Looking forward to seeing West debuting as well as glad Ledwards held his spot.
I have pretty high hopes of Hedwards performing well also. He had a good taste earlier and honestly performed as well as if not better than others around him who held their spots. I hope he goes hard and plays his ring out to not allow the MC an easy option to drop in once someone else is "fit"

I hope he doesn't play on when he gets the ball in D50.
We need to slow the ball down & go sideways coming out of defence, even if there is an option down the field or in the corridor.

It is interesting that only JK seems to get “managed” when it comes to us? I know Nic did last season when we had a bunch of 5 day breaks but every other team “manages” their players more than we do. Would’ve thought it’d be perfect to use this excuse on underperforming senior players if we’re seemingly scared of hurting their egos

Poor Harry Edwards learnt that lesson…

You’re still going on about that?

Do you actually believe that if Edwards hadn’t played on, he’d have held his spot the following week?

So we now have selected a KPD that will defend one of their tall forwards. This will be an interesting change in defensive coaching. Hedwards to take Himmelberg or Frampton leaving Hurn to take Walker. Thankfully, that will allow Gov to float on his own pretending to pick up Rowe or McHenry when Elliot Yeo asks him "Hey Pointer, WTF are you picking up?"

Interesting half forward line for us in Jamie Cripps, Jack Darling, Dom Sheed. Based on reputations, very good line. Based on the last month, all three have used up their credits in the bank and are not going to threaten the Crows half back line of Brodie Smith, Nick Murray, Chayce Jones

Now for out interchange of Zac Langdon, Luke Edwards, Jack Petruccelle, Josh Rotham. The only player in this bunch I have good feelings about is Ledwards. I think Petruccelle has improved but this year has shown to me that both Langdon and Rotham are WAFL standard.

Thankfully the members received a lovely email from our CEO this week letting us know that we are backing in our team. How refreshing!

No matter what these issues and challenges are, let me stress that as a club we remain united behind our players, our coaches, our staff and with our members. Internally, we will galvanise and continue to build resilience.

So changes this week:

Out: Virgin Airlines

I get the frustration here with no major changes/no senior players dropped on poor form etc, to send a message.
But on the flipside playing much the same team does help synergy or team chemistry (we hope)
Also bringing in West and Ledwards is a nod in the right direction, including playing an extra mid, which arguably should've been done last week in the wet?

Yet reading the latest articles on WCE site, the same lines or quotes are trotted out from players and coach - need to try harder, need to learn from that, need to get better, all that tired old baloney we've been listening to for 2 seasons after every loss.
But lets park that rusty bus, this is Simmo's latest barnstorming idea -
“Last week we looked at the way we went about things. We’d been doing the same thing for a long period of time, so we need to evolve,” Simpson said.
Wow, I mean WOW, really...that took a long time to arrive at that already widely known fact!!?

and the rest...
“An opportunity presents itself in the next five or six weeks that we can explore some things. But if you do it every week then it gets confusing.

“We did a couple of things last week that were minor. We’ll continue to work on those things, not try and change and reinvent the wheel every week.."

If nothing else will enjoy watching West, Ledwards +Hedwards.
Who knows maybe Darling will break out..or Ryan..or Petrol..or Shuey...or..West....or...
Yep, gettin' a bit jaded here...need a win!

Who would know the way the selectors are going.?
HEdwards got replaced because Gov has - with good reason - seniority at the selection table. It's very simple.

A lot has changed in three weeks and I do believe Gov (and one or two other senior players) should have had a rocket put up him, but I'm not shocked that he has been retained.

Rightly or wrongly, Simmo has shown over the years he is quite the risk-averse coach and he has thrown his lot in with guys that he believes can turn things around.

So just to be clear, in this alternate universe of yours Edwards decides not to play on but goes back on his mark, allowing Richmond to flood back —> we don’t get the ball to Kennedy for the winning goal —> Richmond hold onto their lead —> they pass us on the ladder and leave us clinging to eighth spot —> somehow that makes it less likely that the match committee decides to rush McGovern back into the side in place of Edwards?

Is that the theory?

I am struggling to see the point of Petrucelle’s selection. If he provided run, kicked goals or tackled and pressured opponents l could see why he was picked instead of Williams as a second ruck but he does none of these things. At least Williams can offer a reasonable ruck contest and take the occasional pack mark to influence the game.

I have to disagree. While he's not perfect, Petch is continuing to develop quite well. He's contributed 14.3 this year, an impressive conversion rate, and his disposal average is rising (albeit slowly, sure). There's a lot to work with there and he's still only 22.

I agree that he needs to continue working on his pressure and tackling. The run element I think is largely game plan related. Would I drop him for these reasons? Heck no. Needs to be persevered with.

Like CC, I disagree here.
Progressing slowly but progressing. Which is better than regressing, which is what a lot of our guys have been doing.

Plus, with Cameron, Rioli, Jones and Winder to name a few not available, there isn't a lot of position pressure. Hence why no heat on Cripps.

I agree that he is improving but he must be coming off a low base. He is averaging 10.6 disposals per game, 1.8 tackles and 1.2 goals. His goal accuracy is probably inflated by shots that didn’t score or ones running point blank into goal. Playing Ryan, Cripps, Langdon and Petch - none of whom have set the world on fire this year apart from the occasional game - means we go with this sad tactic of playing Allen in the ruck which hasn’t worked at all this year, and was never going to work. I don’t understand why they keep reverting to it. They then change their mind and give Vardy or Williams a few games as if they are unsure themselves.

Are we playing players to develop them, trying to win or both? I suppose the answer would be the third. My issue is that playing Oscar Allen in the ruck just irks me and is a tactic that is going nowhere, even backwards and which the MC themselves are not convinced about. If a support ruck forward such as Williams is to play then someone has to come out of the team. Petch is one of the prime candidates, do we gain more by playing him or Williams is the issue. I am not convinced that he contributes enough to be retained despite his development.

Agree that Petch has come on a bit this year. Thought he was done and it would never click, but he’s only 21/22, and exposure to senior footy is for the best.

Petch is maybe suffering from being the devil we know at the moment, which isn’t what fans want when the side is underperforming. He’s not been great lately, but showed his career best footy early in the year. If he wasn’t in, he’d be the exact type we’d want in - young, untapped potential, “the season is wasted anyway so let’s get a look at these kids” type.

I don’t see any benefit in playing someone like Hutch or a healthy Ah Chee in place of Petch. Assume the season is gone from a meaningful finals campaign sense - those guys won’t help the Eagles in one or two years, Petch might. Worth persisting, at least for clarity’s sake.

I can be swayed that maybe we expose Bailey Williams to more footy instead, though I don’t like carrying two ruckmen, but if the option is Vardy or Petch it’s a no brainer to me who it’s more worth hoping catches fire.
