^ Agree with Scotland.

I'd give Sheed another game. dajesmac I'm with you in regards to Dom, but i'd rather give him at least one more crack before bringing in someone who's just as slow and unimpressive in Colledge. We haven't given our youth enough consistency in the past, he should get more than sub par game. By the way, Cripps says hi.

Outs - Butler, Mcginnity, Brown
Ins - Bennell, Lucas, Schofield

Lamb a full game next week, Lucas to sub.

What are you talking about I've always been a huge Cripps fan?

Fair enough on Dom. Couldn't really care less to be honest between him and Colledge as the production would probably be similar.

McGinnity did what he always does, ran around like a chook with his head cut off and then sprayed the ball when he got it. He didn't keep Murphy quiet at all. Just because the team uses other options on the way out of defence a few times doesn't mean McGinnity has kept Murphy quiet. Murphy was still very influential in that win, just as Scooter isn't a taggers arseh*le either, getting pantsed by a 2nd year player.
We need to play Sheed, Newman, Colledge, Duggan, Cavka (when ready) and get games into these kids to see if they will be worth hanging onto, even if we lose a shitload of games this year to do it. This year needs to be about development to fast track a midfield that can let us make use of the great spine we normally have, before they get past it.

Would love to have Bennell, Schofield and Ellis in- start getting some continuity into that back 6/7 who are going to have a tough year.

Need to be ruthless on the mids, we've got a bunch playing in the WAFL that need to get a shot at some stage. Maybe this early isn't the time to do it but I don't think Sheed, Priddis, Wellingham, Gaff, Rosa, Scooter or Masten played acceptable games today. We have to demand more from them or replace a few.

McGinnity offers his usual. I'd like to see Newman in for him sooner rather than later.

Same story isn't it though Quinz. Every one of our midfielders is shit/vanilla/B grade/not a match winner apart from Shuey.

Whatever pick we end up with this year (should be top 9) i really hope we don't trade it for Coniglio, and bring in the best young DAMAGING midfielder we can to compliment Naitanui.

You can't help but think with just one Bontempelli/Dangerfield/Gray/Fyfe type impact player through there we'd be a 5 goal better side with the service they would get from NN.

You're right in that our first pick needs to be the mid with the highest ceiling, not the consistent accumulator. That or aggressively trade for one or get it through free agency. Chuck a few mil at Danger and see if anything sticks.

Our recruiters are gold at picking rucks and talls, but they haven't drafted a game breaking mid for a long time. Not that there's many around, but every other club seems to have one or two. We have Shuey who is great but not outstanding, and the rest are role players ranging from good to mediocre. I value what Priddis brings in the middle, Gaff on the outside and Masten in space etc. but they all have flaws that get exposed.

Still, I liked what I saw of the gameplan today. Aggressive through the middle, quick overlap means our mids don't have to pinpoint passes in a congested forward 50. I can see a structure, and Simpson will continue to prune the players that can't adapt to it.

Which is bizarre because its the other way around for every other team in the comp really. I think trading a mid in would be our best go gold coast have alot of west aussies and not all will get game time it will be interesting to see who kicks up a stink first.

Didn't we trade in a bloke from Brisbane to add some pace to our pedestrian midfield?

Wednesday: "This game will be won and lost in the midfield" Brady Rawlings
Thursday: Bennell to WAFL , Yeo to defence
Friday: Gee Bennell was good. Lucky our senior team is so full of silky dashers we can't fit Bennell in.
Saturday: "Our midfield got smashed" Adam Simpson

Next Wednesday: This game will be won and lost in the midfield
Next Thursday: Out: Some fringe player In: Ellis.

Should drop one of the mainstays to make a point this week to be honest.

Our bests from the west coast site:

West Coast: Hurn, Priddis, Shuey, Cripps, Masten

No mention of Gov or Naita? How does Priddis get in there? He was deplorable. Also, a very innocuous 30 touch game from Masten.
McGovern was hands down our best. Priddis, Shuey and Masten all dubious selections. Top four were McGovern, Nic Nat, Cripps and Hurn in my opinion. Let's not name a fifth best as it would imply that someone else earned recognition above the rest.

Outs:
Brown
McGinnity (yes he did a job! but better to see someone do a job and be at least a little damaging the other way)
Butler (don't think we can have him and Nelson in the same side at the moment, and would rather keep the young guy)

Ins:
Schofield (obvious replacement for brown if fit)
Mcinnes (if schofield not fit)
Bennell (offers more dash than Butler)
Newman (surely earned a call up and offers far more than McGinnity)

Would love to see Duggan and Colledge rewarded for form in WAFL but don't want Sheed to be dropped. Sheed was very poor in the first half and was way too slow to off load in the second when he got it. But he gets his hands on the ball and we need to give him the opportunity to rebound. There are a couple others I wouldn't mind seeing left out instead, but don't think there would be any appetite to do so.

It wouldn't be just to make a point.

It would be because after about 100 games and being giving enormous opportunity, the combination of Priddis, Shuey, Selwood, Masten, Rosa and Gaff has proven beyond doubt that it is not good enough to win enough games of AFL football and therefore must be changed immediately and permanently.

If this combination is allowed to dominate midfield minutes this season, Simpson must be sacked.

I don't know how much quicker he can really remedy the situation? We're 1 season and 1 game into his term, and he's done a pretty good job just to declutter the game plan. Drafting is going in a way that makes sense too. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater hey?

We don't have to drop all those players. It may only take one or two changes, but the aforementioned combination has proven without doubt they are not good enough.

In: Ellis,Schoey,Bennell, Newman, Colledge, Tunbridge, Duggan
Out: Butler,Brown, Mcginnity, Priddis, Rosa, masten, scooter

Ellis Mcgovern Nelson
Shep. Schoey. Hurn

Bennell. Sheed. Gaff

lecras. jk. Lamb
Cripps. Lycett newman

Ruck nic nat shuey yeo

Bench Wellingham colledge Tunbridge.

Sub Duggan

The second and third year fringe guys have a year to prove they can make it in the top grade, with the younger guys like Waterman, Cavka, Duggan, Lamb, Nelson, Karps etc coming in and out of the side based on fitness & rest requirements. Play Colledge, Tunners, Newman, Bennell, Cripps through the midfield, wing and forward positions to find out what they've got. The guys who have been part of our slow, soft, shit skills midfield for the last 5 years or more can play WAFL unless they're needed. It's not about winning a heap of games, it's about finding a decent midfield to give us a real shot at a premiership while our spine is still good enough.

Simpson was not justified in throwing the Lamb to the dogs. Simpson admitted he didn't know what he was going to get with Lamb. This is hardly professional coaching. Let Lamb develop in the WAFL. We also need a CHF. We have McInnes or Sinclair. Simpson was also far too cute in not picking Schofield. Everyone on this board was dubious about Brown.

Simpson should also teach players to tackle and how to handle tackles. Dogs escaped tackles with ease with multiple players waiting to take the ball. I think the dogs got 4-5 goals from free kicks within 20 metres of goal; was that tackling? What was going on? This was the game really. You can't give away that sort of advantage in a tight game.

So next week McInnes/Sinclair and Schofield if fit. In any case we are missing players who can tackle properly.

I feel that despite our defensive injury crisis, we need to bite the bullet and play yeo exclusively in the middle. We're not contending for anything so throw the defenders to the wolves. could be the making of a few.
Yep if half of Freos back line was injured they wouldnt play Fyfe down back so why do we do it with Yeo. Find someone else like rosa Or someone from Wafl
