Are we ever allowed to say no to the trigger? Like it triggers the option of getting another year but ultimately the club can chose against it? I guess why would you have one if it wasn't guaranteed

Smith’s ground coverage would want to improve, has looked terrible.

It’s guaranteed from his end, he isn’t forced to activate it though.

I am not suggesting he had a fantastic game but anyone who watched the whole game suggesting he was awful is plain silly .
He played his typical game as a high half forward. Ran hard, put pressure on their defenders rebounding out of our F50, missed a couple of passes that a good forward would have made. He had 19 disposals, 6 I50s, 6 tackles and 6 marks.

Or we can stick with the guy that had one touch in the last 80 minutes of the Pear game. I won’t throw the toys out of the cot of Brayden is given another game but he has averaged less than 8 disposals in his 5 games of AFL this year.If you remove the game against the Kangaroo witches hats, he has averaged 6 disposals per game.

Well, as I said, I watched the 3rd quarter. In that quarter I was very unimpressed.

Given his form at AFL level was also pretty ordinary, I don't see the need to rush him back in the team. If Cooke goes out, I'd much rather see Taylor or Dowling given a game.

For me, I would like to see:

IN: Smith and Schoenberg
OUT: McHenry and Cook

I think sub is a horrible role for player development so as much as I like Cook, I would prefer to see McHenry as the sub.

That allows Nankervis to move back up to a wing. Unless Schoenberg plays exclusively forward (which I wouldn't like), it would mean less midfield time for someone which would likely be Rankine, Rachelle and Dawson I guess. I wouldn't be opposed to Dawson moving back to a wing full time and trying Jones forward again as his season hasn't been great. Although we would lose a lot on ball doing that so maybe it isn't worth doing.

I don't mind this line of thinking. We need to think of team selection as having two component - what makes us better and what develops talent for the future.

My team this week would look like this:

Michaelanney Keane Hinge
Curtin Worrell Nankervis
Sholl Crouch Jones
Rankine Walker Keays
Himmelberg Fogarty Rachele

ROB Soligo Dawson

INT: Laird Smith Cook Taylor

SUB: McHenry

That means:
OUT: Butts, McHenry
IN: Smith, Taylor

Butts did little wrong, but I'm not sure there is a match up for him. Both Keane and Worrell are better suited to Brisbanes two tall forwards. They are too agile for Butts. You then have Hinge, Curtin and even Dawson if needed for any mid sized forwards (along with Smith, Max and Nankervis who aren't exactly short).
Taylor gets a go in the McHenry spot and Cook gets another game. Might as well let him have a good run at it to see if he can adjust.
 
How have we not heard any leaks yet (A team vs B team)? Wasn't our main session open to the public today?

The journos were too busy watching the showdown highlights on the big screen to see who was in the "A" team at training.

I have seen the Crows play too often without a genuine second key defender and it often leads to players being overly conscience of helping out in the air so we get exposed at ground level when our smaller defenders have gone 3rd and 4th man up. Personally I would rather be too tall in defence than too small. Also, we can't expect Worrell to contribute like he has to our rebound game with the added responsibility of manning the second best forward. For that to be an improvement we would need Worrell to be as good as Butts is defensively and Nankervis to be as good as Worrell is both ways, neither of which are likely in my opinion.

The other big weakness in that side, in my opinion, is through the wings with Scholl, Jones and Cook (I guess). Fair enough, we don't have a lot to work with there but I think that too would be improved with Butts coming in and Nankervis playing on a wing instead of Cook.

I'm not sure what side Brisbane will throw at us but I would be comfortable with Butts on Daniher and Keane on Hipwood. We could always plan to sub Butts out, so we have some flexibility. I would hate to think that we go in with that line up and Keane gets injured early!

What are your thoughts on Taylor? I don't know much about how he is going other than his fitness is apparently way off the mark and his form doesn't seem to be as good as others like Dowling, Schoenberg, Berry and maybe even Murphy. Is it just that he is a more natural half forward than the others or is it something else? Because you are not alone in wanting him in the side.

I watched the Nicks presser and got a different feeling. He was very happy with Curtin’s debut and the composure he showed. He was also happy with Brodie’s form just before his back injury and only said he would get a full game if he’s fully ready, certainly didn’t say he was coming straight back in this week.

Also very happy with Schoenberg’s form and said he’s AFL ready.

I just had a listen, it does seem that Smith for Curtin is likely, with maybe Curtin as sub. I felt ok after the Nicks presser and then this brought me down to earth a bit!

I don’t think we will know much tonight unless one of them is named on the field, given it’s an extended squad both will definitely be named.
 
The one thing I think is certain though is that Brodie isn’t playing SANFL anytime soon, they clearly still see him best 22 when fit and value his experience
