Apparently King met with Nicks over a coffee & told him personally.
Wonder no more.I am wondering when Nicks starts pointing fingers and the blame game ?
).We know what’s wrong and we improvedI just don't see a way Dowling debuts.
He should, but all signs point to no.
- cracking, unrewarded performance in the SANFL 2wks ago
- no follow up game to back up the performance
- selection panel hubris
- a "not disgraceful" loss against a top 4 team by the senior side

Half time of Gold Coast gameI am wondering when Nicks starts pointing fingers and the blame game ?
And keeps selecting the same under performersWonder no more.
He's all ready blaming the players for not carrying out his Master Plan (whatever that is).
According to Nicks they know what to do.
They're just not doing it.
Also, junior players who don't play better than underperforming seniors either get dropped or are yo-yoed in and out of the side.
Thats harsh. I do agree that there is something wrong within the club. On the surface it appears there are question marks over recruitment but just as importantly, development. I have loved what Nicks has done with culture and player satisfaction but I also believe that his time is up. We now need a strong leader with a strong understanding of how should be playing and a preparedness to experiment by using our younger players. We should have been doing this for the past two years. I hear what the commentators say about the young up and coming stars in other teams but we don't have that. Yes Soligo looks the goods and so does Rachele but no real consistency. There is not one young player in our squad that has shown elite attributes....not yet anyway.I genuinely think the club is run by morons.
I think that they think they are really smart, but in reality they are too dumb to know that they are dumb.
I read this morning that in Clarko's last 5 (or was it 7) years of coaching in AFL he has only had 1 year where he had more wins in the year than losses. Some are saying that maybe the game has gone past his abilitiesI think a Bottom-4 finish is highly likely, after the 0-4 start.
Not so much just the losses, but the way/s we've lost. Hesitant, poor skills, fumbly, disorganised, no composure. Those qualities do not change overnight.
Nicks et al seem to think they do not have to change much to achieve a lot of change.
That's rubbish.
Losers' mentality.
Yep.
Beating NM in Hobart won't be easy. Clarko is a better tactician than Nicks and most other Coaches.
WC showed some spirit and ability vs the Swans last game, too.
Chicken or egg? You mentioned development - which I think is atrocious - and have questions over young playersThere is not one young player in our squad that has shown elite attributes....not yet anyway.
If they were to debut Dowling. They would play him in a fwd pkt then drop him next week for only getting 10 touches.
Ned needs to become a permanent sub, as he seems to have a bigger impact coming on for 1Q than playing an entire game.
Jones is just SO vanilla. It's not even the quantity of times Hinge is coughing the ball up, it's the manner in which he's doing it. His errors are causing direct goals by being careless in dangerous areas of the ground.
Very very concerned about Rachele's ceiling.
I know we need to give a few games to the new kids, but it was SO disappointing that not ONE of them gave us a glimmer of something exciting. I think we really needed one of them to announce themselves. Cook for me seemed to do OK for his 56% time on ground. Parnell 74m gained for his position was NOT good, zero tackles.
Parnell, Cook, Keays, McHenry, Nank, Burgess, Jones - all very pedestrian. Jones and McHenry in particular are at the age now where they need to be making an impact on the game and they're just SO middling.
It's all well and good saying we should make some changes, but the only players i see potentially coming in are:
Curtin, Dowling, Pedlar, Sholl, Berry. There really is no one else to select..
Complicating matters is that there isn't really a position for Curtin at the moment. Pedlar desperately needs some minutes in the SANFL to play himself back into form, Dowling would be a great addition but where would you put him, and who does he come in for? Very similar to Berry, who will get a game ahead of him.
Out: Parnell, Burgess, McHenry
In: Dowling, Curtin, Berry (McHenry sub)
Curtin with equal game high 10 marks in last weeks SANFL game. He can't be any worse than Burgess, swing him forward and give him some minutes. We're crying out for some connection to the FWD line and at this stage Fog/Walker and Burgess aren't willing to work up the ground too much. Curtin would also add some F50 defensive pressure, which we're crying out for. Rankine is our highest I50 tackler per game, and he's ranked 52nd in the AFL (he had zero tackles I50 against Melb). We seem to have a lot of half forwards (Rachele, Pedlar, Keays, Murphy) but none of them want to apply pressure and tackle I50
Again, i pointed out ALL of Fremantles Key Forwards put in the defensive work I50 last week, and same again this week with Melb, Van Rooyen with 4 tackles and Chandler 3
Swing Laird into the backline in place of Parnell, to give us SOME run, Berry into the middle and let Downling come in and rotate wing/middle. DO SOMETHING

“The impact that Phil Walsh has had on this club will be remembered forever – it won’t ever be lost.”
Andrew Fagan.
I hope we've got our head around the need to play Formula One Footy again.
This safe, slow and long down the line stuff we've been serving up has to go.
Thats part of my point. I dont know what is happening in the club and unless someone is inside the club or has access to intel then we are all just commenting on what we see. From what I see currently not one of our draftees has demonstrated he has elite qualities and consistency. Michalanney comes close and is still growing but only other players that show solid performances come from our old guys. Dawson for me is the only real elite player in our squad at the moment. Tex is not doing so well. Most other teams have 5 elite players (guess) that you can rely on to be there on game day.Chicken or egg? You mentioned development - which I think is atrocious - and have questions over young players
We just dont know
We can make valid calls on Parnell , McHenry, Murphy and a few more not having it but we need more AFL info on the rest
Ryan off half back could also be an option.Parnell out. Time for Curtin
We don't hold up elite traits as the standard.Thats part of my point. Rest of your post is validThere is not one young player in our squad that has shown elite attributes....not yet anyway.
And finish 6th in our B&F and promoted to our leadership groupWe don't hold up elite traits as the standard.
It's all about perceived effort.
So guys that run around looking like that they are a chicken with their head cut off are held up as role models, regardless of how they execute.
And keeps selecting the same under performers
Yeah/nah, now you are talking bull, taurusI'm thinking the Crows have a chance and dabbling on line and under 40.
Risky.I watched the Carlton game last Saturday at the oval, honestly I nearly fell asleep at times. It only got interesting in the last qtr with the help of umps.
McKay was shite as usual. Cripps was quiet and Hewitt almost invisible.
I'm thinking the Crows have a chance and dabbling on line and under 40.
Put Jones back to sub, when he come on last time as a sub he had some angry pills that’s where his form startedRyan off half back could also be an option.
I’d like to see Curtin on the wing. Nank on the other. Jones deserves to be dropped, he’s had a s**t year.
It'll take a quarter and a half for the guys who haven't played there to get accustomed to how much faster and how much further the ball moves through the air. If our hitting targets was iffy before, I dread to think what might be unless they get accustomed early.Risky.
We are super inexperienced at playing on Marvel and got belted there last year. Admittedly i think only 7 of the team had ever played there before.
This year we should have about 15-17 players that have played there at least once. Dunno if that's enough for us to grasp how to play it.
