Hoon played more half back rather than outside mid.

So we played eight defenders. And dropped Westhoff back at times to make 9.

And some wonder why we get smashed.

I've always been reasonable and objective when it comes to players. If Moore comes in and has two shit games in a row, he deserves to be dropped. I've never once said he'll save our season, or that he's Wines, Wingard or Russell Ebert. He's just a player on the fringe who deserves the same chances as everyone else, which is all I've ever called for.

But I am enjoying your little meltdown about him, like I have a vested interest in his fortunes.
Joyus times. I'm enjoying your little tantrums over every selection too. Keep up the goodwork.

Why is nobody suggesting Jonas? He's been bad all year and getting worse.

I remember him regularly out bodying key forwards like Walker and Kennedy - now he's rag dolled by any midsized forward - and don't even get me started on his kicking.

To be honest he's playing like a guy struggling through OP. Desperately needs a spell.

Jonas is very much under the pump. Is Clurey going to be trusted yet is the only issue. I'm not about to say it's only Carlton Clurey should be ok. It's a tough call but Jacko comes in for one of them I'd rather drop Jonas and be nervous about Clurey than leave Jonas in the side.

If we can't win in the AFL might as well kick the shit out of some SNAFL sides and get some silverware. Throw this season in the skip.

I'm all for giving Harvey a crack if he's ready but i thought the general consensus was he doesn't have the tank for AFL at present.

Edit: **** it the seasons shot can always sub him out

For Carlton to win, it will be as simple as copy, paste and execute the same game plan that has been exploited against us this season.

The challenge for Hinkley is to work out a new game plan that will counter this tactic.
Unfortunately the new tactic involves kicking and marking which we totally suck this year.

We would have to rate as the worst contested and uncontested marking team in the league this season.
Lobbe is completely useless in the air and it is even more frustrating when he gets out marked without even an spoiling attempt.

If the boys are serious about reviving the season, maybe they should do more basic skills training over the mid season break.

OUT: S.GRAY (x1000), White, Young, Stewart, Clurey
IN: Amon, Ah Chee, Moore, Harvey, Trengove

If Ryder is fit replace Harvey with him.

What Kenny will actually do
OUT: S.Gray, White
IN: Neade, Mitchell

So we played eight defenders. And dropped Westhoff back at times to make 9.

Everyone played halfback at some point.

I used to think the calls for netballesque zones were kneejerk and premature, but the game has devolved into basketball with all 36 players at one end of the field following play.

It's horrific to watch and we're terrible at it to boot.

Meh. What I hope will happen is unlikely. Ken is showing Choco levels of stubborness and refusing to admit the team balance, especially inside / outside players is off.

What I'd do (any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental), assuming Ryder is out till after the bye:

Outs : Stewart, White, S. Gray, Young, Hoon
Ins : Trengove, Amon, Moore, Ah Chee, Neade

Now the Hoon wasn't bad, but we're HBF city and we need big bodies desperately. Stewart has been average, I'd push Clurey up for running with the oppositions biggest mid. And bloody leave at least one of Westhoff or Schulz in the forward 50 at all times.

S. Gray I get we need a small forward to lock it in as we've been leaking rebound 50's out of our forward line like a 70 yr old with an incontinent bladder, but Neade actually plays that role.

Young has failed to grasp his chance. White going out early tonight was a chance for him to play most of the game and lock in a spot before we had to cut players to make way for Ryder and Trengove and he didn't grasp it. In fact he took it, and kicked it out on the full.

Amon comes in for White as we are not only having shit disposal, we looked 2013 slow once White went off.

When Ryder is back, Lobbe would drop out for at least a couple of weeks unless he has a major turnaround in form. And when Krak is back then whoever is performing worst of Broadbent, Pittard or Jonas would make way (on 2015 form that'd be Jonas). Either that if he comes in Neade drops out and Krak spends time up forward as that desperately needed forward who can prevent the easy rebounds.

Ken doesn't do wholesale changes though and is a 'tinker at the edges guy'. It'll probably be Clurey and Young out for Mitchell and Trengove.

I'd like to see the non contributing forwards out, ie S Gray, Stewart.
Replace them with genuine midfielders, leave Wingard and R Gray forward more often.

So I'd lose White and S Gray, bring in Moore and AhChee.
Stewart for Ryder.
Yes less pacy, but lets just beat Carlton on the inside and forward class like an actual team would.
Flash doesn't win you crap (unless someone like Polec who can do both).

Great post. I don't think Ryder will come up though so Stewart gets a reprieve but he needs to start contributing more.

I'd also like to see one of Hartlett or Westhoff go due to their poor efforts but I don't think it will happen. On notice also is Jonas

More than happy to back Stewart into the Geelong game along with SGray and Young. They preformed their role in our last 2 wins and deserved their shot against a contender. They didn't deliver against Geelong they are out someone else gets a shot. No good leaving them in against Carlton having them look ok there and failing against Collingwood. All three are out for now. Back in the queue.

Out:
Stewart - As best I can tell he's playing KPF decoy. Why? He plays HBF at SANFL level. Why not just pick Harvey or Butcher? Failed experiment
Gray - I'm not really sure what needs to be said. Would need to have the game of his life to have a genuine influence, but at the same time isn't really a role player. Another player who is played out of position at AFL level compared to SANFL.
Young - Zero consistency. Just absolutely goes missing for ages from games
Hoon - Not the worst, but we have heaps of halfbacks and he carried his reasonable but not spectacular form into the AFL
White - Injured

In:
Ryder (or Harvey if he's still not right)
Neade - If we want a small forward, Neade brings so much more than grey. Even when he goes into the middle.
Ah Chee - We need more big bodies around the stoppages instead of 1000 flankers
Moore - Ditto
Amon - Like for like with white, basically

Harvey I'm thinking would be a Hail Mary call can't see it happening Redden would be more likely. We would lose nothing on what Lobbe delivered against Geelong. The Magpies game is interesting though if Harvey kicks a bag.

What we need is a genuine midfielder that can run both ways and is able to kick, plus a genuine, and repeat genuine, crumbing forward. Form at SANFL optional but not a necessity..
No more hybrids as we already have Wingard and Gray.

EDIT: Plus Mitchell as the sub.

Ken doesn't know his best 22 so how the **** are we meant to? Why has Ah Chee not had a full game to show his wares and why is Moore yet to play? Why has Young been preferred to them both despite failing miserably on his second and third chances? Why is Gray favoured over Neade or dare I say it, Mitchell and even Amon.
