I completely agree
Nice to see some original thinkers around here that won't pot players for nervous mistakes
His nervous mistakes are irrelevant. He is awfully slow, with a Queen Mary turning circle, with poor spatial awareness and for a big man shows no physical presence. 22 goals from 11 games in the VFL with his attributes at 26 is a far shy of anyone claiming an AFL.

This is not about potting a player. He is clearly good enough for VFL - he has put his best foot forward - credit to him.
It is a pot shot at our coach who persists with players who patently are not up to it.

We put 5 or more years into Mc Neil - for what — the worst conversion shot record in the VFL.

Do you really think we would not be overjoyed if they were up to the task?

Croft has played poorly enough to be dropped but no one would be outraged if we just played him because he is young and has elite qualities.

McNeil occasionally has kicked some goals only because none of his opponents give him any respect he gets lucky. That’s what Lewis will rely on too. But in reality that kind of commitment to mediocrity guarantees that real success becomes impossible.

So it’s not about taking pot shots it is about integrity of election and recruitment. It is about every spot being precious and earned on merit.

Croft's defensive accountability needs work
Lewis was very good with holding structure in the forward line and at no point let his man run off him
Kicked a nice goal and should have had two

Lots more to persist with
Croft is good too don't get me wrong just falls apart structurally at times and clearly nursing a dodgy shoulder

We've been spoilt with Darcy & Naughton (and maybe JUH)
You dont get to have too many of these players on your list.
There are many players of Will Lewis' calibre running around in the AFL.
He needs to convert the chances that come his way & keep the opposition defenders honest.

He was fantastic at that last Friday

He kicked 40 last year, not sure where you got the 22 from.

Time for the mid tier players to stand up and be counted - we get to see what the team is made of. Most of our stars missing and/or playing sore.

Dale, Treloar, Buku, Bramble, Kennedy, Sanders, West, Freijah, Willams, Davidson. These guys need to play out of their skin and make it happen

As a viewer I’m approaching this week and next week like the McCartney era and just keeping my eyes peeled for some green shoots of progression from the younger players.

Same. Keen to see Sellwood and Jaques keep progressing as the future of our backline. Sanders and Freijah. Would love Freijah to have another game like his last one against Sydney. Josh Dolan is due to have a breakout game. There's a good core of youth with high potential to be in our 2027 premiership team. Don't mind if we lose. Don't even mind if we get flogged. Just looking for one or two highlights from the kids.
