Nor we should. Our last couple should be about having the best/fittest come round 23. With our last few weeks there is no need to have our best 22 on the park each week.
Exactly right. I can't remember Geelong ever playing their best side until the last round if they have a top 4 spot sewn up. What's the point?

I disagree - purely on the grounds that we need to absolutely stitch that top 2 position up.

I think your right with Lynch, however I think Matty J is a different issue that is his defensive skills are not up to the pass mark

so maybe they should play him forward???

i think he's a good enough player. we just cant fit him in. he can play forward middle or back, it's just he's probably our 4th or 5th best small in each of these possies.

the other Neil Craig special. Jack of all trades, master of none.

This article was in The Australian today. Talks about the Crows' selections over the course of the season and how they have almost deliberately avoided going with 'best 22' during the season.

Crows pack hard-ball clout to muscle up in finals

Round after round, coach Brenton Sanderson makes two or three unforced changes, including this week, when he brought in teenager Luke Brown and Chris Knights for Lewis Johnston and Aidan Riley.

The Crows have made a lie of the adage that settled sides are successful sides.

So what is Sanderson playing at? Either he is yet to decide his best 22 or he is building a formidable pool of battle-ready players.

The evidence is mounting for the latter case.

It's a smart strategy.

Chances are we will finish top two.

But if we don't, I would much rather go into the finals in 3rd or 4th and 100% prepared for the Qualifying Final, then 1st or 2nd and 80% prepared.

I know it's fun to watch our team win but people you need to get real and get your hand off it. It is all about September and if this article is any judge, we WILL be below our best for the next three games. And you should embrace that.

Since the GABBA is the equivalent of de_dust2 id have to pick tex due to him being able to pick off the TS as they run up short. Tex is the teams designated sniper btw
Unfortunately that advice came too late. My hope now lies with Dangerfield rushing mid and taking out most of the team, or possibly the entire team while he's at it

I have no doubt that there is a strategy to it. But, if we take the games lightly, they are just as likely to come up and bite you in the ass. If we miss the top two because we drop one of the games everyone has pencilled in as wins, can you imagine the outcry in here? Maybe only against GC can we afford to rest players, but both Brisbane and Melbourne (on the MCG, Greens last game etc etc) are potential danger games, that if taken lightly, will come back to haunt us.

I hope Knights plays a blinder, looking at his 09 stat average is depressing now.
2.2 goals per game. 4.8 marks. 3.2 tackles and 17.6 disposals.
Thats about on par with Porps 09 season. Wouldnt look right in another teams colours really.

All the signs are there that he will play better. He's had a taste of AFL again, had a sustained run of good form which probably was at its highest in his last game and time without injury. I'm tipping he will. They better not give him the bloody vest.

Think tonight will be the toughest of our last three so no rotating players out etc. Think Danger and Sauce should be given a rest against Melbourne, maybe Sloane as well but he seems pretty durable. Thompson's a beast so I don't think he needs resting.

The way he spoke after the recent Geelong game supports your claim.

Agreed. We definitely didn't go into that game 100% focussed on winning. That's not to say we didn't want or try to win, but we certainly didn't do all that we could (in preparation) to get the points.

It really does feel like we're leaving some tricks up the sleeve for the Sept, which (if true) is effing awesome.
