Walsh will be looking to emulate Sydney and just straight up flood.

If they get into a shootout with us, we will monster them, and they know it.

The way to beat us is to flood. To beat them, we need to win clearances and run the ball out of defence.
Win clearances, quick forward entries blah blah I don't think we were playing well enough against Sydney in general play to negate the flood but I also don't think Adelaide have Sydney's expertise to pull off the flood to great benefit.

Its not the traditional 'flood' (high numbers inside our F50) we really struggle with. Its the 'flooding' around stoppages that gets us into trouble. Sydney especially are masters of it. They use numbers to negate stoppages until they get the break and then use the ball really well going into their open f50. It makes it hard for us to use our rebound or slingshot footy. Not sure the crows are at Sydney's or Freo's level yet.

Will be interesting to see who wins the 'ground ball'. The one that does will go a long way to winning altho if its relatively even I'd suggest our outside runners may be more effective than theirs.

He could hadly raise a walk in the last quarter running after a bloke near the interchange...

He was totally spent. Sad to see in a way but he wasn't alone. We ran ourselves into the ground but held on for the win.

"Ground Ball"........sounds like another terminology to confuse old people.
I liked it a lot better when all you had to do was to kick more goals than the other side and if you got behind you cleaned up some of there good players and you be back in front again.

Ground ball is a baseball term isn't it?
I hadn't heard of this in Footy before until Adelaide coach invented it.

It's a term he took from Port...but also a very obvious one tbh.

Are you Graham Cornes?

I can only assume he's talking about contested ball in dispute. If his team has an issue winning the ball as it tumbles away end over end, that's the least of his worries.

Hammer was a slight concern but as mentioned, he wasn't pulling up limping too bad or grabbing at his upper leg after a run/chase. After his poor attempt to beat his player to the ball on the wing, he came off for around 2 minutes, then went back on into the midfield and put in another big effort. Fitness freaks, but still human.

Its nothing new, I've heard many a coach refer to the three phases of a game of footy:
  • When you have the ball;
  • When the opposition has the ball; and
  • When neither of you have the ball (in dispute)
This ground ball stuff is just Phils word for a stat most clubs would look at closely, and its basically looking at what percentage of the third category above you are winning. I'm not sure why they dont just refer to it as ball in dispute.
Of the three categories its probably the one most dictated by 'effort' hence the significant of the stat. Its generally also easier to win a disputed ball than to take the ball off of the opposition.

If the Crows and Phil want to suggest they invented disputed ball and call it ground ball, good luck to them. I hope its a media beat up and not them coming out every 5 minutes and talking about "ground ball"

When Bobby said that that terms like groundball were already in use at Port Adelaide the Fertiliser made it sound like Walsh left those sayings as a legacy

If a player gets most of the ground ball for their side are they having a groundhog day?

Phil? Hey, Phil? Phil! Phil Walsh? Phil Walsh, I thought that was you!

Ken seems a little concerned with Polec. Amon gets player of the week. ( maybe Sam Gray stiff ) Is Amon being set up to debut?
I think Amon needs to be BOG or close to it, in order to get called up. I don't think he has done enough yet.

His disposal is elite. No Stewart after the Logan clash and Moore rubbed out, so if Polly is struggling then Karl is a chance.
Amon might really shine when surrounded by quality footballers. He is also pretty quick.
Sloane and some others looked slow and sore towards the end of their game and a fleet footed elite kicking hungry Amon might be the go

Ground ball = hard ball gets? What's so confusing about that?

The one player i want to see get a game in our afl side is paul stewart. Probably wont happen this week because of his concussion but gee at 27 he should be playing his best footy. Good size at 191 and has been tearing the sanfl to shreads. Might not be as exciting or have as much fan fare as a possible debutant in amon or even guys like butcher, hes one of those guys on the cusp of selection but is kind of still in the background and goes relativly unnoticed. Everyone pushes for the likes of amon and butcher to get into the team but you cant forget what paul offers to the team

He isnt just some player who racks up 7 possies or under as a sub like most players do. He is wellcapable of playing a full game. You throw him back he provides shutdown and rebound. You throw him forward he is capable of kicking bags. You throw him into the midfield his size and speed allows him to compete against the best. He deserves a mention and a game
