Changes vs Carlton

Yeah, I don't want him as a prime mover. But I don't mind him at all as an accountable forward who can push up the ground, links up well enough - kicks best when he's closer to goal. And having the option to go a hard tag is great, cos he's one of the best in the business at that.

No doubt he still has his limitations. But he's proven to me at least that he knows what they are, and can work within them most of the time.

Reckon he will come in for Waterman.
Yeah even then not a huge fan. He's too slow for the outside and he's kicking is very limited. I don'y mind him tagging a a flanker tho.

He should have a match up every week IMO even if we play shit sides that don't really have a gun we need him to go to. I don't believe in selecting him for games where there's an obvious match up, because thats how players lose confidence and form.

I really rate Hutchings as a tagger and would like to get him back in before finals. Not sure this is the week to do it though. Cripps is just too big and too strong.

Look at how Yeo and Shuey - our two biggest mids - were able to put a body on Cunnington at the stoppages and restrict his influence. That’s our best bet against Cripps.

Still unsure about whether Waterman fits into a side that already contains JK, Darling and Allen but he played his role and I’d be happy to leave the forward line as is this week.

In: Hurn
Out: Watson

Hurn for Watson the obvious change - not that franky has been bad

Longer term we have hutch/Cripps for waterman/cameron

And Duggan for... gee hard to see Nelson going out .. maybe Masten, although he’s found form as well

almost inevitable what is going to happen this week.
It'll be the most uninspiring and unconvincing 9 point win, but its all about just racking up four points so I won't mind.

Is it just me or does Waterman always look exhausted?
Never noticed it before but he certainly did in this game . Didn't see what he did before ie chasing, making position etc so that could have been the reason but he could hardly get above half pace on a few occasions. We started watching him more closely and were surprised at how often he looked totally cooked. Wouldn't think it is a fitness issue but was definitely unusual.

I think you may be on the money here. Maybe get hutch to tag a hbf (simpson?) Rather than a mid, therefore bringing him in as a forward.

For god’s sake yes, can we please put some time into this campaigner? Cuts us up every time we play the Blues.

It's also about percentage now.

Hutchings to play on Patrick Cripps. In crazy form.

Good call although in saying that I often prefer Hutchings on the more outside types like a Sidebottom and Yeo going head to head with the contested beasts like Cripps or Fyfe. Allows our clearance team to be a bit more of a threat offensively overall and more often than not curbs their influence as well.

Wouldn't mind giving Hutch another weeks rest to get him really right and having the option to give Jackson a run with Cripps depending on how the game's going/whether we can afford to experiment a bit

Elliott say “that’s my job”.

Do you really want someone who has not played full contact football for over s month to come in untested and take on Cripps?

Some people are massively over-rating Carlton here. Ignore the media hype, in the last few weeks the teams they've beaten are: crows, swans, suns, Brisbane (at mcg), Freo. They've also managed to lose to Melbourne and Bullflogs. In essence, they hit the easy part of their draw just as they sacked poor old Bolton.

We should easily account for them. Not sure we'll build % as they always seem to lift against us, but I'm not worried about getting the W.

I like your confidence! But hope Eagles don't come off the Roos game like prima-donnas and drop their guard? Every game now is red-hot in importance and needs to be played that way. The Blues always take it up to us, just can't see a runaway win, but would be sweet if it happens, for that %.

Watching waterman in the 1st, he looked cooked, couldn’t run and was always hands on hips / head like he was stuffed.
He was better as the game went on, but he didn’t seem to run flat out.
Out waterman, Cameron & Watson.
In Hurn , hutch & ahchee.
If your dropping Waterman for “not running flat out”, then he takes Masten with him and Hutchings doesn’t get a gig.

I watched Waterman closely on Saturday and he was providing a decent link up role. That left Jack to play a more central role and opened up the area in front of goals for JK. I think Simmo mentioned Waterman’s game in the press conference do I expect they like the structure he brings.

Hurn for Watson is s no brainer.

For form, structure and importance to our game, I’d be ok unchanged. If a Hutch is to come back in, then either Cameron or Masten make way.
