Reckon Petch is showing more than what DV showed last year and we kept him in and still won the flag
Yeah but that depends entirely on how many first-choice players we have unavailable. If we had Gaff and Sheppard at the end of 2018, Venables would have been first dropped.

That leaves us with Cripps, Cameron, Rioli, Ryan, Darling, Kennedy, Alan forwards
Mids - Hutch, Masto, Redden, Gaff, Yeo, Shuey, Sheed, Hickey
Defense - Gov, Barrass, Shep, Schoey, Duggo, Jetta, Hurn

Depth: Waterman, Petch, Nelson, Vardy

Do you reckon Petch or Cameron?

It really is a difficult call, both offer different traits and both have a really high ceiling. So the more experience they gain the better.

Petch could break a final open with his pace, but Cameron with tackling and defensive effort could be more important in a high intensity game.

Either way I still think we can be developing our young guns while going B2B

Smashed in stoppages today. We will cut to pieces by the Crows if that happens. I'd be happier with Hutchings there, but hard to see who goes out. Sheed surely has enough credits in the bank now, so unless Sheed's really not fit I dunno how else Hutchings fits into the team.

Agree that Cripps is a lock for one of Waterman, Petch or Cameron. Anyone dropped from our forward line would feel bloody stiff, but Crippa is that important. Cameron to be rested perhaps.

Redden played angrier than I've ever seen him play. So much niggling and wrestling and solid tackles.

Not sure what provoked that but I liked the fight he showed.
Redden is the one guy in the side whose attitude I'm not particularly keen on right now. I've noticed for several weeks in a row he's been going too far with little acts that are mostly minor in their own right, but add up to a picture I don't like. I love players with some mongrel in them, but fair mongrel, not nasty or just dumb stuff. Mental toughness has been such an important component of our success in the last 2 years and I reckon Jack Redden needs to just reel it in by about 2% because he's right on the edge of giving away dumb 50s for no good reason.

Completely disagree. It's that bit of mongrel that makes less experienced teams like Carlton second guess themselves.

I'd rather have Redden and Yeo pushing the line and intimidating the opposition, even if they give the occasional free away. So much of this game is mental, but you can't get away with a lot of physical intimidation in 2019. Which is why the little ugly stuff is so important.

Hawthorn dominated teams before they even took to the park. The opposition knew they would have to earn every touch.

Redden's lead the way with pressure acts the past two weeks I think. Yeo is also aggressive and gave away 3 free kicks today. You take that when he plays like that but even he could be cleaner.

The 3 contested marks were great to see, used to do that way more often.

In - Cripps

Out - Cameron

Cameron virtually unsighted, feel like pet is one or two games away from really taking advantage of his pace and our usually crisp delivery inside 50. He's right spot right time so often but has a fumble or gets a had bounce.

Cripps is probably in the top 5 HFFers in the league and comes straight in.

Hutchings is best 22 but Nelson doing nothing wrong. Amazing problem to have.

In: Cripps
Out: Cameron

Potentially bring in Hutch aswell for a fwd tag on Laird/Smith. Waterman most likely out in that case, but I quite like our balance with him in the team. Only other option is Petch, but his pace is such a weapon and he played well today doubt he goes out.

The amount of play today that was opened up by Redden being juuuuust a bit of a campaigner was remarkable. Tackle, little push into the ground, Carlton are so keen to fly the flag that three guys are pushing and jumper punching one Eagle, Redden.

Meanwhile two loose Eagles carve through the ground. It happened several times, I was amazed they couldn’t reel it in.

No changes

I saw Hutch playing on Saturday and he was ok and did not justify a recall.

Cripps has not been brilliant in the past when returning from injury and I though Waterman and Cameron deserve to retain their spots. Simpson complemented the high half forwards so assume from that he is happy.

There's no way Crippa is playing Magoo's if he's fit.
