Williams has copped 2 good defenders, Think he should get another week, if he gets the best defender it's all good if Ryder hille or neagle can kick goals, we aren't going to win many games relying on zaka and monfries!!!

Ryder and hille aren't getting dropped!! !! Calm down!!

I should think there will only be a couple of changes..

I would think NLM, Neagle, Reimers will be the major contenders to be thought about. I think Houli should also be considered, but they don't seem to be considering him

McVeigh may not be risked for the match, but i don't really know who else can/will be dropped. Williams will be given another chance, Monfries, Gumbleton are playing well - so there is limited places up forward for Neagle and Reimers
We need Davey's pace, so no matter how bad he has played i don't think we can afford to drop him

Would have thought that NLM would be a walk up starter... Agree that you can't drop Davey...

Out : Myers
In : Houli

I can't picture Myers playing against anyone in the Carlton forward line, they only have Kruz and O'Hailpan (?sp) up forward. Pears + Hooker will easily cover the talls. They have a lot more small forwards we'll need to cover.
Will McVeigh be fit for the game? Maybe swap Myers for him if he isn't.

Essendon
B: Heath Hocking, Cale Hooker, Henry Slattery
HB: Tayte Pears, Dustin Fletcher, Ricky Dyson
C: Courtenay Dempsey, Jobe Watson, Brent Stanton
HF: Jason Winderlich, Scott Gumbleton, Brent Prismall
F: Alwyn Davey, Patrick Ryder, Angus Monfries
Foll: David Hille, Mark McVeigh, Andrew Welsh
I/C: David Zaharakis, Mark Williams, David Myers, Ben Howlett
Emg: Jay Neagle, Jason Laycock, Kyle Reimers

IN: NLM

Possible IN's include: Neagle and Reimers.

OUT: McVeigh

Possible OUT's: Could be anyone. I want Myers to stay as he needs games to get going, just like Gumbleton.

The problem for us will be containing their small forwards. Houli has played on Milne and Nahas and could get a call up to play on someone this week. What we need to do is not to zone off them, but to tag them. Don't give them any space and go with them all day.

In NLM, Neagle, Reimers, Bellchambers
Out Hille, Slatts, McVeigh, Davey.

I wish.

Laycock is miles ahead of TBC.

In fact I hope they give him a chance this week to expose the Blues lack of height down back.
Would also be nice to have a back up for Hille & Ryder if Kreuzer and Warnock start getting on top.

FFS.
I really, really disagree. I don't mind Belly, you know what you get. Laycock... do you get the bad Laycock, or the not-there Laycock, or the elusive good Laycock.

And if we need to pick 3 rucks, we've got either 2 runners only on the bench, or 2 big fat buggers standing at full-forward. We have so far struggled to carry Hilley let alone Laycock as well.

No small lockdown defender? Betts and Yarran would have a day out.
Hasn't been working.
We really, really, really lacked the run and carry, counter attacking stuff on the weekend.
Not only did we cough up 2 or 3 to a small forward, but having no run coming through cost us 4 or 5 second half goals. Dunno what Spike was doing.
Have a look at #41 for Freo, streamed from the backline, set up 2 or 3 painful, painful uncontested goals. THAT is where we lost, not having an answer for that.

We definitely need some speed into our side. So I think Houli and Reimers should get selected on that basis.

Out: McVeigh, ??
In: Houli, Reimers

I guess Neagle is a chance too, but not sure who will be dropped for him, especially if they want to give Williams another shot.

What would that be ?

A lumbering big man who can't mark overhead, who is too light for AFL football at the moment and is about 3 years away from being competitive at the top level.

Laycock is a mile ahead of TBC on every possible scale.

This reminds me of the old Big Footy saying :

"Only on Big Footy is it better to be young than good."

FB: Fletcher, Pears, Houli (Yarran)
HB: Winderlich, Hooker, McVeigh (Betts)
C: Dempsey, Watson, Prismall
HF: Williams, Gumbleton, Welsh
FF: Zaharakis, Neagle, Monfries
R: Ryder, Myers, Stanton
INT: Hille, Daniher, NLM, Hocking

INS: Daniher, NLM, Houli
OUTS: Slattery, Dyson, Howlett

Now, I know this won't happen but this is what I'd liked to see. I'd bring in Daniher because he is a competitor and that is something we really seem to be lacking atm. He could also provide another option around HF and could go back and play on a small (good pace) if someone gets off the chain down forward. NLM could come into to cover down back, forward or midfield, although I'd like to see him get a run in the midfield/defence as that is where we need a bit of run and dash. Houli comes in for Slattery as he has more pace and is better equip to handle the faster "small guys" running around atm. Neagle needs to come in for structure more than anything and the fact that he is a natural full forward.

