I am genuinely curious here. Can you name some other Shape Keepers at other clubs?

What exactly is shape keeping? What does it involve?
I’ve always been staggered by the regular selection of Kamdyn McIntosh at Richmond. Perhaps he’s a shape keeper. 173 games. Nobody can convince me that more than 40 of them have been up to par.

I would rather Schoenberg in the 22, just think that is the most likely changes we will see. If McHenry wasn't dropped before the Showdown, I find it very unlikely he's going out after his best performance of the season.

They dropped Hamill because he couldn't find the ball at AFL level after trying to give him an extended run, I see Cook going the same way given how well Schoenberg has been performing in the SANFL.
I don't know what they'll do, I was just expressing disappointment if that were to be the case.

Personally, I'd persist with Cook, let Smith find touch in the SANFL, and bring in Taylor and Schoenberg or Taylor and Dowling, for McHenry and Smith.

Did I get McHenry's game wrong? He has a good patch in one quarter with 3 nice plays in a row, but was dreadful apart from that? Was it really his best game?

ROB must be close to getting dropped. 1 mark in the match against a second-string PA ruck line up.
His ruck work appears ok.

He is in the side for his Ruck work not for marking.

I dont think he is getting dropped when he is #1 in the AFL for hitouts, #1 in the AFL for hitouts to advantage and 6th in the AFL for Ruck Contest win %.

That’s a pretty accurate representation of McHenry’s game, and yet that’s how low the bar is. It was his least terrible game for the season.

Ha ha ha.... Thats spot on. Has two premierships to his name.

He is a player that makes an absolute mockery of posters on this board who declare "we will never win a flag with player x in the team".

The main point with Cook has been his work rate .....lazy has been an apt description

Thursday's game though, Cook's workrate was excellent ......particularly without the ball

He's a natural fwd ....finally being played in his correct position .....with his undoubted talent, workrate gives him the best chance of realising an AFL career
The one goal he did kick was because of his work rate, burnt off Bergman who was trailing 30 odd metres behind him.

I thought he was decent enough most of the game (Ned that is). Certainly a better game than someone who touched the ball 4 times. I noticed in the Main Board gameday thread that a few neutral supporters praised McHenry’s game, which I’ve never seen before, so he can’t have been that bad.

If you could combine Cook’s skills with Ned’s work rate you would have the ideal half forward/mid type, but unfortunately we can’t do that… there is just zero excuse to be having 4 touches in a game and averaging 9 across a few matches, especially when he applies zero pressure.

I’m struggling to understand why cook is in the gun yet Jones isn’t.
Jones averages 12 disposals over his 84 game career, cook averaging 1 less.
Very basic stats I know but people say cook needs to get more of it and yet we’ve put up with that from someone else for 84 games.
Jones is in the gun, I'd say. One notable difference is that last year Jones was a much improved player and I think he's still riding on the goodwill from that, but yeah based on his performances this year I think Jones' position is at risk. He's gone back into defence with Nankervis, Cook and Sholl in the team so I think that versatility is helping him hold a spot, but he'd be in the bottom half-dozen players I'd say in terms of the safety of his spot in the team.

I think the stuff around Cook needing to get more of it isn't so much about career stats though, it's that he's been back in the side for 5 games and his best non-North performance is 9 disposals, so he's well down on what he's achieved previously and is struggling to get involved in games.

You must have missed all the fumbles and turnovers. He was dreadful as per usual.

Cook absolutely pansted Langdon in the first quarter of the Melbourne match. He also hasn't been getting much game time most weeks. He shoiuld be persisted with.

One quarter? That is what you're hanging onto? No idea why Cook gets such a gold pass on this board. Hasn't improved in 4 years on the list and we have people defending a 4 disposal game and other single digit game performances. Curtin played 56% of the game and still managed to have a lot more impact in 3 quarters than what Cook did.

People turned on McHenry a lot earlier than this and at least he's put up some decent games at AFL level before 2024.

In: Burgess

Out: Himmelberg

I get it, there were some things that happened on Thursday night that shouldn't be forgiven for Himmelberg but Burgess isn't the answer. Sometimes guys get a run because they are tall, Himmelberg will probably get a ten year career on the basis of being tall. What it does do for us is present possible mismatches in the F50

McHenry might have had 2 half decent game in his career at this point.. the rest were absolute trash

Cook has much better attributes so i would persist with him for a while yet

There are even players in our premiership years who match this description. Every club has them.

He’s still better than H-Berg

Those two hacks reached their ceiling in game 1..

We’ve wasted 150 games on them..

Yet their cheer squad in here want to focus on a young bloke who hasnt even played a dozen games yet…

“Drop him, drop him!!!… bring in my hero murphy!!”..

Murphy is the unflushable turd. We’ve all seen enough of his shite to know he’s an oxygen thief on the field.

Move on.
I know that you consider yourself a great judge of footy talent and at least you are consistent. All last year you were demanding that we banish Laird (20 votes in the 2023 Brownlow) and Keays, and replace them with Cook and Newchurch.

Cook has now had 5 straight matches and averaged 7 disposals a game (makes Murphy look like a ball magnet). Meanwhile Tariek was dropped to the Roosters Bs three weeks ago and might soon be playing in Pt Augusta.

I am not suggesting that we lock in McHenry and Murphy for the season. I simply don’t understand the enthusiasm for Cook (and Newchurch). Over the last year or more, I have been eager to see Worrell, Keane and Nankervis given an extended run in the AFL. I do not rate Cook, based on his SANFL form and his AFL output has been exactly what I predicted.

Out of our current players in the Twos, I am keen to see Taylor and Ryan given some AFL exposure. I am not convinced about Schoenberg and Berry but Harry deserves promotion. Although Billy Dowling has made steady progress, I am still sceptical that he will become an AFL regular.

Brayden has changed little in more than three years. He shows glimpses of talent but doesn’t know how to get enough of the ball. I would love for him to stick it up me and if he is selected this week, I will be cheering for him to do this.

Getting a sputtering Brisbane decimated by injuries and at home. We should win this comfortably.

Added bonus is that the top eight all play each other, so four certain losses there, meaning we can close the gap to current final position holders. We need 13 wins to make finals, just got to keep ticking them off now.
