Redden played angrier than I've ever seen him play. So much niggling and wrestling and solid tackles.

Not sure what provoked that but I liked the fight he showed.
Yanking Tex's ear was the highlight of Reddo's career

The point is that even when people talk about "Yeo going H2H", you are simply not going to have two midfielders play on each other for the whole game. When we come up against a gun midfielder, we're going to have different guys go to them at different stages. Sometime we'll back Yeo to beat them straight up. That's well and good. But sometimes we'll prefer to release Yeo and have a more dedicated stopper go to the opposition gun. Sometimes we'll need to find a match-up in D50. Reducing it to Yeo H2H doesn't describe the reality.
Yes yes,.You have flogged this horse soundly. It is well understood. What doesnt happen when they send their best mid to the goal square is we put Hutch on them. We let our backs take care of business at that end of the ground.

Yeo H2H!

They are self flagellating at world record pace over on the Crows board.

Someone said earlier they have Eagles 2017 vibrations in their auras. I concur.

They they need to reset over the summer, pick their quality youth and put a few of the old timers/slow pokes out to pasture. They have got a good, talented list on paper so I think they just need a few tweaks and the players to buy back in 100%

Hopefully they do the righty by us and roll over on the weekend though!

Cameron for me

There comes a time when "pressure acts" just doesnt cut it

fair enough, neither here or there between either of them. Both get the ball very little. Cameron for me is more of a natural small forward though.
I actually don't know what we are trying to develop with Petch? Is he going to be an outside mid? Small forward?
Anyway whichever one they go with will have little impact on how we go.

I quite liked his role on the weekend at times.

Because of his speed, he creates seperation and becomes an easy hit up for a short kick on the wings, a pressure release valve for want of a better word. As his tank increases we'll be able to use him as a get out more and more

Both are still young and still learning. Petch for me just is not in the right spots as a small forward but like i said he is still learning.
He is better up the ground where he finds space as you said, but to play up the ground you need to be able to find the ball more and he is not there yet.
Anyway just opinions and the club seems to be doing well so its all good.

Definitely. Can see the arguments for both

I thought Petch was good vs Carlton.

Did a lot of running work in the Masten vein. Pushing hard to provide a switch option, even if not always used. This kind of run often seems to open up the corridor for someone like Shep to take a mark in a very dangerous position, centrally around the back of the square. Having all three options, left flank, centre or right flank open to attack into half forward really puts the opposition under pressure with viable marking options at each point with a Jake/Jack/JJK/Oallen mix and our smalls buzzing around at good pace.

Hutch on Martin in the goal square? Certainly sends a shiver through the sphincter!!

Pet is just playing Venables role from last year but is kicking more goals.

ATM i would have him over Cameron just because he offers something a bit different with his pace. Cameron will be awesome in due time and glad we have been able to get some games into him early but once Cripps is back he will offer that tackling pressure that Cameron offers.

Yeo played one of his best games for the year, it was hardly a "burden" for him, he lives for the challenge.
The point is that asking Yeo to play as a partial stopper has the potential to reduce his attacking impact. Surely this is an uncontroversial point.

If we have other players capable of playing lockdown roles, allowing Yeo off the chain, why not do that?

I'd play both petch and cameron. Waterman goes out for cripps. As I said previously, our forward line has been on fire since the bye.

Hutch probably deserves a best 22 spot, but no different to last year I think we should maintain the 6 midfielder structure and bring him in for a mid.

Last year it was hutch, then sheed, then gaff that was the unlucky mid to miss out.

This year it is probably masto that is the unlucky mid to miss out.

We tried playing the extra midfielder early in the year and the dynamic wasn't right. When masto went out of the team in round 8 we looked a lot better structurally. This has continued post bye with the 6 midfielders as well.

Am also either/or with Petch and Cameron, but Petch still makes some rushed/silly mistakes.
Cameron is a natural instinctive footballer, opportunistic, kicks a goal or three, pressures well.
But it sure looks good with both of them zipping around the frontline!
Would have Oscar over Waterman in. Both have their merits and will be with us a long time, but feel Oscar offers more value or versatility. Waterman out for Cripps
Sooner Cripps and Hutch back, the better.
If Sheed was a little banged-up last week, wouldn't hurt to rest him for Hutch,
otherwise the little battler and legendary space-guardian Masto, moves aside.
(bad news about Brander)

I think a big question going forward is our rucks, I love what Oscar is doing but if Vardy is available and NN does not come up will Simpson go with what he knows has worked in the past?
Hickey and Vardy Ruck, Waterman out and Oscar takes Waterman role.
Vardy has been average this year but coaches never forget what players have done for them before and if Vardy is fit and NN is not available I think we might see him back in the side.
All that matters for the minute though is winning so bring on the Crows for now.

Vardy would have to do a lot more than be available. I think if NN doesn't come up we're sticking with Oscar as backup for the time being.

Jesus I hope not. Vardy has been beyond putrid this year. Has done **** all as a ruckman and much less as a forward Hickey has shown he can ruck 80% and Allen has been more than serviceable and gives us good versatility. Add to that the great work Darling has done rucking in the F50, I can't see any situation that Vardy comes back this year.

I am not advocating he should I just know coaches love to go with what has worked before. I agree with what you say however. 2019 is not 2018
