Preview Changes Vs Carlton Round 2

It seems like an upgrade for the hell of it. Even if he is doing well in the WAFL we know he isn't going to improve our side. Newman, on the other hand, has the potential to. Hopefully he gets upgraded shortly.
Can't believe we drafted another Vanilla Spud.

So we delisted a Vanilla Razzle Dalzzle to recruit Lucas, another vanilla midfielder, a year later.

Makes sense, I can see the Master Plan unfolding at our club:)

Out: Brown (curse), McGinnity

In: Schofield, Duggan

B: Butler, McGovern, Sheppard
HB: Hurn, Schofield, Yeo
C: Rosa, Priddis, Gaff
HF: LeCras, Kennedy, Masten
F: Cripps, Lycett, Lamb
R: Naitanui, Shuey, Selwood
I: Wellingham, Nelson, Sheed
S: Duggan
E: McInnes, Bennell, McGinnity

Don't see the need to make wholesale changes for round 2. Back in the guys like Sheed and Lamb to improve as they get used to the increased pace of the game.

Butler holds his spot for another week. Hope like hell Schofield is ready to go, Carlton don't have great key forwards but they might bring in Casboult and he, Henderson and Jones will cause big problems.

Duggan in since East Perth have a bye. Bad timing, a few guys could use a run.

My God that's a centre lineup that sparks no fear for anyone, ever.

Swap Butler for Bennell and I reckon that's about right.

You obviously rate our midfield. How is that turning out?

I'd like to put Jack Martin and Robbie Gray in there but it's not possible sadly.

I've left Sheed in the 21 despite calls for his head in this thread, and brought Duggan into the side, both with a view to building it for the future. Yeo I think is stuck down back now.

What would you do to fix the problem in six days?

Swap Butler for Bennell and I reckon that's about right.

Would like to get Bennell in, but wanted to (a) not make too many changes and (b) leave another experienced head in the backline given the personnel issues we've got back there now.

It isn't going to be fixed in 7 days. But doing nothing is never going to fix it.
Start this week by dropping Priddis, Rosa and Masten and playing kids. Duggan, Colledge, Yeo in the centre and bring in Barass.
The result won't be any different but at least we will be one game closer to having a better midfield or finding out if they are shit and going back to the draft.
Staying with the same is just repeating the same shit...it's madness.

Edit: I heard a story once about how they test if someone is no longer insane. Turn the water on in the laundry and let the sink overflow, give the patient a mop bucket and tell him to mop up and see if he has the common sense to turn off the tap first. If he does he is ready for society again and if he doesn't, well more treatment is necessary.
I think we need to turn the tap off and clean up the mess of our midfield but if we keep playing the same midfield and expect to clean up we are insane.

The result would be different, it'd be a big Blues win. Our side was less experienced than the Bulldogs yesterday and you want to drop 450 games of experience and bring in 2. That's madness. Refer to the Demons 2008-2014 for what happens when you lose all your experience at once.

Look how good that experience served us. Is it ALL our experience?

It's like beating a dead horse. The ****ing thing is dead. Our midfield is dead. No life, kaput, Nyet, over finished no breath, twice dead plucked up by the roots. shit. Horrible, useless. ****ED.
And you want to keep going with the same. Good stuff right there, you go man. Awesome.

Bring on the ashes...

Zero value in playing guys who aren't physically or mentally ready yet just for the sake of it. Will probably kill their confidence for starters. Plus you get guys like Sheed who have an off game in Round One and immediately face calls for their head. I'm all for a rebuild but it has to be done in a measured way.

Out: Brown Mcginnity
In: Schofield Ellis

Int: Lycett Rosa Nelson Sub: Sheed

No. I want to pump games into Sheed and Duggan, and Waterman later in the year. I also want Wellingham to spend more time in the middle and Priddis to block more and be less of a target for Naita and Lycett's taps.

What I don't want is, after the season is one week old, to drop our three most experienced mids, one of whom is the reigning Brownlow Medallist and runner up B&F, another of whom was in career best-form in the first half of last year, to bring in a bunch of kids, some of whom are clearly not ready.

Your logic would be sound if we were at least competitive against the better sides but we were smashed by a bottom eight side.
The bulldogs have a midfield unit that is far younger than ours and bomtempelli has a handful of games and yet they exposed our experienced midfield badly.
You under rate the possibility of youth and the passion they have to prove themselves.
All we have now is complacency that no matter what they deliver they are untouchable.

10 points is a smashing?

