Frampton has never shown anything as a forward at SANFL level. I.e. repeat leads, body positioning in a 1v1, recovery when the ball hits the deck, kicking i50.

And yet he is an apparent superstar. John Butcher all over again.

Taking the odd pack mark does not make you a good forward.

Except that Marshall's playing Marshall's role. There's literally not a single thing Frampton has over Marshall right now except evidently a couple of BigFooty posters who'd rather roll the dice on a colossal gamble than be a little bit patient with a sure thing.

Colossal gamble ? Marshall provided very little yesterday. Marshall defiantly is much much more mobile and has a bigger bag of tricks but Frampton is the better contested mark.

Im not saying we drop Marshall for next week, id still play him BUT if Marshall doesn't lift and provide a lot more and Frampton starts kicking bags from FF in the SANFL then we should make the swap but that may not happen. Its about playing our best side and Marshall needs to prove thats with him in it and if Frampton wants to play, same rule applies.

With Dixon out of the picture for a while and no genuine KPF in the SANFL Marshall has a lot more leniency than other plays will be getting.

As long as he isn't listening to the talk how good he is, how good he is and training and just expecting it to all happen for him. May teach him about how hard you need to work.

Couldn’t agree more, I said several pages ago that he could be dropped for disciplinary reasons and that would include not putting the work in. I’ve seen no evidence that that’s the case so far this year though.

And again I don’t think anyone’s development as an AFL player goes very far in the SANFL, and that goes doubly and triply for key forwards.

Neade didn't have extended runs, he played badly he got dropped. Sam Gray's late 2018 run was a dud I agree, but he had a very good 2017 and first third of 2018 to rest on. Marshall has nothing besides impressive Family Day performances and 3 goal v Freo last year when everyone feasted out.

4 goals versus Freo actually. 3 the next week versus the Swans at the SCG. 2 goals later in the year against Carlton. And it would've been two goals last week too if Westhoff hadn't marked a kick in the goalsquare which would've been a goal if he'd just let it go.

The guy you're advocating bringing in for him has only kicked multiple goals once in his career, and that's even before getting to the point that dropping Marshall for Farrell would completely wreck our structure.

Sometimes I read your posts and have no idea what team you watch every week. This is definitely one of those times.

I can’t believe we spend years, YEARS FFS!, seeing how not backing in young KPF’s for an extended run has cost us badly, yet some want to repeat the mistakes.

Marshall + Westhoff, with mostly Ryder up there too who is one of the best rucks resting forward?

I'm ok with leaving Marshall in, ok with dropping him for Frampton, I'm not ok with dropping Marshall for a small, and I don't think we can carry all of Ryder, Lycett, and Frampton.

I don't mind Marshall staying in the side. He just needs to assert himself more.

Watts' replacement eventually will be Lienert. He's about as close as we have.

But at this stage...Wines and Hartlett in for Amon and Watts. Brisbane don't really use their height to win games of football - their forward line is built around speed. Bonner is ****ing lucky that Lienert is still injured, and Byrne-Jones should know he's just keeping the seat warm for Broadbent.

Personally, im not calling for it agasint Bris. Marshall should stay for now, but needs a big lift or should go for Frampton IF he starts kicking bags, currently his form isn't any more deserving of AFL selection.

I can’t believe people think Broadbent will play AFL again.

Before injury he was average, his body is wrecked, move on, our back half is solid it doesn’t need Broady, he’s been surpassed.

When has dropping a forward, especially a tall forward, back to the reserves ever, EVER helped them regain form???

Rucks or midfielders who can get their own ball, great. Defenders who can mop up inferior delivery into the opponent's forward line, have at it. Even small forwards who can proactively position and crumb forward entries, maybe.

But tall forwards more than any other player on the ground are dependent on the skill levels of those around them and the delivery they generate. Playing against inferior opponents is not going to run them into form if they don't get the ball, which often happens because they don't get the quality supply they are used to.

I think playing Marshall in the two while developing his game and adjusting to the new gameplan is a horrible idea. And to replace him with a makeshift forward like Frampton even worse. Move him around the ground, up the ground, get him involved. These strategies often are more sound than dropping a key forward a level.

I am concerned about the Marshall/Ryder combination, largely because Ryder lives for playing ruck, and everything else flows from that. So there is a case for playing Frampton or Howard up forward (not by replacing Ryder at this stage, maybe replacing a small because Marshall is agile enough to play small and the ruck duo concept is working a treat), so do that by all means, but not at Marshall's expense at this stage. He would have to have more bad games in good conditions before I would be considering the questionable strategy of letting him find form in the Magpies.

Good come come back, I can live with that as long as he makes some head way, besides the sanfl is not a good place to find form.

Hartlett is fine as a replacement for Watts. Most of Jack's work back there has been with footy in hand. And Hartlett's pretty good in the air himself. I think we've got enough height back there without having to call Dougal up.

Amon's replacement is more interesting. I don't know how ready Wines is, but I assume they want to reintegrate him as soon as possible. If not Wines, it might be an opportunity for Mayes against his old side.
