Skipworth unlucky but Prismall has earnt his spot now and something's gotta give. Jetta did enough to get another gig, Lonergan is ahead of him ATM, If we didnt have the split round coming up then I would think about Zaharakis having a rest but that can wait, and finally Monfries, Slattery and McPhee as 'out' suggestions are laughable and do not warrant a response.

Skippy solid but we need far more from him given experience & age. Mcveigh was slow today and his performance made me wonder if his ankle is actually 100%. Does he need more time ?

Prismall is finding the ball (30 disp today @ Bendigo) in a team doing very badly, playing only 60 mins I footy. I reckon he would add more than either Skippy or Mcveigh now.

Who gets dropped out of Mcveigh & Skippy could depend on
Mcveighs body after the battle today but I hope he just needs more match fitness & plays. Let's see how this pans out cause I want to be wrong about his ankle.

Dempsey 100% = lock
Belly's injury means Hooker helps Ryder rucking - mcphee playing as key back with Pears is a big worry though. His form is very iffy & I wonder who could play on Tippet/Walker aside from Pears/Mcphee. Daniher could be a darkie at
the selection table if they decide to Drop Skippy & Mcveigh is too sore.

Of course if Fletch is fit he plays to.
Aside from Dempsey in & Belly out not 100% of the chgs yet.

Just because Slattery is dropped does not mean he is being made a scapegoat. He is very much a horses for courses type player. Who was a realistic match up today against Geelong?

Hawkins - obviously not a chance (far too small and wouldn't ask it of him)
Mooney - ditto
Johnson - it had had been said many times before the game he couldn't overhead with SJ
Varcoe - wouldn't think Slats could keep up
Byrnes - ditto
Djkurra - ditto (did seem a little slower than Varcoe & Byrnes so maybe)
Rooke - well you are not going to tag a tagger surely
Abblett - can't see Slats staying with him

Chapman - this would have been OK, obviously Chapman didn't play


So who of the list of players that is realistically going to play forward would you play Slattery on with any confidence? Chapman is the only match up IMO and he didn't play.

Slattery is protected because he is hard and gives his all as a defensive player. There are so few decent players that he can do a job on that he ends up being carried more weeks than he is not.

Lets look at the set up next week:

Tippett - obviously not chance (far too small and wouldn't ask it of him)
Walker - can't go with him overhead
Porplyzia - ditto
Thompson - ditto
Goodwin - ditto
Johncock - (hardly ever plays forward these daysayway) can't keep up with him
Dangerfield - ditto

That is it for the dagerous forward options that I would bother closing down. If there is no match up for the shut down player why would he play?

Slattery's best role is on small, nippy, crumbing forwards.

He gets up cut up by marking forwards whether small or tall.

And u wanted him to play on Chapman who is strong overhead.

He's going to have his day's where he has high numbers because he runs around on his own all day. Most people could in that roll. Yesterday's effort was disgusting and should absolutely get dropped - both because of the performance yesterday and the above mentioned facts.

I don't think that matters. I think we need to revise what we do with injured players and their comebacks because it's evident they are getting very little out of being played at Bendigo. Especially when a game is at Bendigo, given the state of the ground.

I appreciate he'll be underdone, but I'd play him. We need his class, composure and for lack of a better word "spunk".

If he isn't at risk of re-injury then wheel him out.

Jetta- Not up to it. Really not up to it.

He was the only player who didn't look pressured yesterday. It has his at 67% but I don't believe that, nor do I believe Ryder's was as low as 56%

Jetta showed signs of his class again yesterday, his kick to Stanton in the first quarter was brilliant. He was one of only four players (Bellchambers was one and he probably shouldn't count) that didn't register a clanger/turnover yesterday.

looking at matchups and the need for a chop-out ruckman (perhaps lucas) to replace bellchambers i see whole-sale changes this week.

the matchups i'd have:

Adelaide's forwards

HFF Van Berlo - McVeigh. i'd play spike off half-back whilst his fitness improves, he's been a good defender in the past and could easily do the job on a bloke like van berlo.

CHF Tippet/Stevens - Hooker the logical choice.

HFF Dangerfield - Dempsey. very quick so need a guy with pace to match him - hopefully dempsey is right to go or otherwise might need to look at daniher.

FP Porplyzia - Daniher. Like S.Johnson this is the key matchup we need to get right. Daniher is a reasonable spoiler and can match his pace. Please oh please don't put h.slattery on him knighter...

FF Walker - Pears obvious matchup.

FP Douglas - Myers. I want genuine defenders in the team and thats what myers is and he'd match up well size-wise on douglas.

So i would see Essendon's lineup looking as such:

B: Daniher, Pears, Myers

C: Lovett, Watson, Stanton

Slattery- people need to top excessively putting him down, he has done very well as a small defender this year kept nearly all of his opponents quiet and he can be excused for losing to one of the inform forwards in the comp in SJ.

Skipworth- its a comfortable decision to say that he will play this week, its his 50th game and would be against his old club in adelaide. he will lift and he although he didnt have a good game yesterday it was his first game back for a while

lonergan- while hasnt been in great form his game wasnt too bad on the weekend and he always gives his all, nevertheless his omission would be justified

zaka- see lonergan

bellchambers- well he isnt at a n afl standard and is injured now anyway

Really agree with what you are saying. Why has St.Kilda won 10 games in a row?? They aren't that good, it's because they have had a STABLE line up. With Bellchambers out, we will really needa backup ruckman so Daniher will have to come in, but I really want our side to be settled.
