We have plenty of players who can do what Brayshaw does - he's one of many possible midfield rotations. Picking someone who provides a target up front and can give Gawn a chop out in the ruck is rarer.

I can understand him not getting picked, but Tim Smith - who appears to be a medium-sized bucket of nothing special - being ahead of him in the pecking order is perplexing.
Cant understand continued non selection of Pedo

Pretty happy with the ins. Would like to have seen Garlett get another game. Be interesting to see if he plays VFL or is given a rest off the short break

Liking Tmac coming back in. Thinking he’ll start Forward and be moved back as and if required.
if Garlett wasnt injured on Tuesday night he should be in the VFL for a month- as piss poor an effort as ive seen.

Yeah I don't get Goodwin. Drops Garlett for a game at the dome against a fast side. Sure he had a quiet game against the tigers. Still kicked a goal. Players like Garlett and Hunt are going to go quiet in patches. That's just the trade off. Even Cyril does. Garlett is way ahead of Hannan and Pedersen is way ahead of Weid/Spargo/Smith/whatever other vfl player you want to ridiculously include off the back of barely any form.

Hell if we're dropping players on form, how does Lever really have his spot? Harmes? Even Jetta?

Hope it all works because if he loses this one, with some of these weird (imo) changes I'd suggest after 3 weeks of losses he might be starting to actually be asked some questions

Short turn around. Might just be good list management.

110% agree. I'm not sure why people can't understand this argument. Pedersen isn't a world beater, but he fills a role that we require right now and offers way more than those being picked ahead of him. Tim Smith being a picked instead is a pretty big statement I'd have thought.

Goodwin obviously doesn't think we need a back up ruck or secondary target.

Garlett has been our worst player the last 2 games, worst on ground.

I disagree. But even if he was, that's just the way it goes with small forwards sometimes when the side isn't playing all that well and the forward line isn't functioning. He wins way more games for us than he loses. Or do we forget about those? He's one of our most reliable sources of goals. You don't drop that. Same with Hunt. Too much of a weapon, but he will have games where he is quiet. Just the price you pay, within reason.

He had a 5 possie and 6 possie games the last 2 weeks. If he isn't kicking goals for us he does nothing. He needs to do more. Kent for example does a lot more when he's not kicking goals.

We can't accept it's the way it goes with small forwards when the sides not playing well, Jeffy is a senior player, he needs to step up when the side is down.

There's quiet and then there's shit. Some of the efforts he put in last Tuesday were farking weak - even for him. Might have been in the first or second quarter, but I remember the ball being loose in the forward 50 and Garlett half ran passed the thing and was given a very gentle nudge by someone that basically cleared him from the contest. It was U12s type stuff. Normally he'd swoop on the ball and have a pop at goal, but he looked disinterested and was in some other dreamworld against the Tigs.

I'm glad Goodwin dropped him to show it isn't acceptable to put in performances like that. Would be nice to extend that same standard to Harmes, although with him you can't accuse him of not trying; his problems appear to centre on the gulf between his imagined and actual ability.

Nice post nickh32.

I would have been disappointed if they did not drop Garlett, based solely on lack of form. I hope he can fight his way back asap, as the best Melbourne team includes him in my opinion.

Really looking forward to this game tomorrow.

Could be. I doubt it though given no one else is really being rested.

We made 5 changes albeit 2 forced, Garlett has always had these quiet periods in his career and usually after a rest comes back and plays his best footy.

Amazing what can happen in a year. I remember Jobe in that game, poor guy never really recovered from the suspension.

Tim Smith had 31 possessions last night & Pedders dropped quite a lot of marks he shouldve taken.
