How fkd is the VFL fixture? We get two games in four weeks. Surely they can do better than that.

I guess rep football is a good thing but it's still a shocking draw for the club.
I feel sorry for the coaches (both AFL and VFL) and MC. How do you get any continuity? How do you know who might be ready for a call up to the seniors? How do you get crucial adult footy experience into the new draftees?

Went down later in training today after a big knock with Darcy. Knee tests done, he got back up and did some 25 metre run throughs but then headed inside looking deflated.

Hopefully nothing more than a knock or jar.

I agree it will be frustrating for the AFL listed players because they can’t play in this rep game

I think the issue is we have so little options in that small forward depth that there isn’t much there at all. He’s had limited impact but could argue he looks like our best small forward option on the list.

Moves well, is creative and generally doesn’t waste the ball.

But he’s clearly not ready from a fitness and body view point but do we either fast track him or we go back to the Arty Jones, Anthony Scott types who we know aren’t up to it.
 
It’s probably more unlikely than likely, but it would be great if JJ can hold up for the rest of the year. Our small backs have been a problem this year outside of Dale. Too easy for clubs just to sit on Dale at the moment as our other small backs aren’t offering anything. Not sure what is up with Bramble, but he has been ineffective this year. Last year before his contract he was making some errors but still providing a lot of drive (after his contract he was great). This year just doesn’t seem to be doing much of that. Is he being asked to play the Duryea role more?

He has really improved his run & carry from the limited viewing so far this year.
That will help his chances if he can get more involved in offensive plays.

There are a couple of posters on here that have Buku as their whipping boy. He had 2 very good games and we hear nothing from them. He has 1 okay game and they immediately call for his axing or he has something on Bevo.

Buku has been made to work for every single game and is beginning to flourish and the MC are rewarding him. He deserves his opportunity and is playing his role. He is keeping JOD and Buss out of the backline, which is no mean feat.

Agree. He is dour, fearless and accountable and a good ball user. Not flashy or a line breaker, but we need a replacement for Doc and he looks most likely.

Hopefully Busslinger works his way into the team as a key back with similar traits and surround them with line breaking runners in Dale, Freijah and Jacques eventually.

We have very different definitions of “flourish”. I am hoping Buku can cement a spot in the team but I do not believe it will be as a KPD. I thought he had done ok recently but his efforts to a couple of ground balls in the last game and his new tactic of taking the ball and just standing there upright waiting to be tackled left me shaking my head. I hope he makes it but his latest game was so- so.

He was serviceable against the pies decent against the blues and woeful last week,

The stand up hug the ball tactic was just bizarre haven't seen that since auskick,

As much as he is a good story he is 25 now and has not shown enough to keep getting games especially as a KPD
 
I keep seeing/hearing/reading Buss is doing well in the ressies and keeps pushing for selection

Yet……

Having been away for a few weeks I haven’t been able to see any footy. Anyone know why he is not getting selected?

I think it is purely that he is a kpd and the two spots available are filled by guys doing the job very well ( Lobb is doing exceptionally well and Jones last week aside also performing well). Three kpds makes us too slow so no room for Buss currently. Not sure if Buss is quick or agile enough to play on medium forwards
 
I don't know why people stress so much about Buss playing. He missed heaps of his first year with his shoulder. He's being developed as a full back. That role takes a lot of strength and, bar a few, most take years to develop that. He's developing great in the VFL. Still contracted next season. Regularly in the emergencies. Seems right on track.