Howlett stiff, but I'd like him to go back to Bendigo and find that extra fitness that is required at AFL level. He has what it takes, but we can't keep carrying him in the last quarters. Dyson also stiff, but I can't squeeze him in although he could be a good match up for Murphy.

Get Myers in the guts from the first bounce and really put the acid on him and see how he responds. I wouldn't mind Myers taking Gibbs one-on-one, Gibbs should be able to take him to the ball which could help him find confidence as well.

Put Williams on up the flank to get him into the game as we are not doing him any favours as FF atm.

I've never been on of the Slattery bashers, but more pace is needed by the small defenders these days to match the lightning quick small forwards currently running around.

Out: Slattery, Dyson, Davey.
In: Neagle, Houli, Reimers.

The arguement about needing a small lock down defender doesn't stack up when the one we've got doesn't do it.

Calls for Myers after one game coming off an injury are crazy. As previously mentioned, I'm glad we persevered with Gumby for more than 1 week.

Between Hooker, Pears, Hocking, McVeigh, Welsh, Fletcher, Dempsey we certainly have options for Betts. Yarran is hardly a world beater at this point in time.

Bellchambers last good game was the 1st hawks game last year. 2 big pack marks, converted the second one, and decent enough in the hit-outs against admittedly mediocre opposition.
Laycock's last good game was....?

If you reckon we leak goals badly this year, chuck le coq in the middle for 10 mins a quarter, and we'll get even worse. Remember '08 ?

Out: McVeigh (Injured), Williams
In: Neagle, NLM

Emg: Houli, Reimers

We really just need as many tall marking options forward as possible until we can fix our regrettably high delivery inside 50 and also against carlton's relative height down back. Zaka is more than handy to work off them with a lift from davey. Williams' effort and pressure was ordinary from the get go from where i was sitting and contributed to the easy run out of defence for freo on occasions. Needs to do more when its not delivered to him on a plate so is the standout begging to be dropped and needs to contribute in a bendigo game before I'd consider him again.

I don't see why we would drop Neagle when as correct me if i'm wrong the whole reason proposed for changing Lloyd's role in 2010 was to develop other full forward options. Williams was never going to be a long term option at FF, and rotating rucks through FF isnt really developing a key forward long term so Neagle/Laycock/Ryder/Hille or some other kid has to be named and played as FF each week surely.

Would like to see Houli in there for a bit of run/pace and more natural fit for McVeigh, but really need some guys to step up and lead with a bit of presence so if we can possibly squeeze both NLM and houli in i would be happy. There was just a really flat feeling and look about the team when the lads came out after half time for mine so hopefully NLM's toughness & experience can lift the team in that area.

Now that he has been picked need to give Myers at least another 1 or 2 games, preferably in the middle.

Neagle or Laycock need to be at full forward, we cannot go into another game with Williams as the focal point. The players looked like they didn't have confidence kicking to him and were unsure of kicking it in front or behind him, the forward 50 entry was confusing for all. At least with a big target the ball is either marked or bought to ground. Personally i want to see Neagle.

Also Houli should come in to sit on Yarran or Betts. I dunno what Knights love affair with Slattery is but surely he has to be dropped - maybe its becasue they wear/wore their shorts in the same manner - pulled up dangerously high, increasing the risk of spatfers!!!

If McVeigh doesn't come up then i would like to see Lonergan get a crack.

In - Neagle, Riemers, Houli and Lonergan
Out - Slattery, McVeigh, Davey and Williams

I thought the backline was a problem. Too often we missed targets by foot, leaving Slattery exposed 2 on 1. I'd like to see this backline against Carlton:

B: Slattery - Pears - Fletcher
HB: NLM - Hooker - Houli

Houli is no less defensive than Dempsey, and is a much better kick. NLM can zone off as well as Dempsey, and mans up much better.

However, Dempsey shouldn't be dropped. I'd like to see him further forward.

C: Dempsey - Watson - Prismall
R: Hille - Stanton - Welsh

Up forward, I'd like to see Williams given another chance. Davey is too lightweight for a forwardlines struggling like ours. If he can be fed by a functional forwardline, fine, but our forwardline isn't in any state to accomodate him. We were a tall short (so to speak :p) on Sunday as well.

HF: Winderlich - Gumbleton - Monfries
F: Zaharakis - Neagle - Williams

Obviously Ryder gets one of the bench spots. Howlett deserves a spot as well.

That leaves Hocking, Reimers, Dyson and Myers fighting for the last two spots, assuming McVeigh is out injured.

I'd go for the first two.

OUT: McVeigh (inj.), Myers, Dyson, Davey
IN: NLM, Houli, Neagle, Reimers
