You know who else was selected on defensive pressure in the forward line? Jake Neade. And he's gone.

Defensive pressure doesn't mean dick if you're constantly outmarked and can't kick 40 metres.

Absolutely right.

But obviously we weren't providing the right amount of it against Carlton because that's what Ken said he was looking for before the game.

I just don't think it's a big deal. Marshall has been average in both his games - if he was going alright he would still be in the team. Like, in that play with Butters to Drew to Duursma to Motlop, he decided to run exactly the same pattern as Motlop did instead of drawing his defender away from the goal square.

5 years straight of dropping a tall after 2/3 weeks

April Fools 3 days late. Good to know I can mentally check out for the year already. That slim hope things had changed with the new coaches and 6-6-6 rules is gone. Back to waiting till that pig-headed idiot is gone. I'll get to most games still, but at least I don't have to have any expectation we'll improve now.

Sam Gray Sam Gray Sam ******* Gray he is never going to be better then now , what's the point farrel, mayes and aj before that momentum killing Muppet
Our odds against Brisbane increase. Sam Gray feasts out on them every time he comes in replacing a tall. Then we're stuck with him against good sides where our lack of talls kills us for weeks on end. Round 3 and I don't care if we lose badly, if it helps accelerate the end of Hinkley. Those saying 'we've got him, give him a chance with new coaches' have been shown as wishful thinkers. Short term pain for us now, for long term gain of getting rid of him.

Sam Gray = Defensive pressure is one of the great myths. I have nightmares over the number of times I’ve seen him go to ground as his opponent waltzes out of our forward 50 ball in hand.

Sam Gray is good little footballer. Definitely played some great games for the club. Deserves his place on the fringe and the odd game when his form warrants it and someone in the A team needs a spell or is injured.

I thought his 2017, especially the back end was very good.

But yeah i've never understood why supporters get so bent out of shape over certain selections.

I think they're reasonable changes.
This, no issues from me.

Really annoyed at this decision.

I'd be ok with going shorter if we were bringing in a dangerous, skillful, small. But we aren't.

I'd be ok if we were bringing in a small, defensive, tackling machine. But we aren't.

We're bringing in a guy that more often than not - especially against decent teams - fumbles all day long, can't kick 35m, falls over like no other, thinks he's a 6'6 contested marking beast, fails to find targets when he has the ball with a huge percentage always falling short of the target and that's not to mention the eternity it takes him to move the ball on once he has it after going through his 'guppy out of water' breathing techniques.

He also buys way, way too many credits from Ken after playing the occasional decent/good game. It keeps him in the side for weeks of poor performance.

He's had his opportunity, more than enough chances to show what he has and he hasn't managed to be good enough, often enough.

Unfortunately he does not make us a better side. It's the opposite.
Is this the game Ken has promised him after luring his mate Lycett over?

He was good against Melbourne. Against Carlton the conditions didn’t suit players of his type.
It's not like it was slippery and he couldn't hold his marks - he was invisible. Lycett, McKay and McGovern all had a good impact as big men around the ground and in attack.

Marshall was in droppable form, absolutely. However, my issues are two fold.

Firstly, the replacement. S. Gray had the best game of all the potential replacements, but this is about structure and the future. We have other young options with more talent than Gray waiting in the wings.

Second, we don't give KPPs the same grace as others to develop. It's no wonder Ken has failed to develop a tall forward in his time here. He doesn't give them any chances and prolonged time to develop.

i dont like S Gray but he has had some good games in the past and usually gets under the guard of the oppo when first being brought back into the team, i think it was a toss up between him & mayes and Gray got the nod because he most probably can play with-in the stuctures a bit better because he know then better, i dont want to see him as a permanent fixture but every now & again is good

I just hope they play Dougal forward, im really interested to see how he can perform as a single focal point forwards with a developed AFL body, i think he may surprise some?

The extra shit on the sandwich is if Todd goes back and kicks 5 goals, if we win Ken will go ‘Richmond without Rance have a short Defense so we don’t need an extra tall’. He never look at an opposition lacking talls and goes ‘Yep let’s exploit that with our talls’. If you were an opposition coach Port would be the side you’d want to hit when injured because we don’t look to take advantage of any weaknesses.

How long has Sam Gray got on his contract, because it's clear like Jake Neade, that if he's on the list Ken will keep picking him. I don't wish injury on any of our players, but I'm hoping Sam has a brain fade and 'accidently' takes out Luke Hodge and gets suspended for 8 weeks.

S Gray wont be the reason wewin or lose on Saturday. In fact i expect he’ll probably have a 20 & 1 type game.

Still a poor selection though

I think the only thing that makes this selection remotely different to previous years is that we're playing 2 genuine ruckmen and one will rest forward.

But still, piss weak by Ken.

No Dixon cancels that out

You have to be kidding Spray in the team?

This is some kind of sick joke

I thought I had seen the last of him at AFL level.

With the inclusions of Howard and Wines, it really doesn't matter if Gray gets a game or not. We weren't winning the game off the back of Marshall's contribution.

What Gray does bring to the table is the pressure that is necessary against a young Brisbane team, which Marshall wasn't delivering.

So you don't believe in the structure that has worked for the first 2 weeks? We need another tall target up forward. Heaven forbid if one of Lycett or Ryder go down during the game. We are screwed if that happens.

We need to get games into Marshall. Having him play at SANFL level does nothing to aid his development.
