Seems to be the case as burgess said polec was "going through some rehab and management of an ankle issue". In regards to Gray and someone said he trained last Wednesday where did you hear that? Burgess said yesterday that gray wont train till thursday however is "pain free".

#porkies #foxing

I heard Ken say he trained Wednesday.

I think "nick" and "kick" to the calf have been confused. I think if its a kick (and therefore a cork) he will be fine. If a nick (a tear), i think he will miss.
Clearly it was Nicks said he had a kick.

We aren't unfit - not even close, however we do have key players banged up, and regardless of your fitness base, when players are carrying niggles, the run wont quite be there.
Two of our most important 'running' players in the past have been White and Polec - both are restricted with ankle type injuries. Its also clear Hartlett is carrying something, and there may be a couple others.

Injuries are a result of the increased load. The training load of our team is the most it has ever been. There is a fine line between being at your peak and being injured and this year the team has chosen to get closer to the line. Some players respond differently and thrive. Others take time. Others might need more maintenance. The entire team is only getting their trademark run as we get more games underneath our belt. I feel that this investment will start to pay off. The last couple of years we started well but I think that we are doing things differently this year because we want to be at our best at the end of the year.

Much of what you say is probably right, ie we are pushing closer to that line, and it may have an overall effect (ie some of the players have looked a little flat to start the year).

However most of our current injuries to me don't seem to be training load related.

- Rolled ankles (White/Polec)/corkies (Gray)/dislocated wrist (Wines)/knee cleanouts (Wingard) are examples.

There's a argument that any groin related stuff Hartlett is carrying could be related, but probably not his upper body issue.

I reckon our slow start has been in part to a disjointed pre-season with a few critical players injured, or unable to play, couple up with us playing a couple pretty good sides to start the year.

Hartlett had a groin issue in the pre season and looked short of match fitness for the first two rounds, but has looked pretty good and moved freely the past 2 weeks. He certainly doesn't appear to be carrying anything now.

He could hadly raise a walk in the last quarter running after a bloke near the interchange...

Ankles are extensions of the entire limb so fatigue leads to a greater incidence of all types of injuries. The knee is a joint that takes the load between the foot and the hip. We have increased the training loads so every type of injury increases because the risk of everything goes up. For a lot of the senior players this is it though. They are close to their peak capacity. The boys are in new territory as far as their training loads are concerned. I am merely reminding everybody of what our club has been telling us and making some sort of conjecture that it will have an effect on the team.

Not all injuries are related to fatigue, repetitive strain or over use syndrome but our team would not have disjointed preseason because they do a lot of training for the injured players. This team has trained hard over the preseason and I bet you that people will wake up to the fact that we will be fitter this year because we have a greater fitness base.

My guess is that the fittest team in the competition will take fitness to a new level but it is being managed likie an interchange bench. Every player will rotate. We can rest boak, Ebert, Hartlett, Kornes, Broadbent, Wines, Lobbe, Ryder, Trengove, Bobby, Jonas, Wingard all at different times.

I think that we want to take this gut running thing to a new level. We are not going to flirt with our form but be realistic and rotate players because we have the depth to cover them.

This is our assault on the flag and we have to be smart.

I certainly don't disagree with that, its spot on IMO.

Ditto Boak & his hip, he looked back to his dangerous AA best on the weekend & I don't think it was just because he won the battle against Langford.

Agree there as well. I have seen Sydney start slow in the past and look a million bucks three weeks later. It as hard to guage why and when your team peaks but as the year goes on we will get stronger.

did anyone notice how ineffectual Tex Walker was to the Dogs game plan? let alone, how slow he looked?

quick ball movement will cause the Crows problems on the weekend, if they allow us to that is - Walsh is smart so suspect his game day strategy will involve trying to slow the game down but quick ball movement will disrupt any zones they put in place.

Thompson, Jacobs, Walker et al really struggled against the up tempo game the dogs bought with them. Thommo may have got near on 40 possessions however they weren't game changing possessions and suspect his opponent played a critical part in the Dogs transition from turnovers via his pace.

In any case, we need to start on the front foot.

Interesting to see how Walsh coaches against us in the season proper considering he knows our game plan inside out. If it's a Sydney esk clog fest rather than the free running crows of the first few rounds it will be pretty telling I think. That seems to be the best tactic to beat us. Would love to see fast footy played by the crows since I think we will do it better than them and get across the line. That said, we couldn't beat them at that game in the pre-season match.

Well said.

We play fast and freewheeling we will slaughter them

Walsh will be looking to emulate Sydney and just straight up flood.

If they get into a shootout with us, we will monster them, and they know it.

The way to beat us is to flood. To beat them, we need to win clearances and run the ball out of defence.

Walsh doesn't believe in tagging is that right?
