Changes vs Brisbane

Nice try.. I'm not sure Hawthorn would do that deal, given that Shoenmakers is finally starting to show something this year. I'm also not sure whether or not Johncock will retire (or be retired) - could go either way. It could work out the way you've outlined, but I wouldn't bet on it.

The shoenmakers thing was just a bit of fluff.
I would try to package McKernan and Thompson up, and i think the Hawks would be a good spot for them.

I would be very shocked if both Johncock and Rutten were on the list next year. Rutten has been dreadful in the past month. Talia is our No. 1 back now.

No resting. Adelaide will need all the % they can get.

I'd have to give my vote to Callinan too but he's probably too small to replace a subbed defender. Johncock is probably the most versatile, but is damaging up forward at present.

Glad I don't have to make the selection.

I think we must rest players... It is one area we have a clear advantage. Lets make the most of our soft draw whilst our competitors beat the crap out of eachother in the next few weeks

In - Tippett (the 4 week deal with the AFL has been completed), Porplyzia

Out - Riley, Johnston

This is our best 22 (according to our selectors) and the starting point for our finals selection.

There would still be 38 players expecting or hoping to play in September (Grigg, Ellis-Yolmen and Joyce are dreaming about getting a regular game in the SANFL).

I suspect that McIntyre, Kerridge, Brown, Johnston, Jaensch and Symes have very little chance and Otten, Henderson and Martin will not start playing SANFL until early September (Do Andy and Brodie have to get a run with the Seaton Rambler thirds?)

That leaves seven players who are a chance IMHO if there are injuries or lapses in form. McKernan is the back up ruckmen (I don't even want to contemplate this) and Luke Thompson is the back up tall defender (I expect him to get another game, probably against Melbourne to give Truck a week off). The remaining players could fill in spare spots as small defenders, midfielders or small forwards; Riley, Knights, Tambling, Lynch and Lyons.

Who see it differently?

I think McKernan will probably end up at North Melbourne. I'm not sure Thompson will find too many buyers.

I don't think there's any danger of Rutten retiring or being delisted this year. I do agree with you though that he hasn't had a good month (he was downright ordinary against Geelong) and that Talia is now our #1 KPP defender. On the other hand, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Rutten retire at the end of 2013.

Johncock could go either way. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see both retained, neither would I be surprised to see Johncock bid us all adieu.

Tippett and Johncock need the match fitness, so forget both of them.

Callinan needs match time to get his mojo back.

Doughty, Truck are the old stagers who could do with a rest...

Maybe Vince as the sub, possibly coming on for Thommo or Sloane or Paddy?
Agree - players like Tippett, Stiffy, Callinan, Pets & Mackay who need the match practice should not be starting sub (though Tippett may be subbed off at 3 quarter time if struggling with fitness).

Would look to freshen up a midfielder who has played all year as starting sub like Sloane. Also, look to sub-off Danger, Thompson & Jacobs in the last 3 games to freshen them up (barring no injuries).

Changes vs Brisbane?

Who is responsible for keeping these threads on topic?

Will Talia get first crack at Brown or will Rutten's size and strength give him first crack? Which Lion will Petrenko be set on to tag? Hanley? (For DT purposes, I hope not :p) Do the Lions have a legitimate tagger to run with Thompson? It seems that Brisbane only has Hudson in the ruck at the moment, with other talls chipping in. Would we play Walker and Jenkins/Johnston (one of them as an out this week)as permanent forwards and have Tippett and Jacobs rotate through there? The Lions have too many small forwards to have Doughty or Johncock (needs to be in defence) start as a sub. VB to go to Redden unless Rockliff plays midifeld. In which case, VB to Rockliff, Wright to Redden. If a win is on the cards, have Dangerfield and Thompson play forward and sub off a tall (Jenkins/Johnston). Porplyzia to wait another week, Riley to remain sub and come into midfield rotations when Dangerfield or Thmpson go forward.

IN: Tippett
OUT: Johnston/Jenkins

Interesting question, whilst Talia has certainly been our in form defender, Brown is one player who has typically been Rutten's bread and butter. Players like Brown were what necessitated us finding a full back like Rutten, as such I'd be tempted to give Rutten first shot and keep Talia in reserve playing on whoever else they've got down there.

All sounds good to me, nice analysis.

I don't think so,for mine he "took" one for the team with Crowley harassing him all day, the upside was this allowed Patty and Matthew Wright to take up the slack and dominate. I'm happy for Thommo to play a less dominant role if it means others get off the leash!!!

Yep. They can't all get 30. There just aren't enough midfield possessions available.

Lisle should be their other key forward, and I think Rutten will start on him with Talia taking Brown. Not sure who Shaw will/can match up on? AdelaideFan14, Raines is their No. 1 tagger.

Just out of curiosity, when have players ever been packaged up?
