So you're saying Tippett, White and Kozi didn't work last season? news to me. Kruezer too? How about Sandi? Or Ottens yesterday? They can't have worked, you said so. How can you explain that? Provide evidence that "Ruckmen at FF don't work" before you post that s***.

Tippets a forward first. How much ruck time has he had?

White? Who is he?

Kosi? Played CHB in his first year and is seen as more a KPP than ruck.

There are no real long term ruckman that have played forward consistently and kicked goals. Simon Madden is one but that is from yesteryear.

And if you are going to play one forward for any point in time, at least don't make it a lumbering big guy who will get murdered once it's gone.

Can you play Steven King, Dean Brogan, Hudson, etc, etc forward? That's who Laycock should be compared to and not your mobile types.

Almost missed the thread:confused:

Daniher > Davey
Daniher will be hungry for another go, and unlike Davey, finds the goal. He's defesively minded as well, which we need in our forward line. I doubt whether the Carlton defenders will give Daniher any respect either which means he should be ableto find space and time. Davey is simply too hot and cold.

Reimers > Williams
Williams doesn't want it. Send him to Bendigo where he can get a glimpse of the future if he doesn't lift his game. Reimers does want it, in spite of his poor fitness, and would lift against a side like Carlton.

Houli > McVeigh (ill)
I'd hope that Houli takes the opportunity with both hands and tears it up. He should play midfield/hb and give us plenty of rebound off the boot. Hopefully his long kicks should be able to catch Carlton short. He knows he needs to make the tackles stick and has worked hard to develop his ball getting ability.

Neagle also needs to be in the side, which I think most agree is the case. Laycock hasn't seen enough AFL recently to justify his inclusion. Plenty of forwardline practise at Bendigo could see this change. At whose expense?? I don't know... perhaps Myers.

and one more thing on Laycock.

I have always felt he is a KP (full forward) at heart, and not a ruckman.

Because he is over 200cm - he is suddenly ruckman height and has been pushed down that path for a long time. We are trying to place square peg in a round hole, and his body has never been able to take the rigors of the ruck.

He can gain separation on the lead, is a good kick and has great hands.

When I think back to his 'highlights' - not many of em are as a ruck, in fact it is all as him as a forward.
I agree.
Fully.
Can you imagine Thornton or heckin'g Bower having 20-25 touches running off Laycock from full-back??? Would make me sick.
Neagle.

Neagle.

Bower is injured and Neagle isn't much good in the chasing department anyway.

Really can't decide between the two talls, but one of them is required. Houli would be in the mix too, but I can't fit him in atm.

Pretty good this. I think Daniher should be considered along side neagle/laycock. He has performed well, but not given a chance, he is pacy and hard at it.
Last week we looked slow, so NLM is a must, and Atkinson could be a possibility in place of Davey. Williams, despite getting good defenders on him, should be dropped imo. If reimers isn't fit, lonergan should come in for him. Then you can have a rotating midfield/forward of Longergan, Zaka, Monfries, NLM.
I personally don't see why myers should get a game, but if gumby was gifted a 2nd game, then so should myers I guess.
Winderlich will need a big one this week, but as we are slow already, he will stay in for now.

 ...and NLM as well!
NLM > Myers

I think the biggest problem in terms of our set up, was clearly the forward line against Freo (insert captain obvious quote here).

Carlton will potentially struggle against a taller forward line so i would go back to Neagle and Williams out of the square, Gumby CHF with Hille/Ryder in the forward line for hopefully about 10mins each per quarter.
Really stretch the lack of good tall defenders at Carlton, and see how we go (weather permitting).

Therefore...INS: Neagle, NLM, Riemers
................OUT: Davey, Myers, Dyson

Ps, Myers i thought was okay and unlucky to be dropped after one chance, but we need to be more dangerous going forward, thus, Riemers.

If McVeigh doesn't come up, Myers in.

Pps, For me Slattery out for Myers or Lonergan would be a lock, but as i'm sure he's not gonna get dropped by Knights so i won't put him in my outs every week.

Out: Slattery, McVeigh
In: NLM, Riemers

Defence will be:

NLM Pears Fletcher
Dempsey Hooker Myers

Fletcher to take Betts because we can't keep getting smashed by small forwards every week. Slattery has not been able to stop Steve Johnson or Ballantyne in the two games and we can't afford three in a row.