Youth can have all the passion they like but again, look to Melbourne to show how throwing 'passionate' young kids to the wolves fares.
You can quote the score line and twist my words. You are renowned for it. I was referring to our midfield and you know it.
But go ahead and misquote all you want. I am used to it, it is a talent you excel at.
You still haven't addressed how the bulldogs young midfield defies your statement. They are young and tore our experienced unit apart. Smashed us in contested possessions and clearances.

On the score though, you do know they had 10 more scoring shots than us. Their poor kicking and our good conversion stopped it being a 6-10 goal win.

Surely you won't let your desire to troll cloud your intelligence will you five.
You do know we were smashed in the midfield, something Simpson said we need to improve. Our midfield.

If you call me a troll again you can have a holiday. I'm sick of it to be frank.

Were we smashed in the middle? Haven't seen the stats, didn't seem like it watching the game. It was a high-paced even game that we ended up on the wrong side of.

I've said what I'd do to start to fix the midfield. Focus on Shuey more and Priddis less at taps, give Sheed and Duggan some time in there, use Wellingham in there more. Not drop 450 games of experience in Priddis, Rosa and Masten after one bad game in favour of Colledge and Duggan.

It's round 2, the team has spent six months getting together its plan for the season. You don't throw that out and start tanking after one loss FFS.

I can't believe that people want bruise free Bennell in the team. He was worst on ground in both Derbies last year and in the 2nd Derby he was clearly targeted by Mayne and Ballantyne and he capitulated. After that game Simpson immediately dropped him back to the WAFL where he belongs.

The harsh reality is that Sheppard is a Bennell clone and also can't handle pressure, Stringer smashed Sheppard last night. In one passage of play Stringer grabbed the ball off Sheppard threw him to the ground and as Sheppard lay on the ground Stringer ran away and kicked inside 50. If you are a skinny outside player who can't handle physical contact you need to be a very quick runner with great disposal like a Stephen Hill. Bennell and Sheppard are not Stephen Hill they are list cloggers like Josh Hill.

Other list cloggers that played last night include the gutless embarrassing Wellingham, the ineffective Masten and Rosa, Selwood who can't tag properly and has no offensive side to his game, the putrid Priddis and a few others as well.

Now of course I am not saying that we drop all those players next week as the players we have got at East Perth like Hill, Karpany and Lucas are complete trash, what I am saying is that we have to accept we are a bottom 4 team that is rebuilding the rebuild that we started at the end of 07. As the season progresses and the heat goes out of the games we can bring in a few kids like Duggan and Newman and Cavka and Maginness when they are fit but at the moment we need to take the losses that are coming our way including a Derby smashing and not overreact after every bad game and drop half the team and make silly mindless calls like lets give Bennell another chance.

So it is a simple change for me : IN - McInnes Out - Brown

Seems to me that you are ready to drown the kids any way. Game 2....the objective should still be to win games.

Bollocks

He's inherited a shit midfield, that some on here picked up on 5 years, that aren't going anywhere.

The fact you questions why there were 2 x debutants leads me to believe that you too overrate this list, together with the paid professionals at our club.

I applaud Simmo in having 2 x debutants. In fact, here's hoping we debut even more. Debut the whole **** lot of them in the next few weeks,

Because our bunch of no hoper midfielders (spineless butchers) will never get the job done.

The debutantes weren't midfielders. Maybe in time.

Agree on Bennell, has skills but attacks the ball and often ens up in no mans land and is slow to get back and guard space. Seemed to work on doing this in last WAFL game. Time will tell but he is not the novice we need in an already depleted defence.

Your comment on Sheppherd verces Stringer is the one that baffles me. Stringer is 193cm and 91 kg while Sheppherd is 186 and 82 and will beat Shep in a test of strength nine times out of 10. Stringer isn't exactly a dunce either.

You don't, but surely the loss of your two main KPD has to come into your thinking now. If it was me I wouldn't be tanking but I'd definitely have an eye firmly on the future. I'd be dropping Butler and McGinnity for a start, bring back Bennell, upgrade Newman, debut all the kids at some point and play them for at least 3-4 games at a time and push Yeo into the middle and leave him there for a large percentage of most games.

Yeah. Hows that going right now?
You and I will both know that after the next ten games. I am sure glad that the coach isn't a panic merchant like someone on this thread.

Seems to me that only a fool would throw out the game plan and Simpsons work on the midfield after just one 10 point loss. If you know anybody who thinks like that maybe you could point them in the right direction.

Based on Simmo's presser - I think Nelson looks like he has a spot for a while, whilst Lamb may have been overawed

Carlton have Henderson, Jones and Casboult.

Sheed's second half involved 15 touches - reckon he stays.

However I think Butler makes way for Ellis if fit.
