"We're going have to find something different that might excite a few people and might be something people haven't seen before"

Quote from Simmo about the ruck situation.
B
Simmo is going to go for a mobile ruck division , I expect Yeo , Brown and McGovern will form a four player ruck division with Lycett .
This must be called an "elephant march" format! What a good idea.

Why not just play Gov on Jenkins and have him follow Jenkins into the ruck? Jenkins is our most dangerous tall inside 50 ATM despite the perception that he only gets cheap ones out the back.
Sauce isn't in great form(Lobbe beat him despite the stats) so I wouldn't worry about double teaming him or bringing in another ruckman.
You would be better off brining in outside run and exploit the possibility of us being down Smith and Sloan.

Anyway, Hope we turn up and it is a good hitout for both teams before finals. Massive Danger game for us.
Not the worst idea to have gov follow Jenkins into the ruck but I don't like the idea of gov picking him up - Jenkins runs too hard and I have my reservations McGovern will keep up

I wasn't having a crack at Jenkins for "cheap" goals as he works awfully hard pushing up the ground and then back not to give him credit for such hard running. He's not getting seagull goals letting his opponent run off him and waiting for a turnover so he's by himself when the ball comes back. It's pure work rate

Lol, sorry I wasn't trying to insinuate that you were having a crack. A lot of people seem to view Jenkins in this way, crows fans included. Nice to see that you actually watch what he does.

Who would you match Gov on? ID love to see the brothers go head to head, but I think your McGovern is to important to your structure to have him play on ours. Is Tex his natural and most likely matchup?

McGovern is most likely for walker but he often zones off and tries to read the ball coming in. He killed hawthorn on Friday by marking the high ball coming on and the Hawks didn't make him accountable

It's for this reason that I wouldn't object to him not spending all his time in defence as you guys don't seem to kick the ball in high all that often and I think your forwards could run him around a bit to expose his tendency to zone off

Agreed. He smashed it on Friday night. Herein lies my biggest fear, that if your midfield can shutdown our running game like Port did and like the Cats have twice this year then we go into Bombing it long mode, to which we won't have any answer to McGovern if he's on. He did to the Hawks what Enright has done to us. Lucky for us last night that Port don't have such a player.

Anyway, I'll get out of here.

Cheers and besides next week, good luck for the rest of the year.

Barrass in is a must if he's fit, that Adelaide forward line looms large.

Do we play Nelson on Betts after he did a pretty good job on Cyril?

Keep posting if you want, we like opposition perspectives.

He really isn't.
No? Well, why the F*** did we get him then? On a multi-year deal too. Not having a go, because as I've said, I don't know much about him. What has changed since October last year? What possible reason would we have picked him up for if he is not able to fill in for an injured ruckman?

1. Eddie Betts kicked 5 goals vs us in R12. We need to put a big quick defender on him. Put Brown on Betts as Brown can play vs tall or small fowards.
2. We need to play tighter zone vs Adelaide and should not be just thinking of attack vs Don Pyke‘s style in Adelaide. They scored more in 2016 than the Eagles.
3. Simple. Play hard will win.
Who played on Rioli for the Hawks - obviously did a credible job as didn't notice Rioli much and certainly did not set the world on fire like he normally does! Whoever it was play him on Betts.

From what I've heard is that he rucks body to body but doesn't do much else! He is more of a lumbering type ruckman.

When Mackenzie went down at the beginning of last season, we all went into meltdown thinking that our season was already done. The coaches then revolutionised our defence and we made it to a gf. Who knows, maybe they might do the same with our ruck department, especially with some of things that Simmo said yesterday.
Difference is the finals start after this week.....

I hope we don't go back to having a Brown-Lycett ruck combo. I think Giles offers more as a fwd-ruck than Brown does.

Can't do that, it was Nelson so he'll probably get dropped this week if the last few games he's played are anything to go by

Ok. So presumably this has been his style over the last 10-odd years in the league? Clearly we aren't keen on that Style of ruckman, so why bother getting him? Were we hoping that suddenly he would become more mobile? What is it that we saw in him that presented as a viable third-string ruck?

Fairly sure he was brought in to play first ruck if both Lycett and Nic Nat went down. Why the hell they didn't also bring in a younger more mobile guy on the rookie list as well is one of the dumber things we did (or didn't do) last off-season

Don't really rate Nelson as highly as many on here. Give the Badger a crack on Teddy Betts.. Badger is quicker.
I might just close my eyes at the centre bounce..

Do we dump the Zone-Web? Pyke will be all over our strategy.. I sat there last year at that 50 to zero point 1st Q smashing we copped. They tore the web a new one thru and over it. Least there is no Dangerfield this time.. And they had some arsey luck along with some bad mistakes from us.

Also, worst bit bout this week assuming we can beat Crows, is we have to go for:
- Collingwood to beat Hawks and
- Norf to beat Giants
(vomits)

And we get 4th spot and prob play Sydney in Sydney... If Richmond can beat Swans we get Geelong in Geelong.. prob better chance than Sydney.
got no probs going for Richmond!!

And, the killer - we have to listen to that stupid F-wart Rooshitoe on the coverage again? ...

Reckon Lycett + chopouts will be order of the day. A lot of chopouts. Bit like Geelong were doing last year.

We've actually got quite a few players capable of some good third-man-ups. Reckon we could get quite a lot from Yeo, Shep, Darling, Wellingham and Barrass in a stoppage situation. It's honestly a bit surprising that we didn't try more of this when Nic was absent earlier in the year.

That said, I reckon that Brown could also be a somewhat decent foil for Jenkins if he followed him around all game.

In : Mckenzie, Barrass
Out : Natanui and Nelson

Darling and McGovern to pinch hit the ruck,, when Darling goes in there Schofield to go forward.
Got to back Mckenzie in, not been great this year but we all know he is a good player.

We can't under any circumstances end up with only one tall forward if Darling does some ruck work.
We must be mobile around the ground and have a ball winner and link player as a ruckman, Giles is not that.

Wellingham - McGovern - Barrass
Shepherd- Mckenzie - Hurn
Gaff - Priddis- Jetta
Cripps - Darling - Masten
Lecras - Kennedy - Yeo

Lycett - Shuey - Sheed

I/c Schofield - Butler - Hutchings - Hill

Interesting comment. If Pyke is such a genius why wasn't he able to do anything about that 50 point to nothing quarter considering he was still on our coaching team in that game?

Probably because he was sitting on a chair in the coaching box, bad quarters happen in footy and only the players can really address it. I reckon all the coaches tried something but it was just a bad 30 minutes.

So was it 'just a bad quarter' or Worsfold and his men 'tore through the web'?

I was just responding to the bit about how Pyke is going to tear through the web and I did that because I'm sick of hearing about the genius that is Don Pyke.

It seems like depending on what question I ask it was either the oppo coaches tearing their way through the web, or just a bad quarter of footy.
