The changes will be Wines and Hartlett in for Amon and Watts, and I’ll be happy with that. Watts isn’t playing as a key back, he’s playing as an intercepting defender with clean skills and good decisions coming out of defence. Hartlett to me is the logical replacement. Watts’ replacement needs to be more than someone whose first, second, and third natural instinct is punching the ball (Howard).
Others will be shuffled around to accomodate Wines.

I think he’s done ok as a natural forward converted to being a defender. I just think he needs to learn there’s plenty of times when a defender needs to mark rather than punch. Maybe Jason Cripps has been mentoring him or something, though I’m yet to see the Troy Chaplin double fister under no pressure.

But at the same time, we have a structure that has been working and too often in the past we've abandoned good structure in favour of personnel.

I pretty much agree, and believe Hartlett is the most like for like replacement for Watts.

Because he had one poor JLT game. In 40 degree heat.

Howard was pretty average against South Adelaide, then was better against the crows (reserves) and was good vs West Adelaide.

So as far as I'm concerned he's improving week by week.

Dougal has some flaws but I really like the mobility for a guy his size, shit all our defenders have flaws but the unit as one should be mature enough to cover for each other.

Watts will be missed mainly for his ball use off half back, Dougal can add more run but I do agree he needs to be switched on and attack the contest with more vigour.

Wouldn’t it be so Port Adelaide to finally have the height up forward and then be undone by being too short down back.

But he plays an entirely different way to Watts. I think for the things that Watts has been asked to do down back (lock down an opponent, intercept mark, and set up play coming out of defence) Hartlett covers the best.
