The only way they'll be softer than AFL grounds (with the exception of Optus Stadium apparently) is if its been raining, which would probably make them more dangerous for something like a foot injury, as they'll be chopped up and uneven.

I think people, myself included, are pissed off becuase
a) His performances in the 2nds seem to be far ahead of Weid, and the Smiths, even though they wont play
b) He is better than Weid at the moment
c) We seem to have a good record with him in the side
d) He fixes what, according to common opinion here is a flaw with our team, in that we don't have people who can take contested marks inside 50

All this wile 'Ol Chompers appears to be undroppable

EDIT: Since I basically don't watch Melbourne anymore due to the anger and anxiety it produces in me, I am going on a fair bit of second hand information here

Anyone know what has gone on between Pedersen and the coach? If Smith is being named ahead of him, I think my hypothesis a few weeks ago when he was dropped for no reason was right.

He's way ahead of Weid and dud nothing to get dropped. He also fills a need in giving Gawn a chance to rest. No one else dies that even remotely as well. He also has dominated in the vfl as opposed to others

Pedersen averages one contested mark and one mark inside 50 over the last 3 years. He’s good in the air but he’s very much a role player at senior level, it’s not like he’s getting screwed

Ah, yes. Good point on the lack of rain. But for a guy coming off a stress injury to his foot, I still think soft muddy ground would be safer for him than thumping along the well drained but often overly firm modern day football grounds. Not likely an option though.

Makes a difference though if he is done after 2 quarters. In VFL you might say bring him off - in AFL if the score line is close and he has had impact you might send him back on and cross your fingers that he will play through the pain in the hope of a win

Yep. This is exactly my problem with him. When he’s good he’s very impressive but people here ignore the huge periods where he goes missing.

I hope not, one of the reasons we won last year was his garbage kicking when he picked up 11 touches in the third quarter and we blew them away from his turnovers

Going off the stats posted in the Casey thread, both Tim Smith and Joel Smith didn't play against Richmond's VFL side but are named in seniors extended bench.

I assume it's purely because we had a short turnaround. Fritsch also didn't play. At least if any of the 3 of them were picked, they should be fresh.

Lewis & TMac we simply don't know where they're at, but hopefully they're fully fit and ready to go, otherwise they wouldn't be named.

Interesting for me that of our 44 players, only Keilty, King, Filipovic, Balic, Baker, Kennedy-Harris, Johnstone, Vandenberg and McKenna are yet to be named in an extended squad so far this season...

That’s not really the point though. Everyone’s complaining like Pedo comes in and performs at an exceptional level in the seniors after good VFL form but in reality whenever he does well in the VFL he comes back in to the firsts and is largely average. He’s a good player, I like him a lot, but I think the coaches’ frustrations with him are more than justified, especially for a senior player. He has the ability of someone like Adelaide’s Lynch, but he’s not nearly as consistent which is his greatest downfall.
