I'd try Impey as a forward, can take Monfries spot. He's more talented
Don't quite know why, but Monfries is not appreciated enough on this board.

Perhaps we find out tomorrow as he is bound to spend time on Betts.
:thumbsu:

Betts has beaten Impey in the past but with experience and smarts rather than speed.
Betts V Krakouer will be one to watch and probably worth the cost of a ticket on its own.

Mitchell wont be dropped - doing the job asked of him
I was as big a skeptic of Mitchell's spot in our side as anyone but he does so much 4 qtr gut running probably more than anyone in our side which is why he keeps his spot in the best 22 & on the field.

Parkin on AFL teams showed footage of a couple of end to end runs where he wasn't used but essentially was part of 3-4 that lapped their Hawthorn opponents, an 80m run where he would've waltzed in to an open goal if it wasn't for a crazy shot on the boundary that went through.

If he can turn that elite work rate into improving his decision making & polishing up his skills he could become a decent enough 21-25 player, would be good to know his gps numbers just to see what Ken & co know about him that we don't.

Yes I'm not a fan and wasn't last year either. I think he wastes too many opportunities that cost the team on the rebound. I am rarely confident of something positive happening when he is hunting the ball. In contrast, there are quite a few players who I feel confident will either win the ball or diffuse the situation most of the time. Monfries has plenty of fans on this board though.

Impey is till young and has huge upside. But I rate Krakouer above Impey, especially given his elite foot skills. It has been mentioned on the board before, but Krakouer this year has been a massive free bonus - and I cant help but feel that his story will continue this year and be a huge component to our success.

Yep agree. Massive fan of Impey but Krak has been a Sydney NSW academy type bonus.

I can just see it as one of the dream come true stories for Krakouer should he be lucky enough to be in a premiership winning team..... Could HE...??

Imagine if we had Liam Jarrah....:( He was a one diamond that went to coal...... its a real shame.

Cos his reputation exceeds his ability. He constantly plays for frees, he is slow, and rarely takes marks in a contested situation. He also can't be trusted with his set shot, which has a range of 40m.

On the flip side, he always gives 100% and he is a great leader, but I think we need more from a player to become a premiership team.

I think you're getting ability mixed up with form.

On form, he's comfortably best 22.

Then he hasn't been in form since 2013. Back then I was a fan, last year my patience grew thin. This year I think he has been overtaken

Do you persist with an out of form player who is guaranteed best 22, or do you give his job to someone who might be playing better, but whose best isn't as good yet?

I'd suggest at this point of the season, we try to play Monfries into form. If we're getting to the serious stuff and he's still not quite there, pick a player who is performing better.

If we get him on song, a fit and firing Monfries is comfortably a better option than anyone playing in the SANFL for us.

Yep a fit and firing Monfries is very good for the team. But once again, he isn't firing. How long is he persisted with? Hopefully either he comes good, or gets dropped when impey is ready.

In round 5, we persist with him.

Remember he did kick 2.3 against North and gather 26 touches and 10 marks against Sydney. He's out of form but he's contributing for the most part.

Impey is a shutdown small defender and should be being used that way.

I think a lot of people only look offensive part of his game and forget he is actually a very good defensive forward who has a job to do on a defender to stop them running it out of defence.
I haven't seen his direct opponents numbers but I think they would be down.
I would say, if he wasn't doing his job defensively he probably wouldn't be in the team.

Agree. He is very good defensively. But impey too is great defensively. Impey played as a Jnr forward and in defence.

If Monfries could find 2013 form again, then he is a definite walk up starter in my team. And I agree with your points, but I've just lost patience and I'm fearful that his best footy is behind him
