How is there any doubt? I can't see any viable sub candidates other than Stiffy. It's almost guaranteed that he'll be wearing the green bib.

I actually believe that if we are going to be a threat in Sept we need to play Stiffy up forward from the 1st bounce, he adds x factor to our forward line and is such a headache match-up for the opposition

At least the advantage with Johncock as sub is since he can play down back and forward it gives you more options on who to sub off and then where you play him on the field.

I do like the option of Jenkins as the sub this week and then being able to sub Tippett off at 3 quarter time and being able to stick Jenkins as a straight replacement.

I agree and Saturday against Freo showed that

If we're going to do that, may as well start Tip as the sub and give him half to a quarter of the match for some fitness and confidence

Firstly it is very unlikely that hendo will be seen in Crows colours again this year. He is not due to play antwhere until early September but at least he can try to find form with the doggies. Andy Otten and Brodie Martin are no chance since by the time they are ready Sturt and South will be planning mad Monday.

We need to get Stiify match fit. He is a likely to be a candidate for the green vest in the finals but I can't see him being "rested" before then.

I believe we need someone with some pace as well as flexibility. I wouldn't write off Bling at this stage.

I think stiffy is now becoming match fit. I also agree he gives us that x-factor up forward.

I also believe Jenkins could be sub. If things are going well we could even sub Jacobs off and give him a rest in hte run up to finals.

Either way works really, may be better to have Kurt on the field at the end of a game rather than him being in a red vest.

Gee, I'd rather have Johnston in there than Jenkins, I think. Seems a better structure for the forward line, and he can hold it down when Tippett goes into the ruck for 10 mins a quarter.

If stiffy is forward pocket, nothing is stopping us subbing a defender and moving him there.

Would be extremely surprised if any of our talls started with the dreaded green vest. Green vests are almost exclusively reserved for the mid sized players in a side, with coaches much preferring to sub out a tall if required than to sub out a small.

One thing that actually wouldn't surprise me, would be if Jenkins was actually dropped for Tippett this week instead of Johnston. With Tippett back in the side, Jenkins will thankfully no longer need to ruck, as that role will be given to Tippett.

Jenkins has shown what he is capable of as a key forward and whilst he has shown great potential and some even greater highlights, he has struggled to consistently remain involved in the games. Given we know what Jenkins would offer us as our 3rd tall forward and his output is OK but nothing special, I don't think it would be a bad idea to give Johnston a couple of weeks to press his case for the position.

Johnston's first game was okay, he lead up the ground hard and displayed his fine kicking skills, but it was symptomatic of a player playing his first game. With his first game jitters out of the way, I'd like to see what he could produce on a more consistent basis, if its not up to scratch after a week or two then Jenkins could easily be brought back in. At the same time, I feel Jenkins is at the stage of his career where the odd game or two at SANFL level is almost a good thing.

I doubt it will actually happen, likely changes are Tippett and Porps for Johnston and Riley, but just a thought considering Jenkins very limited ability to ruck will no longer be required.

Stiffy has been good over the last two weeks up forward. Would be a kick in the guts to make him sub.
True, but it's going to be a kick in the guts for whoever gets the green bib - given that we're expecting all of our best 22 to be playing.

Forget about having a tall in the green bib. It's not going to happen. Mid-sized players outnumber talls by around 2:1. This means that the odds on player being subbed out are roughly 2:1 in favour of the mid-sized players. Hence, the sub is almost always mid-sized. That pretty much rules out Jenkins.

Johncock is almost the ideal sub. He's capable of playing in both the forward and back lines, providing a degree of flexibility that the coaches love. Being senior and in good form, he's also more likely to adapt quickly to the pace of the game, allowing him to have an impact that few inexperienced players would be likely to achieve.

Then there's his recent record, which shows that Sando is more than happy to give him the green bib (though I do agree that he's fitter now than he was when the green bib was his standard attire).

Really don't want Riley to get the chop. I've liked what I've seen so far and want to give him the opportunity to improve. Having said that, I'm sure he will be dropped if Porps is fit.

Riley has done well given the limited opportunities he's been given. Right now, I'd put him ahead of Knights, Tambling, Symes & Martin. That may be important when it comes to list management time at the end of the season.

Doughty (retired) and Knights, Tambling & Symes (dead men walking) are all certain departures. Then there's a fairly large group of players whom I would consider to be "at risk" - Riley, Martin, Joyce, Johnston, L Thompson and (possibly) McKernan & Johncock. That list is not in any order. How many "at risk" players are shown the door would depend upon the outcome of trade week and just how many draftees the recruitment team want to take onboard - I'd guess that we're looking at 5-7 new draftees (anything less than 5 would surprise me greatly).

I'd still consider bringing Knights back in for the run to the Finals to have one last look at him to decide if in fact he is surplus to our needs at the AFC into the future.

I think that decision has already been made by both parties and I believe that next year Knights will fall even further down the pecking order

IMO Knights has lost the penertration in his kicking and just doesn't seem to be running smoothly across the ground which use to be his strength and is an indicator that his body is struggling to meet the demands of the game

I agree with what you're saying, but I think you took me out of context. When I said "get the chop", I meant dropped, rather than delisted. I would be SHOCKED if Riley was delisted after his performance in the SANFL this year and after getting a call up.

I wouldn't be shocked at either occurrence.

The fact that he's had a call up means nothing - we've used 38 players this year, the only ones to miss out are 1st year draftees who have barely played a SANFL league game between them. That said, Riley has impressed me more in his 2 games than Johnston, Tambling, Knights, Martin, Symes, McKernan and Martin did in theirs. I think he deserves to stay in the team, but not at the expense of one of our best 22 players.