Out: Prismall (concussion), McVeigh (illness), Davey (omitted), Williams (omitted)
In: Neagle, Laycock, Lovett-Murray, Reimers

B: Slattery, Pears, Fletcher
HB: Lovett-Murray, Hooker, Dempsey
C: Stanton, Hocking, Dyson
HF: Winderlich, Gumbleton, Monfries
F: Reimers, Neagle, Zaharakis
R: Ryder, Watson, Welsh
Int: Laycock, Hille, Myers, Howlett
Emerg: Melksham, Hardingham, Houli

Disagree here. A myth that we struggle for good talls down back:

Jamison 193cm
Bower 192cm
Thorton 192cm
Waite 194cm
Henderson 196cm
O'hAlpin 199cm

granted some will play forward

plus Austin 193cm.

Dana played as a forward for Calder and won their best and fairest.
Play him as a forward please.

Of those I only rate Jamison, Bower and Waite. The rest are unproven or simply incapable of playing tight (e.g. Thornton).

If Bower misses with injury and Thornton is forced to play on a KPP then we simply must go tall. I'd much rather have Waite playing down back than up forward. It would mean that Henderson and the Irishman would get Pears and Hooker and I like those match ups.

Laycock played predominantly forward in the last game for Bendigo and looked solid without setting the world on fire. His mobility and chasing however was very good. Geez I'd love him to play......but it's a tough call on Neagle to miss.

BTW if Myers gets dropped this week I'll be ****en furious. If you are going to shock everyone by playing him then atleast give him a couple of games. If he gets dropped this week, I think it would be the worst decision Knights has made in regards to selection (except for not playing Bellchambers last year).

It will be a great decision. This game is too important to go into effectively one player short. Its not the time to be experimenting. We need to win.

As for the TBC decision. I agree wholeheartedly with that as well. He's not up to standard.

Whats with this obsession with people wanting to give games to people who don't deserve to pull on the jumper simply because they are young.

This is not Ozkick FFS.

In; Laycock, Houli, NLM, Neagle

Out; McVeigh ( inj ), Ryder, Welsh, Davey

Hard decisions have to be made at selection.

Ryder has given us nothing in the last 2 weeks and Laycock could give us as much.

Welsh played OK last weekend. but he is not the answer as a tagger, and I cant find him another role in the team.

Hocking to be the midfield tagger.

Neagle and Gumbleton will give us a more traditional forward structure.

NLM to play back with occasional stints in the midfield.

Houli to play midfield - Dyson and Winderlich to rotate more often in the midfield.

Laycock to share ruck duties with Hille.

I'm all for dropping people that don't perform but Ryder and Welsh are simply not going to be dropped.

Really think Davey needs to go back to Bendigo to find some confidence/form. Myers was OK but didnt do enough so may get dropped. Henry may hold his spot depending on who comes up. Id have;-

OUT: H.Slat, Myers, Davey
IN: Neagle, NLM, Reimers

NLM Pears Hocking
Fletch Hooker Dempsey
Howlett Welsh Dyson
Zaharakis Gumby Monfires
Ryder M.Williams Reimers

Hille Watson Stanton

INT: Winders Neagle Prismal McVeigh

Emerg: H.Slat Myers Davey

Prismal & McVeigh on bench under illness/injury clouds if they dont come up Slats & Myers to play

Why not !

It is all about winning games and playing to the coaches instructions.

Better players than Ryder and Welsh have been dropped and bounced back.

Said it before, but if we keep playing like this for more rounds, Knights needs to drop a few 'stars' and send them to Bendigo. Much like Lyon did with NDS and Milne.

I don't know how long we can defend Davey for. Last year he could use the injury excuse but this year he's said he's fully fit. I'd much prefer skill over just speed.

The difference is that I would do it now - before the season is totally lost.

Exactly, part of having a near fully fit team should be creating pressure on selections. We can't go playing our under performing "stars" in hope that they'll eventually start playing good again.

This.

But love-child Slattery will never be omitted.

Have no idea how Lonergan keeps getting overlooked, probably one of our best clearance players and considering we plain sucked in that department on the weekend he gets a game. NLM is a no-brainer, need his versatility. Would play him up forward. Whilst Reimers gets recall because he isnt afraid to have a dip and put his head over the ball and run the lines.
