Would you play Maynard or Greenwood further afield?

Maynard definitely could play further afield. And we already know Greenwood can and has.

Its really a question of whether its a good move. If Bucks had a gun to his head and was forced to drop three players this week, Greenwood Daicos and Mayne would be the three most likely to be dropped.........and Maynard could easily cover any of those players in their positions. But Buckley doesnt have a gun to his head. Not sure why you'd reshuffle an extremely effective backline to bring in a negating first year player. "Hes done very well since he came in" isnt enough of an argument for mine. Its about team balance. He came in to cover an injury and that injured player is back.

Whoever we bring in won’t be the same type of player as Wells, so I would go with the most in form one and that’s Appleby

Varcoe Brown Wills or Sier will be (roughly) the same type of player as Wells. All of them more like for like than Appleby.

Selection in 2018 has generally been on a like for like basis.

You won’t be alone.

Problem now is, coming off the Bye, a game we should win and Blues would want to get up vs Pies to make a statement.

Varcoe will be in if fit no doubt, he is somewhat similar but not exact. Brown isn’t and Sier certainly isn’t. Why change the midfield dynamic by adding Sier who’s predominantly inside after the midfield dominated Melbourne’s? If anything the backline has been weakest part of the ground for us

Sier is not, Brown has kicked 1 goal in his career

Youre getting pedantic now.

Brown has spent lots of time at that end as a defensive forward.

Appleby is not capable in any way of replacing Wells. Hes not a midfielder and certainly isnt a forward as far as we know.

The clubs selection is generally like for like, so a midfelder will most likely replace Wells.

You’re just missing my point. There is no exact replacement so I would go for the one that has displayed the most form. It’s not like the backline has been some unbreakable wall, Sier will change the midfield if he comes in for better or worse it’ll change the mix of arguably the AFL’s best midfield. Whether we go with Appleby, Sier etc won’t probably impact the result and Varcoe will be back soon for it not to be a long term problem.

Hi everyone, just want to say lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. I saw the thread on bay 13 posted on the 4th of june from the Melbourne fellow. Large piece of humble Pie for that young man. Nothing worse than a loss to that rabble.

Sorry by rabble i ment Carlton. Dees going ok for a change. Hope they finish the year off well.

I don't think there's ever much chance of anyone over 30ish taking a Carlton game lightly.

I'm nervous every time, regardless of form and ladder position.

Not that it matters I guess. Just need the players to be switched on.

As Carlton is so bad, should we play one down

Ie Wells is out so we don’t replace him.

Just go in with 21 players?

:D:D:D

Ps no way, bring in someone and thrash them and crush them like bugs

I might be a bit more diplomatic in my assessment of Greenwood's effort than you, but overall I agree that he doesn't do enough, and I watched him on QB without being impressed by him. Melksham went goalless, but that's happened 7 times this season. Melksham is capable of playing some good footy (had a great game against Richmond), but he's also capable of going missing, and I think Jake had an ordinary day last Monday (he was actually injured the week before against the Bulldogs). His own inconsistencies weren't helped by the stifling of Melbourne's midfield.

And yet others think that Greenwood had a good day, and maybe the coaches think the same. I tend to think that Greenwood was serviceable, in the most generous sense of that term, but that Appleby would have been at least as serviceable. Bucks acknowledged that Applyby was 'stiff' to miss selection, so I'm sure he'll get his chance soon enough.

Yep, this. I reckon it was a near thing Greenwood v Appleby for QB and ultimately they went with the experience of Greenwood. I would have personally gone the other way.

Would be nice to see one of McLarty, Sier or Wills debut or Murray/Appelby/Brown return.

Must get games into these guys.

Wills has already played around half a dozen games, but I agree with your sentiment. Would be good to see McLarty or Sier debut, although I wouldn’t be resting anyone on the back of the bye so only if a spot opens up.

They get games when their form is too good to leave out or injury.

Seems only one will join the side for the Wells injury.

I just have a feeling Varcoe is not ready so let’s call on Sier.

Big body; great chance for him to have a run of a few games.

I do feel Appelby was a bit stiff to miss but I suspect Greenwood is the stronger (and meaner) option.
