I would not be that Cocky
Dave, the 2005 team today, at their age today would beat those blue baggers.
They are just plop, and not even quality plop.

You stole that joke from Don Bradman.

Shortly before his death, Don Bradman, who famously averaged 99.94 in cricket Tests for Australia, was asked what he thought his average would be against the then poor England team.

“About 50 or 60,” he replied, after thinking for a minute.

“Surely it would be much higher?” queried the interviewer.

“Oh, I don’t know,” said Bradman, “I am ninety-two.”

We'll get a squad tonight and no doubt it'll be in: Sier, Brown, Murray, Appleby.

Out: Wells.

Bloody close. Although Blair likely as well (not kidding............just that I think he will be game day emergency so all the others get a full VFL game if not playing seniors)

BUCKS: WE'RE READY NOW

HARRISON REID reports ...

NATHAN Buckley says his team has matured from the lessons of season 2015’s post-bye demise.

Sixth on the ladder with an 8-4 record, Collingwood has its best chance of returning to September footy since 2015 when it entered the bye with the same number of wins and one fewer loss.

But from there the Pies squandered the second half of the year, winning only two of the remaining 11 games on their way to a mediocre 12th.

“2015 we were 8-3, and lost three games coming out of the bye by a goal or less. (That’s) still three years ago now. We’re better placed”, Buckley said.

Reflecting on the failed season in 2015 Buckley admits his side wasn’t finals material yet.

“We just weren’t ready as a group. That’s probably easy to back on now and to look retrospectively and say that”, he conceded.

“It seemed to me like our spirit was broken a little bit at that point of the year even at 8-6 with a positive record, we just weren’t able to maintain our positive momentum.

“You can’t take the foot off the accelerator at any point."

Now with stability and consistency in its game plan, a rare lack of media pressure and very winnable games against Carlton, Gold Coast and Essendon in the next three weeks, Collingwood is as well placed for a deep run into September as it has been during Buckley’s tenure.

“We can’t go back and do anything about 2015, but I think our squad is more resilient, more ready, we’ve got a deeper squad, so there’s more competition for spots and that’s a good problem to have.”

He said the Pies' habits were becoming those reflective of a contender.

“We feel like our best footy’s pretty good. We’re improving our low level and I think good teams need to do that”, he said.

“When you’re not playing quite as well you still need to be able to hold tight, be able to hold an opposition, arrest momentum or be showing some capacity to control a game and I think we’re doing that more and more.

“So all of those things are cause for optimism

Yes gold.

Or the West Indian bowler (might have been pat Patterson but maybe not) who jokingly said to the Don

If you were facing us you’d be averaging 50....

Yes, but I am in my eighties...

A very witty man was the Don.
Elite superstar of his sport one of the few that knew that he himself was the greatest ever in their sport.

Are you trying to tell me the Don stole his own joke from himself?

As a ruckman, I like the no third man up rule (don't get smashed by reckless idiots). Having to nominate is a load of shit though.

One person per team can go up, if two go up, free kick. Easy.
They did not have to invent a stupid rule, just penalise the third man up...it is clear who they are. "interfering with the ruck contest".
Simple.
The AFL give directives every friggen week to do this or do that.
Where in the rules does it say the Umpire can randomly call play on whenever he feels like it?
Just another way to sway games and influence results.

Who in turn stole it from a Baseball player named Ty Cobb

Louis Prima : With all the great players playing ball right now, how well do you think you would do against today's pitchers?

Ty Cobb : Well, I figure against today's pitchers I'd only probably hit about .290

Louis Prima : .290? Well that's amazing, because you batted over .400 a... a whole bunch of times. Now tell us all, we'd all like to know, why do you think you'd only hit .290?

Ty Cobb : Well, I'm 72 fu&%ing years old you ignorant son of a bitch

.... it's probably a concoction but it makes a good story

Does Bucks even watch the reserves play?? Crocker + Oxley performing well?

I heard Dean Jones tell it like this.

It was the day Merv made his 70 odd not out and The Don was shaking hands with WI players and he got to Patrick Patterson after he bowled all day and got 0/100 or so and he said "tough day Patrick, you didn't bowl very well".

Patrick told him that he would knock his head off if he bowled to him and the Don replied, "knock my head off, you couldn't get bloody Merv Hughes out".

Probably add Wills, Crocker, Murphy or McLarty to those inclusions as there'll be 5 ins with 1 out, and they're the only others available I think.

Edit: forgot Oxley.

Think Oxley will be the other one to add to what I said, based on what Bucks said today. Won't play, though. Emergency only.

Surely they've put a line through Oxley and he's just playing his contract out? Terrible move to give him a 2018 contract

This is the selection thread. Might be the game day emergency as per previous posts on this thread (Blair unavailable for that "genuine emergency" role")

Hes on a rookie list this year, doenst look like its worked out, no biggie.

Nah. No stress this year. If you haven’t seen a genuine change in us this year then you’ll never see it.

For me, that moment was the Brisbane game. That is a game we 100% would have lost in years gone by. Which Bucks himself even acknowledged.

Once we won that game, we were done losing “danger games” for the year.

Oh, I've definitely seen a change... Just still nervous. If we win the next 3 weeks without too many hiccups I think I'll be sold.
