heck. If we were gonna do the pissweak thing and drop Marshall you could've at least given us Mayes, Ken. Somebody who has an AFL ready body and who knows the Gabba better than anyone else on our list. We know what Sam Gray brings, and it's mediocre.

I'm ok with it, Gray will be much better than what Todd dished up last week, unfortunately the young fella was a bit of a liability and needs to find some form.

Not the point. Football is a team game. I'm sure Sam will get more Dream Team points than Marshall did last week, but it comes at the expense of our forward structure now and at the expense of the development of probably the most crucial player on our list for the future.

So Farrell was kept out of the SANFL side as he was close to being in the team, Sam Gray kicks 4 because he played so he gets the gig???

Clearly not a decision Bassett wanted then? as he would prefer Farrell no? am I missing something?

We all know what Sam Gray delivers, do we need a re-run, he isn't the future is he?

Bassett loves Sam Gray as much as Hinkley does.

Even if the Gray for Marshall swap was conditions based, it's the month plus that it'll take before Sam Gray is exorcised from the team that is the problem. He doesn't often have stinkers, but he sure makes our forward line stink as a whole.

Sam Gray should play as an accumulating midfielder or nothing IMO. I didn't see the SANFL, but presumably if he had 36 touches he was spending a fair chunk of time in the middle. But then, there is just no need for a slow, inside focused accumulator with poor disposal in our midfield mix at the moment.

Farcical selection that has the potential to derail the season.

If be fine with this if dixon was playing. But going in with westhoff and a resting ruck as our only two key forwards is dumb.

I dont believe in putting a line through players either, especially this early in the year. And its not like S.Gray didnt earn his selection

If Gray plays Amons role, then i'm happy with that. He's a hard runner and can find loads of space.

If we see him at FF against Harris Andrews then i'll be turning the tv off.

We essentially don't have a single specialist key forward this week. Westhoff is a utility, Ryder is a ruckman, Ebert is a midfielder learning the role. It'd be one thing if we still had Dixon in the team, but we don't.

He also can't kick. If we play him in Amon's role, we don't get the competent 2019 version of Amon, we get the version of Amon who kicked the ball OOF against the Dockers about 5 times last year.

He will be at FF. There is nothing in the history of Sam Gray selections to suggest otherwise.

Sam Gray is good little footballer. Definitely played some great games for the club. Deserves his place on the fringe and the odd game when his form warrants it and someone in the A team needs a spell or is injured.

I thought his 2017, especially the back end was very good.

But yeah i've never understood why supporters get so bent out of shape over certain selections.

I think they're reasonable changes.

With the inclusions of Howard and Wines, it really doesn't matter if Gray gets a game or not. We weren't winning the game off the back of Marshall's contribution.

What Gray does bring to the table is the pressure that is necessary against a young Brisbane team, which Marshall wasn't delivering.

I'm more interested in our defence. With Howard coming back, there is absolutely no excuse for Bonner and Byrne-Jones to not get up the field and defend from the front. They've got three key position backs in the side now. There is also no excuse for such appalling DE% this week.

He's just not a forward. Ken himself admitted as such.

"What have you learned about Sam Gray?"
"That he's a midfielder"

Whyyyyyyy????

You know who else was selected on defensive pressure in the forward line? Jake Neade. And he's gone.

Defensive pressure doesn't mean dick if you're constantly outmarked and can't kick 40 metres.

Because after round 1 Hinkley made much of how he told the 4 debutants “I don’t care about the scoreboard, just play football and take on the opposition”.

But just a fortnight later, after one poor game in greasy, heavy conditions, the developement of Todd Marshall as an AFL key forward takes a back seat as Hinkley plays horses for courses and drops him for Moneyball Sammy.

Sam Gray is no Jake Neade. He's not a spud. He's a perfectly adequate depth player to play good footy in the SANFL and bring back into the AFL side when a like-for-like small gets injured. If Rozee or Butters had hurt themselves and we picked Gray to replace them, no melts from me. There'd be a place for him on the list if we had a coach who knew his limitations and deployed him appropriately.

The problem with Sam Gray isn't Sam Gray, it's Ken Hinkley. Ken Hinkley is the one who has consistently picked him year after year while we have a too short forward line and key forwards sitting in the SANFL. We did it with Butcher, we did it with Eddy, and now, most egregiously of all, we're doing it with Todd Marshall who has more talent in his left nut than those two put together. Sam Gray is gonna get stuck in the forward line having the ball bombed onto his head with Andrews, Walker and Gardiner climbing all over him while Marshall sits in the SANFL. That's on Hinkley.

We can only hope Bassett unlike Lade seems to be able to organise players.... Maybe its Sam Gray reinvented?
Yeah if its Ebert at FF and Gray high half forward I will be pissed off.

If we kick a ball long to Sam Gray in the goal square I will be ropeable.

He said it four years ago and yet the experiment continues.
