Going to be the same thing every year. Gray will be worthless and a nothing player.in long stretches of he game. If there are periods where the game is pretty much over (win or lose) he'll bob up and kick some junk goals to keep his spot.

I'd be happy with Sammy for Marshall, at least we'd get a goal or two. But the internet will melt. Our 3rd best forward for 2017 in the team? Release the Kraken!

******* better not!!!

Bad signs for the season if true.

It means ken is fully immersed in his deck chair and the sunnies are on.

Ohhh dear

Marshall had a shit game last week. I am OK with dropping him provided we keep our structure and replace like for like.

Perhaps we're doing this - Dougal plays forward in place of Marshall, Sam takes Amon's spot on the wing, and Drew moves to the half back line in place of Watts to make way for Wines.

Nah, who am I kidding.
Totally agree with you Duck.
This only makes sense if either Westhoff or Dougal occupy CHF. Ebert positioned at CHF must be a diabolical ruse to confuse intelligence bereft Lions.
I weep tears of blood for Billy. His one game was at worst fair.

Who in the blazes is going to take Marshalls place. Fair dinkum what plan has hinkley got to get goals. I know that he is out of form but S Gray to replace him is this guy nuts!
Please explain!
I have a feeling Ollie is going to play forward in Marahalls role

Had a suspicion so I looked it up.

Sam Gray has his best games vs GCS.

The next best games come against HAW.

BL 3rd best with a bigger sample size than HAW.

He also made his debut v BL and I reckon Kenny has loved the idea of him v BL ever since.

Weird thing to say here, but is it really Frodo that's the issue?

Spray is in for Amon

Howard is in for Watts

The final piece is where it gets confusing.

Ugh I reckon I have worked it out. I'm still not sure I like it but I reckon I've worked it out.

Amon is out for Sam Gray, who will play in the mid and spend at least part of the game tagging Neale

Howard is in for Watts, basic like for like.

Boak is taking the spot of Marshall. They are backing in Ebo to be a full on genuine full forward, and Boaky to be a "short third tall" if that makes sense.

Finally, Wines is taking the spot of Boak, who has spent a lot of time in the guts in games 1 & 2.

Obviously there is a lot of gameday flexibility with this, but I'd say this is the basic plan.

Bit of a surprise to bring Dougal and Sam in, but I don't mind it. Sam Gray is a depth player, and we have a stack of best 22 players out. If he isn't playing now then we shouldn't have him on the list. Ultimately nearly 34 touches and a 4 goals at SANFL level was always going to get him back into consideration.

What we need now is Marshall to find some form as he's been horrible all year so far. We need Farrell to have a big game in the SANFL, and other outside players like Mayes hopefully start to put selection pressure on for a spot. Get that and hopefully we can bump S Gray out again.

Couple more big weeks from Atley would be nice for some selection pressure as well.
I could agree with this but not sure how trengove doesnt get a look in over gray, we know exactly what gray will provide at afl level, 10-25 disp. And a goal. Jack seems to have taken his game to another level that surely warrants another crack at the highest level.

Boak has had 2 good games in the midfield so moving him forward where he struggles looks genius.

I'm not saying I like it or think it's perfect, I wish we had just backed in Hayes or Frampton last year when Ryder went out and we might then be able to bring in Frampton now (with a lot more confidence, we should probably do it regardless).... I'm just saying I think that's where they are going with it.

Straight swap Marshall for Gray doesn't really make a lot of sense

Well a tall for a small is Kens modus operandi.

When I read it I let out a pretty loud '****s sake campaigner'. What in the dick**** is with Hinkley and going tall then instantly chucking in a small 3 rounds in jesus christ

Not just three rounds in, but given we went in unchanged last week it means our first change for the year is to bring S. Gray in for a tall.

You couldn't script a bigger cliché to sum up Hinkley's non sequiturs at the selection table.

Marshall. Hinkley.

??

At no point in our discussion did I say Marshall would not be dropped. Merely that he should not be dropped. Dropping him for Frampton would've been stupid. Dropping him for Sam Gray redefines stupidity.

Not quite. Wines in the forward line to get game time into him.

I saw part of Ken's press conference after the Melbourne game. He had a not so subtle dig at the doubters that supported the club. It came across as petty. The fans had lots of justification to have doubts about him and the club. The results over the years speak for themselves. It was the wrong thing to say. He should have framed it differently. It should have been more about re-gaining the trust of the fans.

And now he's done this. Sam's selection shouldn't have a bearing on Saturday's result. But it's a reminder to dis-enchanted fans that Ken hasn't changed.

What about playing Jake Neade in the final round last season when we were no chance of finals knowing that he would be delisted? Why not give a youngster a go? Same with waiting until that same game to give Frampton a run. Ken has a history of this shit, which is what people are annoyed with.
Neade's farewell game...
