Be interesting to see how the SANFL team does.

Wright is obviously the play in the gun because he was subbed out.
Restrict a team to 7 goals and you don't change the defence unless you absolutely have to.

Is it possible that Pets comes in for Wright? He's gotten the nod before Grigg and Lyons before, especially looking at a small forward/defensive/pressure role. That said I do like the idea of Grigg up forward playing a Tom Lynch kind of lead up game. He's got the leg for it but I'm not sure about the tank.

I'd go unchanged with Wright starting as sub possibly. I think the reason Grigg has been dropped is due to his defensive side of the game (he hasn't set the world on fire in getting the ball recently though either). We have enough class in the midfield already IMO, need a few more 'grafters' like Wright.

Well done on a great win last night. Was terrific to see you get the 4 points against the Pies in front of what looked an unbelievable crowd at Adelaide Oval. :thumbsu:

Just on this one, that's not really correct. Had you said "Casboult. One of the worst kicks you're ever likely to see at AFL level", you would have been spot on. Casboult has a glaring deficiency to his game, that being his kicking for goal, but immobile he most certainly is not. He actually has very good mobility for a player of his size.

Have to agree with that. If somebody can teach him to kick, he'll be a very handy forward.

Unchanged. Laird or Wright sub, preferably Laird for AFL fantasy reasons.

There was not one weak link last night. Have to reward that.

Maybe... Don't want to go too tall though... And hes been overall pretty underwhelming for a couple weeks
Not letting a couple of shiny instances blind me...

shiny instances is what you get from young/inexperienced players. especially the taller blokes. this is what they build on do more often as they gain more experience. do you expect him to come in and be perfect for 100% of the time. we don't even get or expect that from our 200 game players, or 199 as the case may be.

think with carlton not generally playing a lot of tall forwards combined with pods' good result down back, the only likely change is truck getting a match-up rest this week. whether that results in reilly coming back in as a straight swap or a lyons or grigg, is up for argument. we tend to be a little simplistic at selection, so if truck is rested, my money would be on reilly playing his 200th.

Good position to be in this week.

Big win, all 22 played with massive intent.

Wouldn't mind going in unchanged.

As another poster said - Casboult is a good matchup for Truck, with Henderson being taken by Talia and Hartigan on Waite.

People being a bit harsh on Hartigan - its easy to forget he is a 22yr old KPD who has less than 10 AFL games to his name. That handball was an absolute howler, but he beat Jessie White overall. Need to keep pumping games into him.

If we can eventually get JJ, Lynch, Bets and CC roaming around in the same forwardline that's a crap load of pace and movement! Wouldn't be easy to defend.

Its frustrating that Lynch is out injured for so many weeks too. Given he has broken the jaw about two weeks ago, he probably may be starting some light running I would imagine.

I believe we should stick with Hartigan and get games and development into him. Once he gains confidence and improves his decision making and disposal he will be very handy player.

Agree with this

IMO it's just composure for Hartigan.... He was a little anxious early which caused the errors but once he settled he was very good IMO

Absolutely what I was going to suggest. :thumbsu:

I think Wright needs a spell. He hasn't been terrible or anything, but I think Lyons' work in close and Grigg's elite leg offer more at the present time. Grigg and Lyons to battle it out in the reserves for a spot if I was in charge. There's probably a 60% chance Wright keeps his spot though.

Hartigan has been VERY shaky in the last 3 games, especially in first quarters for whatever reason. In fact, I'd go as far to say that his last 3 first quarters have been absolutely shambolic! If Otten plays well on the weekend, he comes back in. That might be a big 'if' though because he's (Otten) been putrid for the last couple of games now. I guess Shaw is in the frame here too, but I'm just not a fan and wouldn't trust his disposal in the swirly environment that is the MCG.

Martin deserves to stay in after his performance last night. Was pleasantly surprising to see him show some poise in a few key moments.

Crouch stays in and is NOT the sub against Carlton.

It's hard to pick who we should give the vest to, but in all likelihood it will be Wright if he holds his spot, and if Wright does make way, either his replacement (Lyons / Grigg) or poor old Brodie will get the bib.

Just a note on Rutten - I think even he'd admit that he didn't have his best night last night and lost a few one on ones that he normally wouldn't. However, it was his first game back at the top level for a month or so, and I think his experience is invaluable down there. Definitely stays in ahead of Hartigan fo mine. I don't think we can get away with playing all 3 of Talia, Rutten and Hartigan against too many forward lines though. The lack of pace and creativity will inevitably become an issue.

Fail to see how Otten can be considered until he puts a selection worthy performance on the board

Firstly, red card yourself for that Petrenko comment.

Secondly, the Grigg idea has some merit. He does have the tank, skill, smarts, no slower than Lynch. Obviously his marking won't be so great but i guess the idea is to get uncontested marks primarily. Not sure it's an opening for him but this idea a 1000x better than your first one!!

Wright and Truck are my biggest concerns for very different reasons

Wright is just not having an impact and for a player who is not quick or does not have a penetrating leg he needs to be getting to contest after contest to keep his spot in the team, I'm not convinced that he is working hard enough....

Rutten just doesn't look right and combine this with Carlton lack of quality talls I would rest Truck and get him right

Absolutely we do!! Hartigan would have to play an absolute howler or 3 for me to consider he should be dropped.

How do we think our defensive unit will look in 2015? Unless we recruit a Frawley type then Hartigan is an absolute must.

People that want Hartigan dropped are you crazy? Do you even footy?

Guy is doing a brilliant job as a KPD for such an inexperienced player. It's fantastic that we have him to take up the slack when Truck finishes up.

Has real AFL qualities in his speed and marking ability. Firmly best 22 I doubt he gets dropped ever again lock him in for the next 10 years.

Great post

Not to mention even better signs that he didn't start well but had the strength to bury that and comeback strongly

Character comes in many forms and it's a good sign of Hartigan's character and mental strength that he was able to bounce back strongly

We have had to many players totally dropping their heads after a mistake, with Hartigan I'm happy that we have a player that regardless of the error he has the confidence to get back in the game and compete

I don't really understand the calls for Wright to be dropped, his tackling and defensive pressure up forward was outstanding and he had some very handy touch plays that produced a score. Having said that I'd find it impossible to justify dropping anyone after last night.

I agree not the sort of bloke that is really noticed but he always tackles hard and does the 1%ers well

My mate and I were discussing the sub last night and thought Rutten should have come off at the beginning of the last. His straight line speed is barely faster than a present day Darren Jarman. If Otto is fit this week I bring him in as he offers more flexibility.
