If Frampton is going to provide more up forward than Marshall has in the past two weeks (which has been nothing) then it is a no brainer to pick Frampton. I'd like to think we are in the business of winning especially at this stage of the season.
How has Frampton gone for the Maggie’s over the past couple of weeks?

Dropping Marshall would be a deeply depressing sign that we've learned nothing whatsoever.

And how has not playing Frampton worked out for his development? This is not a league in which you just carry players.

To me, apart from a couple of marks in the last game last year... Frampton has shown me absolutely nothing that suggests that he offers any more than Marshall.

Fair enough. If that is the case, Marshall stays in. But to simply carry players for the sake of development isn't a philosophy that I agree with. Development is what the SANFL is for. I think it speaks volumes for the lack of quality and depth in the league that several clubs have to resort to player development at the highest level.

Poorly. What's your point? Frampton is a ruckman.

This is not a league in which you just carry players.

And the SANFL is not a league in which you play 20 year old tall forwards you drafted in the first round, especially while your primary tall forward has a long term injury.

Would love to see Trengove get rewarded for his form, just to maintain the precedent of keeping the pressure to perform on the best 22 from those below.

Frampton is a ruckman? News to me.

burton can play tall? did a job against walker 195cms in his hawks days. Taylor different style from hipwood but i think he is athletic enough

Sam Gray and Jake Neade are two names that immediately spring to mind ...
I guessed you'd go that route, you picked guys that actually performed very well at times. Sammy Gray for extended periods and after earning and re-earning his spot in the SANFL.
Well unarguably they were shorter than Marshall. But both could tackle and could kick goals often enough that their good games outweighed the bad. You haven't named any players who were/are far worse, or who play in positions where we have greater depth and have been gifted extended runs.

Been thinking about this one today and I actually wouldn't mind Ken Hinkley to pick S Gray for the Brisbane game,

Why you ask?

To run with and tag D Zorko, Zorko is one player who can really do some damage against us in the midfield and he's always struggled when the opposition has employed the tag on him.

We'll need to try and stop the supply to the Brisbane KPFs and Zorko is one that does that.

Ladhams has been in better form than Frampton (in the ruck and around the ground with his contested marking).

But we need a tall goal kicker and neither are offering much up forward. We’ve been relying on smalls (S.Gray, Johnson, Cox, Woodcock etc) to score.

McKenzie might be an option in a few weeks when Lienert and Grundy come back, he could end up going forward more in the SANFL because of that. He kicked the winner vs North and played a quarter forward vs South and kicked 3.

I’d obviously prefer to keep playing Marshall for as long as possible, but that could be something to think about down the line.

Todd Marshall's talent ceiling is at least twice that of Sam Gray and Jake Neade combined. He's not going to learn to be an AFL player plodding around in godforsaken suburban grounds playing kick and giggle. He shouldn't be dropped for any reason other than disciplinary, or a form slump a hell of a lot more significant than one indifferent game followed by one bad one.

These 2-3 months with Dixon out are exactly the time to give Marshall and extended run in the first team. The experience he will get from playing as essentially our marquee forward with Ryder/Lycett playing as resting forwards and Ebert as the only other "big bodied" forward will be absolutely invaluable to his career. We're playing 4 second gamers for god's sake, if we're going to debut and persist with them then we have to persist with Marshall too, who has just as much talent as the rest of them. There will be growing pains for sure but the result in the long run could set up our forward-line for the next 10+ years.

Agree with Cadaver that Watts (injured) out for Dougal Howard and Amon (injured) out for Ollie Wines. Also no problem with Bonner out for Hamish Hartlett if the coaches want to go the chop on his uninspiring R2 performance. Will add Marshall out for Kane Farrell.

So you were a big fan of last year's forward line then? The forward line so bad that we let go of our forwards coach with two years left on his contract?

Jake Neade was picked for five consecutive games last year in which he didn't kick a single goal. Not one. And in one of those games he didn't even register a kick.

Marshall still has a full month of not kicking a single goal to go before he reaches Jake Neade level.

Who comes out for Hammer then? Won't be Burton, and I thought DBJ had a better game.
Hartlett was ordinary on Friday night, didn't or couldn't get out of first gear.
Learn from last years mistakes of picking players that go back and don't put it..
Hartlett plays at the Maggies next week

IN: Wines, Hartlett
OUT: Amon, Watts

Brisbane are small and quick. We don't need the extra tall. I think HH for Watts is enough.

Going to be an interesting game, i expect Brisbane to go in favourites pending how they play today. Hopefully we can sort out some of our structural issues during the week and try and pinch the win.

Stats say not great but unsure.

Left of centre thought.

Throw Westhoff back to cover Watts, throw Howard up forward?
Westhoff has kicked 2 bags of 5 in his last three games playing forward.
Howard is a key defender that hasn't played forward for 18 months..

McInerney - 205cm
Hipwood - 204cm
McStay - 195cm

Their forward line isn't. Play Doogs. We didn't need him against our last two opponents but this week we do.

Both those guys also had extended poor runs without any risk of being dropped, while we seem ready to drop KPFs after two average to poor games. That's precisely the point - double standards. Also, KPFs are hard to develop. They take time and patience.
