Quite bizarre when you consider his GF performance on Sidebottom. People watched that less than 12 months ago but are now like "nah don't need it".
And watched sidebum carve us up a few short weeks ago - hutch in that week and wed be top of the table right now.

What about when the best midfielder goes to the goal square?
He channels this guy

But yeah, bit weird asking our best midfielder to tag when we have a perfectly good Hutchings. Yeo going head-to-head with players like Bont and Fyfe, following them to the goalsquare, is probably a thing of the past; he's just too good to be taken outta the midfield.

Hutch to Sloane is a no brainer IMO.

Let Crippa have a run in he two's this week.

Hutch for Waterman

Think Nelson can also play that role, but has a few more strings to his bow
Nelson struggled over the years with his tank but he started this season training with the midfielders in an effort to improve in this area
Has been groomed as a second tagged who is versatile in other areas
Can’t fault his form since coming into the 22
Nelson’s been super. Going to be interesting if he keeps his spot when Duggan gets back into the side, but I think it’s been a really good step forward for Jackson this year.

Hutch has got the runs on the board. But it’s good to know we have someone who can play in that role should he get himself injured again.

They go to the goal square because Yeo has been touching them up.

Straight into the loving arms of Schoey

It is bizarre. Although I guess you only have to look at the commentary on JK to realise people do tend to have very short memories. Having someone who can take out a dangerous playmaker but also find a bit of ball himself is really important to us.

Although Yeo can take a defensive role on a midfielder, it’s something we don’t really want him doing full time. I’d prefer him to go all out and let the opposition worry about his influence.

Wait, is Sidebottom collingwood’s best player?
He's won their last two B&Fs, finishing equal with Grundy last year. And he polled highest in last year's Brownlow, for what it's worth, coming second overall. He and Grundy were their only AA players last year. Again, for what it's worth. And he was probably their best player in the QF.

When it came to tagging a midfielder in the GF, Sidebottom was the guy.

This year, he's been eclipsed by Treloar in the midfield.

Yeah its not like he curbed Collingwood's best player in a close grand final or anything. 👌😒
Agreed i mean its a case of in the penultimate game of the year he was sent to quell the influence of a player who did good. And did gooder.

Don't think anyone said tag. We said head to head

I can only think of cripps, Martin, danger, bont and Fyfe who could do that with any real effect. 3 of which we don't have to worry about for the rest of the season

Coaches disagreee judging by his 30-odd consecutive games before injury.
That's great, but he wasn't an auto selection. He got picked to play WAFL so seems the coaches don't think he's an auto selection either.

I think he adds something to our team, but unless we need him to do a job or someone isn't performing and he is, I wouldn't bring him in.

What constitutes an "auto selection"? I mean, sure, they still have a match committee where they go through it and pick players individually based on their merits. It's not like "auto-fill" when you complete a form online.

But he played 30-something games in a row. That suggests that there was generally "a job" for him. Has that changed in the past 3 weeks?

IMO an auto selection would be straight into the top side without WAFL.

The point is that even when people talk about "Yeo going H2H", you are simply not going to have two midfielders play on each other for the whole game. When we come up against a gun midfielder, we're going to have different guys go to them at different stages. Sometime we'll back Yeo to beat them straight up. That's well and good. But sometimes we'll prefer to release Yeo and have a more dedicated stopper go to the opposition gun. Sometimes we'll need to find a match-up in D50. Reducing it to Yeo H2H doesn't describe the reality.

Nelson could do both those jobs but I'll leave it up to the MC have a good one mate
