The Pies wont lose this because fan forums are cheering Carlton's badness. We deserve to carry on and enjoy it, as God knows we suffered at their hands for long enough. If fan arrogance was a negative factor in how a club performs, then how did Hawthorn win three flags in a row?

If the Pies lose tomorrow it will be down to complacency and over confidence in a team not quite yet used to winning consistently, and ensuring that high level effort is brought every week to every game. Its also up to Bucks and his assistants to jump on any smugness that might be creeping in.

Right now, based on form, we are miles ahead of this team. We simply should win if we keep playing as we have been, and I cant see Carlton having the skills or smarts to stop us.

My gut feel for this game is that Carlton will come out firing and take the game on and we’ll come out sluggish after the bye.

They may even win the first quarter and we’ll have our hearts in our mouths and roast threads at the ready.

Then we’ll come out and steamroll them for the rest of the game leaving behind their flaming corpse and announcing ourselves to the top 4.

... or we’ll just smash them from minute 1. Go Pies!

Essendon beating the Eagles was the best thing that could have happened for us. Should be a reminder to our boys about what happens if you take your opponent too lightly, no matter how bad they are.

It was timely. Melbourne losing off the bye will also help get our heads straight (I hope).

Also further opens up incentive that top two is up for grabs, not just top four.

I’m normally one to be conservative, but it’s hard not to be blunt with expectations for tomorrow.

The starting midfields as named are Steele, Pendles, Phillips, Grundy, Adams and Treloar v O’Brien, Cripps, Curnow, Kreuzer, Thomas and Dow all of our 6 are ranked in the top 100 of the AFL ratings system and Carlton have 2 (Cripps and Kruezer). Straight off the bat it indicates the weight of possession and territory will be in our favour which will make it extremely difficult for Carlton to kick the 80+ they’ll need to push us.

There’s been the usual talk of “the old Collingwood would drop this” and I can’t agree because I don’t think they would. The one is North 2017 and GC 2016 lopsided. IMO, the Adelaide result was the zenith of our 2018 and I’m inclined to consider %’s in output compared to that result to look at our prospects. If we’re at 50% of that night we win this one so realistically anything under 36 points will be a subpar performance.

Varcoe is a must play if fit other than Varcoe no changes our young gun team is killing we don’t need to change much atm

Varcoe isn’t fit. Changes have already been done, Appleby for Wells.

Besides the win, we also need to get our % up to the mid 120’s (to compete with WC, Sydney, Cats, Melb) to remain as a TOP 4 contender.
The next 3 weeks shall determine our September destiny (Carlton, GC, Essendon).
Win all 3...& TOP 4 is a reality.

HAppy to have Apples back, but given the out, I would have preferred Sier make his debut.

Watch for Crisp to play run-with on Cripps
Would rather Greenwood run with Cripps and Crisp keep attacking from half back.
Would be happy if Crisp takes him if he goes forward.

That would not Shock Me that they Start Better but we should be able get back in the Game and Eventually Win. Not Expecting a Massive Win but Something between 20-40 points win coming off the Bye

Carlton are not that bad,
They’re terrible.

Win.

Bank the win, move on.

Throw De Goey into that, and we should be amile ahead.

Have you been to the VFLW, TD? If so, what's the standard of footy like?

Only saw bit of the one vs Dogs. As Games bit Harder to get to then AFL and VFL Games

Sounds about right.

They kicked the first 3 in Round 3

I'm not necessarily saying that's what I want.

But if you look at selection:

Appleby can only play back pocket.

The current back 6:

Howe, Dunn, Maynard, Crisp, Langdon, Scharenberg

Clearly one of those is coming out. Which basically means one of Crisp or Maynard will play on Cripps. Now that I think about it, Maynard is probably the right fit to play on him.

We’ve been using 7 defenders each week Spesh.
