One thing is that I don't think Broadbent's form is to do with poor effort. This is a bad omission.

I've caught Broady ball watching in the press a few times(last year) Directly led to his man creating end to end goals. I thought he had fixed up a bit of it this season but it seems with his poor offensive form he hasnt and its enough to be dropped for.

Worryingly carry said that S Gray will bring great forward line pressure .... Read into that what you will but I doubt he will be going through the midfield. One would suspect he will be the sub

I would hope everyone would be strongly considered next week who doesn't have a run in the SANFL, seeing as how Cornes won't be playing.
I don't wanna read too much into it but he sort of said something about how professional Broady is and a week off won't hurt him or something... maybe there's more to it than just form

Impey gets injured, we bring in Krak. Good call. Defense plays well.

Impey returns, we keep Krak, bring in O'Shea to cover for Carlile, send Broadbent into the middle. Throwing the defense out of balance because there's too many defenders and no real defined roles.

So this week, we drop our worst performing rebound defender (Broadbent - Krak and Pittard have been better than him) and the replacement for Carlile (O'Shea). Good call.

What I don't want to see is Broadbent back unless one of Krak, Pittard or Impey goes out of the team or gets shifted into a different role.

Happy with Broadbent out, we had one too many HBF's with him, Pittard and Krak. Plus Impey as a lockdown defender.

Our forward line in general is suffering from our midfield getting smashed.

If we start doing better at stoppages and stop being rushed into hacking it forward to 2 on 1 or the like and Hoff is still poor then talk about him. I don't mind him playing further up the ground to mark kick ins or rebounds out of defence, but let's stop with having him as a centre square mid. We need another big body there, but that's Moore or Ah Chee (hopefully one of them next week this Cornes gone).

Ken and co. dont much like Broadie it seems. No votes from them in 3 finals last year was unbelievable.

Ok they are prepared to drop a 1st 18 player, so when does Westhoff get held accountable for not kicking goals or being involved in more of them? He is the Mark Waugh of Port Adelaide, Waugh was in the Test side for his batting, but because he was a great fielder in any position and can bowl, he kept his spot despite his main role was to get runs and regularly didnt. Same with the Hoff. He should have kicked 15 goals by now, not 5, but because he goes down back and takes the marks you want him to take inside forward 50, not the defensive 50, he stays.
Harsh on Mark Waugh - one of Australia's best batsmen of all time - much better bat than Steve.

I think your Westhoff hulk rage is a bit misplaced. It's not like he's been playing as a stay at home key forward. He's been dropping back into defence playing through the middle and up forward. Perhaps it is time to settle him in one spot.
Westhoff hasnt been doing anything different to what he's been doing the last two seasons in his dropping back play. But he hasnt been producing up forward like the past. What's the point of him playing all over the place and not doing what his main role is?? That's why I used the Mark Waugh Test analogy ( ie not what he did in ODI's).

Look at his test record, not his ODI record. I used his test analogy as it doesnt matter how good he was or pretty he looked his average was just less than 42, because he didnt produce enough when it counted. If he was great he would have averaged 50+ like Ponting, Hayden, Border, Clarke and co. The others produced better results and better average who didnt look as good or have his talent, his brother, Langer, Martyn, Taylor, Kaitch, Boon etc.

Same with Westhoff. He looks good, but his main role is to kick goals or create opportunites for his small forwards to get goals as a result of his play. It aint happening.

Mark Waugh 20 test centuries... find a better analogy REH lol
From 128 test, when other guys were dropped and produced better results. What was his average? If he played as well as everyone said what should it have been? That's the whole point. Waugh didnt produce up to his potential, but kept getting picked because of his other skills, same with the Hoff.

Broadbent getting dropped is scapegoating at it's finest. We played 5 running half backs and our midfield was smashed. No wonder his production was down.

Hi Broady you've been playing well in at half back, but we've decided to pick 5 running half backs for some reason, so we're going to have to push you up the ground and if you don't perform there we're going to drop you instead of putting you back in your more natural position in some sort of reverse Salopek manoeuvre

Pick 14 after all.
The kid's a gun.
Reckon Amon will be too, beautiful kick.

how good is his kick? I don't think I'm being biased but sheesh, he is a beautiful kick - his stab kicks are like darts!

hope not, don't think Sam has the physical tools to be a worthwhile sub.

I'm just glad to see our best inside mid and best tall defender back in the side. The other selection decisions, for me, are more at the margin. If we lose on Sunday it won't be because of Gray's selection or the dropping of Broadbent. There'll be more serious reasons.

Broady could have been shifted to middle, wing, or even to forward line as a better option than some other under performers. Don't like it at all!!

not a fan of dropping Broady at all and don't see the point - he'll dominate back in the SANFL with his game style.

if you recall, he started season 2014 as a sub for round 1, maybe round 2 too, and that was all he needed to kick himself into gear.

40ish average in the era he started ain't bad..... everyone else cashed in on weak attacks since the naughties
But low 40's is not great. Plenty of his contemporaries ie 1990-2003 period averaged 45-49 that he was considered a lot better player than and then there were plenty of players who were great, and averaged 50+. After he almost got the nickname Olympics ie 5 0's he got 4 in a row in the Sri Lanka tour in 1992-93, he only after 3 tests of the next 114 had a career average of 44. Yet Dean Jones who scored the most test runs on that tour, took his average to 46.5 and was never picked to play Test cricket again.

Selectors favour players because they look good and they show them more faith. Waugh was saved, unlike Jones, Martyn because he extra strings to his bow. But that doesnt mean he didnt live up to expectations on his main job, making runs. That's what I'm saying about the Hoff. He stays in the side because he is versatile. But like Waugh he didnt reach the heights he should have in his main job, the Hoff isnt reaching expectations in his main job of kicking goals. Play him at CHB if he is such a good back man or on the wing as a tall wing man if he is such a good mid fielder.

unfortunately, I see Amon starting as sub again, can't see Gray being the sub player.

Gosh I hate the sub rule!
