Sam Jacobs is a big and critical part of this stat..

People are talking about our edge in terms of tall forwards but dont underestimate the impact having Lobbster and Ryder smashing into their one man band will have on those clearance numbers..

i mean if Jenkins gets much if any time in the ruck then

If Jenkins gets any time on the PARK it's a massive win

It is inconceivable that we are unfit when you consider that this year was one of our toughest preseasons. We usually go into the first few rounds close to our first peak and fall away near the middle of the year only to peak again near the finals. It looks like this year we have changed things around. We have gone into the season with higher intensity training under our belts, we haven't tapered our training going into the season and we look set to rotate the players more to manage them through the season.

Other teams think that the way we play is suicide and there is no way we can play like that all year. I've got news for them. We haven't even hit our straps and Burgess looks set to regularly rotate every player so that the whole team doesn't fall into a heap all at once.

Smiled at the observation made by the 7 commentary team as the Bulldogs dismantled Adelaide about how the crows couldn't handle the pressure the bulldogs brought and 'we saw last night about Port's pressure'. That's one change we mustn't make.

The Crows look susceptible to pace.. Guys like Jacobs, Thompson, Wright etc were exposed at times.. Whilst pace is an asset of our team rather than a core strategy, I think we can put them under pressure early.. Our tall forward line will probably force a change or two at their selection table I would have thought?

If we can just win this game, get out of this first month of hell 3-2, then we're set up nicely with West Coast, Brisbane, Richmond, Melbourne, Bulldogs, Geelong and Carlton to come before the bye. We should win almost all of those games.

yep agree.. although, if we do win this week, I hold a fear that subconsciously the boys might drop a notch mentally and lose a winnable contest after the showdown due to the brutality of the first 5 games (first 4 in particular!)..

Also did anybody notice the bullies getting in behind their press more than a few times for goals based on that fast ball movement!

They havent got any other talls options Cheney if he does play is a gamble and he wont solve their problems

Mattrick Rydobbe is gonna tear em apart....

You can't drop Monfries.

He plays such an important role in the defensive movement of the zone. He is more often than not the one who blocks the switch exit. Works tirelessly hard, is tough and experienced and on his day can kick a bag.

People need to stop thinking he's a Gunstan type forward and start thinking he's a Puopolo type forward.
Couldn't have said it any better myself. The one thing I noticed in the Sydney game and now this past game is how bloody hard Gus was working. Was no where near best player but his continuous efforts, getting the ball to ground in 2 on 1 contests, sprinting to the next player to apply pressure, work rate pushing up to half back and then getting back to the forward line. He gives his absolute best every game and it's great for the whole team.

Me too.
We also know from previous years that the Melbourne, Essendon and Bulldogs fixtures in particular will challenge us more than people expect.

I'm happy with all of this, as long as he keeps his feet and doesn't throw himself around playing for frees. There are 2-3 occasions in most matches, where Gus will give up the favourable position in a contest (aerial or ground level), by going to ground. Sometimes it is to draw the free, other times it is to compensate a bit for lack of pace. He has got to move away from doing this.

No way is Robbie Gray playing this week. Josh Carr said in a radio interview on Sunday that he had a small 'nick' in his calf. I assume by nick he means tear.

Very good points. I feel with the free kicks that a majority of the time they are there but becaus of his reputation of milking it more than what it is really hurts him and end up going unrewarded.

Ken said on Triple M on Sunday that he took a kick to the calf late against North. So we'll see, could have misheard, sounds similar.

Watching the Bulldogs' small forwards dominate today, I'd actually love to see Neade come in for another chance. Especially with Krak in the side, like last year, he could help change his season around.
Stringer was the one who truly dominated in their attack, Walsh made the mistake of not playing Talia on him instead of Boyd.

I would expect Ryder/Lobbe to be the focal points & get Schulz into the game when Talia has to leave his man to help out Hartigan, if we've got enough control in the midfield Westhoff could go berserk if moved forward to further stretch their backline.

Maybe I'm being naive but surely the club wouldn't say through multiple channels that Robbie just had a corky in his calf if it was more.

Would we really bother lying like that?

Yes.

Angus has yet to realise the questionable frees you get as a 'Big four' club player are not the frees you will get playing for Port. He's been with us long enough now to know our players don't get kissed on the dick.

Yeah even if he did have a slight tear in his calf I don't think Carr would say as much on 5CC, Whome might've misheard nick instead of kick to the calf which is what I could've sworn I heard.

If he really only copped a corky there's no way he'll miss out on the showdown given we took the punt on Lobbe against the Hawks.

I think "nick" and "kick" to the calf have been confused. I think if its a kick (and therefore a cork) he will be fine. If a nick (a tear), i think he will miss.

We aren't unfit - not even close, however we do have key players banged up, and regardless of your fitness base, when players are carrying niggles, the run wont quite be there.
Two of our most important 'running' players in the past have been White and Polec - both are restricted with ankle type injuries. Its also clear Hartlett is carrying something, and there may be a couple others.

Good to see the tin foil hat brigade out in force re Robbie's calf injury.
According to Ken at the post match he trained last Wednesday but they decided not to risk him against Hawthorn. It's definitely a corky, and they're expecting him to play this week, provided he gets through training, like any other player coming back from an injury.

Agreed mate. If it was a nick there is no way in hell he would have been training last Wednesday. Robbie will play, Ah Chee will miss out unfortunately.

as above if there was any sign of any sort of nick he wouldnt be doing any training. simple!
White and polec are the two now. ah chee could be saved again at the 13th hour

Polec and White wouldn't be playing now if their injuries were the type where more game time would cause them more damage. I reckon they'll both keep playing.

Seems to be the case as burgess said polec was "going through some rehab and management of an ankle issue". In regards to Gray and someone said he trained last Wednesday where did you hear that? Burgess said yesterday that gray wont train till thursday however is "pain free".
