Mitchell was exactly as he always is. When we were playing well he slotted in as a cog in that machine, but when we were struggling he really didn't offer a lot.

That said, he didn't automatically drop himself. He played pretty much to the level you'd expect from him and put in some really, really good efforts. His kicking is still a bit hit and miss, but his vision and handball has improved markedly. He and Ah Chee are probably the first two out if Gray returns, but I certainly wont be complaining if he stays in.

Has been limping heavily after matches and quarter breaks. No where near 100%, it would be his knee.

I'm sure I heard he got a corky in the 2nd quarter which made it difficult for him to run out the game. He was absolutely at his best in the first quarter.

What a ridiculous luxury to have a Rolls Royce small forward who, when you lose 2 out of your best 3 midfielders, can be thrown in the guts at the start of a game against the best team in the league and pretty well run the show as we dominate the first quarter. He is just a phenomenal football player. We've only seen glimpses of how good he'll be long term.

Carr said scans on Gray's calf showed a 'tiny nick', no way he plays the showdown. Probably be out for 2 more I'd guess.
Thats interesting cos Kern said in the presser last night it was a corkie and that they didnt want to risk it bleeding anymore and turning into a strain..

We are being bullshitted with injuries. . Gray will be out for a month probably

Biased opinion -
Out - whoever
In - S. Gray

I wanna see him take another great Mark of the Year[Week] against the Cows...

Something must be wrong with me but I though Mitchell was decent :drunk:

Feel bad for Ah Chee but I think he will go straight out for Gray if fit.

If Gray isn't fit then no changes.

Mitchell sub pls
Did you have much to drink last night, ha ha. He wasn't bad but his disposal is still to poor for AFL footy.

whats with the Angus hate?

THE GUYS A ******* DUD THATS WHAT!!!!!!
Poor call he was great against North last week, nearly got us through a prelim last year & was borderline AA in 2013, if I'm picking between him & Neade it's a pretty easy decision.

On his day he's one of the best lockdown forwards in the comp, didn't notice Suckling much last night but everyone always focuses on his 'flopping'.

Kudos on the well researched, thought out post. I disagree with your sentiment. Good day sir.

Arch would be stiff to be dropped, but as the sub he has only played about 40 mins of footy in 2 weeks, next week he will be starting for either the Power or the Maggies.

Yep agree , monfries to play negating role on smith and Cornes on Sloane.

I'm fairly keen to keep ahchee in as we need him in the centre. He has been quite good at the clearances in the patches I've seen, although port would no more about how ready he is and if he could sustain that for a full game.

I would keep Mitchell in. So it's hard who to drop. Agree Ild probably rest Polec if it would help. This would be a great game to bring in Moore in the middle , if only the maggot sanfl hadn't given him 3 games for something the ump didn't even notice

By the way , on that did anyone else see a hawk player run into an umpire and knock him down? I was straight outta my chair and screamed 'is he gonna get 3 weeks for that!' My gf told me to sit down lol.
Yep. Pretty sure it was Lewis

Mitchell or Ah Chee will come out for Robbie Gray. Really dont need any other changes unless forced.

Yeah pretty simple i reckon. IN Gray out Ahchee unless they spring an injury on us again like gray.

Ebo head to head with Sloane, not a tight tag still winning his own ball like he did against hodge last night was pretty loose. Has the tank and speed i reckon
Cornes to Thompson
I don't know where kerridge is at but if he somehow plays he'll probably go to boak

I'm pretty sure it was Chad, Youngy and Mitchell who had about 8 or 9 score involvements each in game high figures. #dropmitchell

As I said earlier, that's what Mitchell does. When we're finding the footy, he runs like the wind and stretches defences.

When we're not, he's basically doing what David Rodan used to do when he wasn't selling candy. Nothing.

I know it's probably his role, so i'm not going to be too hard on him, but he's the 21st player picked at the moment. I wouldn't drop him this week anyway, as I think Arch is the more obvious one to go out for Gray.

Depends what we want, I guess. He's a great link player and showed some nous in setting up offensive play last night. Ah Chee would be better for more in the clearance brigade but we're essentially getting our best clearance mid back in Gray (if he does get up for the game), not to mentioned the addition of Youngy and the move of Chad to midfield has seen us way better in the dept.

If you asked anyone what Mitchell did last night, they'd probably say a long set shot in the second quarter and a nice contested mark in the 3rd. Some of the stuff was shocking, although he was not alone. At one point he had the ball put over a Hawthorn defender to him, he had Cornes clear over another defender and then Cornes could have got it inside 50. Instead he kicked it into the centre and there were 2 Hawthorn players and not one Port player. Can't remember if that was a Hawthorn score but if it wasn't then it was only due to the excellence of our defence and a good bit of luck.

The most notable thing he did for me was that lightning handball receive from Ebert straight back to Polec for Polec's goal from 50 in the 2nd.

His handball is reasonably good and his vision is definitely improved. He just needs to make sure of his kicks. He can definitely contribute and I think we saw a lot of good efforts from him last night.

I liked the perfectly weighted pass to Schulz in the south-eastern pocket.

There was some guy behind me in the second half that kept on rubbishing Mitchell from start to finish. When he took that mark in the forward 50 I soooo wanted him to kick the goal to shut him up, but of course he missed.

Nothing wrong with Kane's game. He's not going to be a superstar but for what he is - a depth player when Wines and Gray are out - he's fine. He just needs to know his limitations.

This used to be the same with Chaplin when we were going through our bad years. The thing about it was that these blokes were only rubbishing him because the ball was always going over his head. He was at the time the good defender who had been a high draft pick. Most times he got s*** for not "making an effort" although what effort he was meant to make when the ball was five feet over his head I was not sure about.
