last year was never going to hit the ground running, Ollie ditto, then ya realize on top of the factors you've named the first half of this season was always going to be a battle.

If we can somehow get to 6-5 or 7-4 then the 2nd half of the year may open up for us but then again it may not.

Tomorrow will answer that question for me, can this patched up side compete and beat West Coast? If it does the confidence gained will be immeasurable.

Exactly, which is why I think it's time to get our reserves out of the SANFL shit hole and let the SANFL sink (they can take Crowey and Studley with them for all I care.) There is absolutely no goodwill left for them from me, zilch.

That would be the way to go but where to go is the question ?

The AFL do not appear to be interested in a National Reserves competition which leaves only the SAAFL which would be no competition or the VFL which would be expensive.
