If we're looking for a novel solution to our problems

IN: Schofield, McInnes, Ellis
OUT: Brown, Sheed, Butler

Offers us greater flexibility and we can still swing Yeo and Wellingham up the ground on occasion.

And people are still wanting him out. Look, i'm not a Mcginnity lover by any stretch, but he played good tonight and if you can't see that then you obviously don't understand footy. He'll play this week, and i'll hazard a guess that he'll be tagging Kade Simpson the exact same way as he did with Murphy tonight..
^^^ agreed. McGinnity out is just a default position it seems. See the forest from the trees, he played well today.

Have you guys considered Lamb playing defence? It might be a bit soon to throw a thin kid down into a defensive unit especially when he doesn't play there full time but given your predicament and Schofield looking unlikely - it could be worth a shout. He played down there pretty well as a junior and has the tank to go with AFL players; certainly elite for a junior in terms of endurance - both in repeat bursts and long distances. Not only that but he's a good height, athletic and has enough mongrel in him. And he's done it before. I'd be thinking McInnes/McGovern to Jones/Henderson but given Carlton will have one of White/Cripps/Everitt/Bell down forward who need a taller matchup - perhaps Lamb is your guy for that; not a Yeo type. Especially if, as I expect they will, they bring in the extra tall in Casboult. Don't know much about Barrass/Powell but I do think you'll need more than just McGovern and McInness down there to counter Casboult/Jones/Henderson/3rd tall (everitt/bell/cripps) unless you're okay with a brutal mismatch.

Just an outsider's view - sorry if it's out of place!

Think most people here welcome posts from others, no need to apologise.

Regarding Lamb down back, while I think he has the endurance and aggression to play there, I feel that he might not be strong enough. He isn't the hulking teen that Darling was when he arrived at the club, in time he will (hopefully) fill out and have significance physical presence, but I think he might struggle against someone who has had several more pre seasons.

I would rather see him start on the wing or through the middle rather than risking him being beaten up down back.

I'd also play the smallest player on the ground on Casboult for two reasons: he will beat most in marking contests, the chances he'll kick a goal is generally around 3% :D

There is no way Sheed should be dropped after tonight at all. Sure he didn't have his best game but I think he worked his way into the game nicely and got 15 touches in the second half. I thought he looked like somebody who was adjusting to the high pace of the game in the first half and he adjusted nicely in the second half. His skills were not clean, but I don't think that is usually an issue for him and it was more to do with the pressure of a high intensity game. I think some people forget the guy is still only a 19 year old who has played 10 games, mostly as the sub. Give him a decent run at it and then make a judgement on him.

Out: Brown, Butler, Rosa
In: Schofield (failing that, Barass), Duggan, Bennell

If you'd asked me before today, McGinnity on the list for sure - but, at the risk of being murdered, can anyone really fault his game today? Did a job on Murphy for 3 out of 4 quarters imho.
We can't afford to have 4 players having less than 10pos. It's like your opponent having an extra player. All well and good having a tagged but they need to be able to get the ball too

We fell down finding someone across half forward apart from Cripps and Kennedy. McGinnity needs to provide an option

While I'd normally be happily camped on the "Get McGinnity away from the AFL ASAP" bandwagon, if you want selection to reward performance, you just can't after tonight's effort. He did a good job of reducing Murphy's output and preventing more than a couple of damaging runs off half back. We need to set precedents - do your job, you get selected and after tonight, he should play next week (the second he messes up though...get him out!)

That said, also after tonight, can people stop using the word "fast" when describing McGinnity. He. Is. Not. Fast. He was beaten in foot races by a near 33 year old Murphy on numerous occasions tonight, and Murphy by his own admission isn't the quickest player going around. McGinnity is not fast.

What's his role next week? Does he tag Yarran. :|

Sub: Sheppard

Goodbye Rosa, Priddis, Butler, McGinnity

Out: Brown, Butler, McGinnity, Wellingham

In: Schofield, Ellis, Newman, Bennell

FB: Ellis - McGovern - Nelson
HB: Hurn - Schofield - Sheppard
C: Gaff - Shuey - Rosa
HF: LeCras - Kennedy - Bennell
FF: Newman - Lycett - Cripps

Versatile with lots of backward of Center rotations on offer. Bennell, Newman and Ellis add firepower and skill that missing from our side today.

Because being shit without progress is the only cardinal sin a coach can make.

Who honestly thinks McGinnity will get dropped after today's game? At least he played his role for the majority of the game...

If you want to get rid of someone, get rid of one of our inside mids who are slow, always go backwards etc etc and bring in Duggan. Sheed, i'm looking at you..

Does he have a role this week?

Does his role represent a structural deficit?

McGinnity made no play of his own and did nothing to prevent the dogs rebounding brilliantly. McGinnity is defending against the inevitable and we would be better being offensive and playing someone who isn't a paperweight.

Is Newman a serious consideration? I understand Simo said he has a clean slate and all, but he's played about 6 quarters of competitive footy in two years, would they really have him in the 22 that quickly?

Plus, after McGoverns game today, why wasn't his brother drafted??

We took Lamb at 32, Mitch McGovern was taken with 43.

Who would you prefer?

Totally agree

May have kept Murphy reasonably quiet but if you have zero impact in terms of doing something constructive whats the point. Would much rather we give Newman a game as another dangerous forward as he also gave good defensive pressure when playing for East Perth yesterday

Said in the presser he was in consideration iirc. Its kind of hard to ignore the game he had on the weekend. However there are parts where he can still improve

McGinnity was average at best. Murphy still had 18 touches and 13 kicks which is about average for him so it's not like McGinnity totally shut him out of the game, plus the less said about the few times McGinnity actually had the ball the better.

Both he (McGinnity) and Selwood need to have defined roles in the team. Selwood had 19 touches and as usual did nothing with them. He 'tagged' Bontempelli who had 22 touches, kicked a goal and was one of their best. Is he in the side as a tagger or what? He doesn't give us enough IMO.
