Someone was supposed to be standing in a hole at least twice yesterday when Zeibell lead across the fifty, marked and kicked the goal.

I'm not sure changing the defensive structure too much will help.
Ibbo, d.Pearce or sheriden?

Taberner could take a leaf out of Fyfe's book (we all could) with poise and positioning in the front line. Not one of his marks were strongly contested, he just held off his man and plucked the mark when the time was right. Fyfe is so amazing he could sacrifice a brownlow for a Coleman this year.

I remember when he kicked the ball in forward 50 to Barlow (whom goaled) and he actually fist pumped BEFORE Barlow had even marked it. The confidence in his timing and accuracy is freakish.

Taberner won't ever develop even close to that level - he may become handy in the score assists, find the ball and palm it to the small forward or midfielder who runs in the goal. Persevere with him for a few more weeks.

Yeah I get where you are coming from. Ibbo is a bit off so far this season. But he's still our best intercept marker. Despite the problems I still think our team is better with Ibbo in it, so would play Hughes and Ibbo together personally - at least for the moment. If Hughes takes the pressure off Ibbo then maybe that might help Ibbo get his bearings and elite (or at least close to) kicking back in swing. Ibbo had so much impact on our games last year - we need to back him to get back to form.

We're not far away really. In the last fortnight we've been right in the game in the final term against last years preliminary finalists with Ibbo, Johnson and Hill in terrible form and Mundy, Bennell and Sandilands out of the side. That's probably 6 of our 10 most important players either not playing or not performing and too much is being left to Fyfe, Pav and Walters.

We're going to have to turn it around bloody quickly though if we're going to play finals this year.

Out: Barlow, Taberner
In. : Mundy , Tucker.
Think you may be right on Barlow but at least he had a game high 9 tackles and 6 clearances, whereas I'm not sure whether Suban and D Pearce did anything at all. Tabs was poor but needs persisting with. If you're going to persist with non-contributors like NS and DP you'd be better off persisting with youth.

Last year we could cover for players out of form, and win ugly, this year this is not going to work, and the turnovers are killing us.
The backline setup doesn't look right, and I think it is time for Silva/Collins to come in, adding some aggression, strength, and leaving
Johnson the loose man in defence, haven't seen so many nervous nellies in a Freo team for a long time.

Correct, we'll be lucky to be 1-7 considering we have Carl, Adel, GWS and Hawks all coming up.

There is a major question as to where we go from there in the short term?

Do we continue refining the game plan or do we go full tank.

I don't like the idea of tanking for picks as some have suggested, I would like us to remain competitive which we have done for the last 2 games. Since we are obviously not in a good place to play finals we need to have an eye on the future. I believe currently Freo are implementing a new game as well as blooding the youth who will work it over the next few years so whilst the ladder position isn't desirable the bigger picture is.

Can someone actually explain to me how having Dawson, Johnson, Pearce AND Collins/Silvagni in the same defence is a good idea? Our main two areas of weakness this year are skills coming out of the back half and lack of ability to shut down the opposition in the midfield.

Silvagni or Collins would only make the first problem worse. Plus I thought on many occasions our defence looked too slow today. Again they'd make that worse. The second problem comes down to the plodders who last year blocked quite successfully for Fyfe, Neale and co. If Ross has instructed Suban, Mzungu (already out thank god) to not block for Fyfe, Neale and Mundy then get them all out of the team and get someone in that may actually win the ball themselves. Supply is the problem at both ends. We need to rebuild our midfield depth and get a decent key forward who's not Pav (still a gun but won't be here next year). I want to keep Taberner in but I've got the feeling anyone who's in that spot is only warming the seat that belongs to Apeness (for this year at least). Over time everything else will take care of itself. Maybe one or two tweaks in defence with Hughes and Tucker coming in but I feel we've got the talls to mediums/smalls ratio about right.

We keep doing what we're doing.

Weeding out the crap and replacing and rotating the younger guys through while keeping and refining the new style.

Everytime the option is a potato or new guys, the new guys wins

That is exactly what Lyon said last year regarding McPharlin and Alex Pearce.

They see how the team is traveling at the middle of the year and if they are doing poorly the young guys get a run.

Mora wont come in but his strength and run of half back makes Sherro look like a little leaguer.

Yep but I would still find a spot for Sherro like possibly on the wing. Surely the forwards would prefer leading to a Sheriden pass than a D Pearce pass. Sheriden does have his brain farts but also has the ability to kick beautifully to a leading forward, I remember from his early days before someone determined he was a backman.

Actually he is recently married.. So could have something there.
He's batting well above his average. He sadly now has a link to my old school thanks to that as well.

Asking McPharlin to play on an extra year was a complete waste of time.

Can't see Grey coming in - he has dodgy disposal... that's supposedly what's keeping him out of the team now.

Mayne will stay in. 14D, 6M, 7T and a goal. I thought he was actually okay today.

Suban was poo. DPearce was poo. Sutcliffe was poo. Barlow was borderline poo, but did some good things in patches.

Tabs and Croz need to do more - Tabs esp looked like he's a bit scared of his own shadow. But I'd give them both another go next week.

APearce :hearts:
Weller :hearts:

Blakely, Sandi, Bennell, Yarran, Morabito won't be available. Mundy should be.

de Boer, Mzungu, CPearce, Hannath - Do. Not. Want.

Sooooo........

In: Mundy, Tucker
Out: Suban, Sutcliffe

With Grey it is not even supposedly, the coach has come out and said it, "he needs to work on his disposal and he knows that". Having said that, he has been named as an emergency and I think He is a player that Ross would really like to see in the team as soon as his skills allow.

I'm not sure we could have been in a position to play a home prelim, as in finished in the top two, without McPharlin playing those 18 games but ultimately we could have used him in that last one against the Hawks - who knows what could have happened.

I will go with grey now rather than wait for his disposal to turn good in wafl and get injured like blakely, we are not 4-0 but 0-4 go and take the game on. Sutty and sheriden now is so afraid to lost their place with freo that they don't even dare to take risk.

Probably as he is seen as a Duffield kick-in replacement.... I would prefer to see him on the wing!

We're not playing finals

Most people would agree with you, we're currently $1.10 to miss the 8 and $6 to play finals.

But last year we won 17 games and put the cue in the rack for the final game so we were 17-4 at one stage winning over 80% of our games. If we get Bennell, Mundy and Sandilands into the team, Fyfe and Walters stay fit, and Hill and Ibbotson find form there's no reason why we can't win 9 of our last 11. That means we need to be 4-7 at the half way mark, which from 0-4 is unlikely, but not impossible.

A lot of people would have the Bulldogs, North and WCE in their top 4-5 teams this year. Gold Coast was obviously a blunder, but we only just beat them last year.

I'm keeping the faith.

I would have only 1 change. .. Tucker in for Suban... then we will have a few youngsters playing... Weller, Langdon and Tucker
