Changes vs Carlton

I'll let him off on this occasion. He's one of the few over there who can be impartial
I sensed Healy was supportive of our club and the way we play football I was thinking he was biased towards us. After years of conditioning, I now realise positive comments from the Melbourne media can actually be from a neutral.

Nah I reckon Healy is anything but neutral, he loves the Eagles. I think he's a bit of a contrarian and got on the Eagles during '15 (maybe earlier?) when few else were.

And I'm all for it, it's nice having a Victorian commentator who actually knows the names of our players.

But lately, he has gone the full Bruce a bit.

His, '...but THIS, THIS is the DANCE, the DANCE of the SUPERSTAR' after Willie's goal was enough to make you blush.

That’s what I thought ..

That lazy campaigner Healy couldn’t be f’ed checking ..
Oh well he said something like that about breaking the record I was half expecting a correction for getting it wrong as I rounded the figure out ..

Sounds like you were a lazy campaigner who couldn’t be fced checking. Healy’s one of few media personalities tolerable.

That’s great we need to build team stability in the line up so who goes then .

Probably Nelson, Watson and Cameron/Masten. Hutchings played as a half forward Cameron is sore and Masten is the only mid I would suggest that would get dropped. Watson and Nelson get shaded by Hurn and Duggan for sure. It's a risk putting 3 players straight in but I would back senior players to come back in and play well.

If Hutchings doesn't tag, he shouldn't be in the team IMO.

Hasn't got the skills or pace to be playing on a HFF.
He will probably go to Simpson or Murphy I reckon.

No way Masten gets dropped now. I have been big on him getting dropped this year but his output over the last month has been more than solid! Not sure who would even come in and play the same role.

It's difficult to chose a player to drop for Hutchings. Hutchings is more balanced inside and outside and is our best tagger by a stretch. You don't really want to drop Redden who is more inside and really helps Shuey and Yeo on the inside. i would suggest that Yeo, Shuey and Gaff are locks and I would argue that Redden is closer to a lock than Masten particularly with Rioli now attending more centre bounces and stoppages. I think if Smith had have come on faster and stayed injury free he could well have been pushing Masten out of the team. Thursday night will be very interesting.

Hutchings for a tag or for WAFL. He can be tried for spells on Cripps to free up Yeo or can just tag Simpson.

Hurn obvious in. Either Schofield or Watson out. My preference is Schofield for height reasons.
If Duggan comes back then Watson also misses, but he may get a WAFL warmup.

He does turn the ball over less than Masten on average but has kicked 1.5 to Masten's 2 goals so he has goalkicking accuracy issues despite having more opportunities. I agree that Cameron has the pace and skills and is a pure small forward. I think that when Cripps returns Cameron is probably behind petrucelle in terms of output so he would be likely to be rested.

Agree that Cripps will be an automatic in when ready. And Cameron the likely out. Longer term it can be Petrucelle to the wing and Masten out, but atm it is Cripps for Cameron. When fit.

So this week the question is Hutchings. If he comes in to tag Simpson, who goes out? Yeo, Shuey, Gaff, Sheed are locks. That realistically leaves Redden or Masten.

Simpson plays off half back to if Hutch comes in to tag him then it’s a forward who comes out - so either Waterman or Cameron

The impending availability of Hurn, Duggan, Hutchings and Cripps does put pressure on the Masten's of the world. Bloody harsh but some damn good players are going to get stiffed this year.

Mmm maybe but id rather Masten play as a winger than say Hutchings.

Hutchings should only be in the team if he is tagging.

Yep and the match committee also has to weave returning players into a lineup coming off some of our best form this year without upsetting our balance or playing underdone blokes.

For example Cameron is seen by many as a likely out for Cripps. In the past month the kid has been good enough to definately put Petch on notice, or even force Cripps to return via the Magoo's. These are good problems.

There's no way Crippa plays Magoo's IMO.

You wouldn't automatically have Hurn, Duggan, Hutchings and Cripps all return this week just because they are available either. Duggan for instance. Who does Duggan replace out of Schofield or Nelson (assuming Watson is the poor bastard who makes way for the AA captain)?

Pretty sure Crippa isn't ready yet.

Depending on weather we go with a tall or a small, Nelson or Schoey I would imagine.

Cripps came straight into the side after missing almost an entire preseason with a foot injury

When he’s recovered from this abductor injury, which isn’t this week btw, he comes straight back. No WAFL for Cripps

Let's hope the mental scarring from his abduction is only clinical.

Yeh, Cripps looks a week away. But when he is ready he comes straight in. Over 2018-19 he has been our most consistent small forward and our best forward tackler. Was a big loss early against the pies and I have no doubt if he had played the game out we would have been further ahead before we crapped out.

Vs. Carlton. Weather will be fine. No rain, no wind, even illumination.

Hutch to simpson because he can actually hurt him the other way and kick a goal or two .
Nelson to start on the wing and go to murphy after centre bounces .

Cripps usually comes back with a good first up game and then goes quiet for a couple before regaining his form. He is vital to this side and will come straight in when fit so he can be running into form for the finals.

Carlton only have two tall fwds, so no room for schoey unfortunately imo. Hurn in for him, if Duggan is in Watson probably the other unlucky one. Hutch plays wafl.

I reckon our backline functions a lot better with Schoey in the team. He's got a tonne of experience and takes the opposition's best forward, allowing Gov and Tb to be a little more freewheeling. I'd feel more confident taking him into the finals than any of the others who're pressing for a spot, and I think our best back 7 at the moment would be: Hurn, Tb, Gov, Jetta, Duggan, Schoey, Sheppard.
