Seems to me that only a fool would throw out the game plan and Simpsons work on the midfield after just one 10 point loss. If you know anybody who thinks like that maybe you could point them in the right direction.

I can see us starting the season 2 and 8, can we acknowledge that there's a problem then?

You don't, but surely the loss of your two main KPD has to come into your thinking now. If it was me I wouldn't be tanking but I'd definitely have an eye firmly on the future. I'd be dropping Butler and McGinnity for a start, bring back Bennell, upgrade Newman, debut all the kids at some point and play them for at least 3-4 games at a time and push Yeo into the middle and leave him there for a large percentage of most games.

I just don't think "having an eye on the future" involves dropping Priddis, Rosa and Masten after round 1.

The last 7 years isn't enough? Another 10 games is required? Then what? Remove the experience like I suggested? What changes in 10 games? Won't they still be overawed in 10 games if they will be now?

Remember we can put Yeo, Sheed, Shuey, Wellingham in there along with Duggan etc. 3 of those have plenty of experience. One is a premiership player.

No, I never advocated that either (except for my never-ending quest to oust Priddis). I just don't see the value in playing guys like Butler and McGinnity at this point. Agree on Yeo, but I think they should just say screw it and play him in the middle, I really don't see us winning many games this year now with Brown and E-mac out anyway.

You have to hold players accountable. His play was too far off what is required to keep his place regardless of how young or inexperienced he is. If he is made of the right stuff he'll bounce back. If he's not, then no amount of carrying him in the team is going to save him.

Should be given another shot. Lamb dropped lots of marks, do we drop him also? Lycett was awful, drop him as well? Butler, McGinnity; how many do you drop?

It's a new year but the same shit midfield giving us the same result. They will not get better as they have already had over 100 games of experience. People need to pull their heads out of the sand and realise we are going nowhere with our current experienced mids except Shuey. Bring the kids in, start them outside and then rotate them inside a bit more as they get more comfortable. We can easily run the experience of Yeo, Gaff, Wellingham, Shuey, Le Cras & Cripps thru the midfield & forward at times without having to keep using Priddis, Scooter, McGinnity, Rosa etc. Blood the kids now, especially the second and third year players. If they can't cope with the physicality of AFL now they never will.

Never said it was, I've said as much in previous posts all day. In fact as I also said earlier that I think we've left it too late to fix before Kennedy, Lecras, E-mac and co are past their primes.

Shallow and one paced with moderate skills. Need another bull in the mids feeding it out and some classy speed like all the other midfields outside the top 8.

Agreed, we don't have any exceptional mids besides Shuey. I'm sick of seeing our guys plod along behind faster more skillful opposition mids.

Putting a player with pace,height and clearance ability in the defence because you're getting pummeled in the midfield and every ball is coming in at break neck speed just makes no ****ing sense at all.

One the most obvious changes that needs to happen i would've thought.

The recruiting staff have traded in and recruited 9 midfield types in the last 18 months. They have the view to phase these players when ready and this sounds like a plan to me and a recognition that we need to improve in that is department.

Exactly. The more you control the ball through the midfield contests the less your defence has to do to save the game. Most of our goals came from our defence hitting targets up through the centre and our forwards capitalising. This was after our mids had been smashed so the ball was in the Dogs forward line.

That's the point isn't it though, this recognition has come far too late to be any good to us.

I'm losing confidence in Simpson, he's done some good things like changing our game plan, but then keeps playing the same old plodders in the same old positions. It hasn't worked in the past so what makes him think it's going to work now?
