Surely griffo is gunna play.....couple of factors could make us super competitive, having an 8 day break, season is gone for good this time if we lose.we can only hope the players attack the game like they seem to for a derby.

that 8 day break is going to make a difference - i blame the loss to the saints solely on fatiguing in the last quarter. we were controlling that game until then, man. half back is gonna be the danger zone when their mids press and small forwards look to expose our weaknesses. hopefully faulks comes in for duff, who is released forward where he can be less accountable one on one. i think he did well up forward earlier in the year, too. our forward structure has been a shambles this year, but we don't have too may problems getting it inside 50, so if we make the most of our opportunities, we can match it with them.
i'm quietly confident.

If you mean for Sandi, I hope so. Unless 211 is 100% fit or close to it then he simply shouldn't play. The players aren't particulalry used to him being there in recent weeks (effectively 9 weeks out by my reckoning) and if he's not all there, then he'll quickly become a liability. If we were flying then maybe we could carry and underdone key player, but we need fit and firing players. Sandi may work, but the risk is huge.

Having said that, he may well be really ready to go, they may have been running him and the midfield brigade through solid drills and such at training and it's all a mute point - but if we're going to put a half baked player out there in desperation (what it looks like), I wont be happy - it rarely works.

BTW, congrats on Faulks getting a run - was hoping to see him get an AFL gig this year. He'll be put on one of the Carlton's small fwds (Garlett or Betts).

Congrats to Faulks, I'd expect him to go to Betts because he supposedly has a good spoil on him and decent speed. Build up a tank on him and he might even go alright against rioli

Colombo in? Well, that's one good news I suppose, looking forward watching him play.
Sandi in may be a week too early. I think Griff will come in as a late change.

I think so. Betts has shown himself to be vulnerable to accountable, tallish mobile defenders. Not that I've seen much of Faulks, but that sounds like him.

BTW, to MadMac (or anybody) why Colombo? ... sorry for ignorance. :o

The lead character in the TV series Colombo was played by the great actor the late Peter Falk. Hence Colombo is an obvious nickie for our young bloke. Tho' I'm hoping he doesn't wear a trenchcoat on teh turf of Subi tomoz...

I see Griffin has been named for East Fremantle this week. Not that means anything, other than he is fit and ready to play I suppose.

He should badger his opponent with questions and never leave them alone, he could be as good at antagonizing as Frodo.

Yep I mean if sandi misses griffo comes in.I don't subscribe to playing 3 rucks at all.

with our short backline it would be one way to really test us especially if the weather is as nice as today. It then opens it up to Frodo et al to crumb a dropped mark if they do not snag it. About the worst case scenario for us. We will just need to dominate the midfield and not allow the long kicks into the Freo fwd line.
Goodluck tomorrow. Purple v baby blue will be a sight!
Hope the game is an entertaining spectacle of quality footy with 2 teams with a hell of a lot to play for

We're going to get smashed.
Yeah, hard to see otherwise. Their midfield is better than ours, we struggle to contain teams with one decent small forward let alone two. The major weakness Carlton have in defence won't be opened up by us because we're terrible forward of centre unless Ballantyne fires.

Righto champ, if the Hawks can do what they did to us with a midfield at half the rat power of Carltons then we are in some serious strife in the middle.

We just dont have the midfield to match it at the moment.

Judd, Murphy, Hibbs, Robinson, Simpson.

Vs

Fyfe, Pav, Broughton, Crowley, Mzungu

It's going to get ugly.

Scotland gets over looked way too much. He is AA this year without doubt.

I'm seriously concerned by the lack of height in our backline, in which i think you will try to expose. The Eagles exposed us for this, and sure Jammo went down in that game, prior to that the Eagles were all over us.

Should be a cracking game. I'm expecting no more than a 3 goal win. Which way, i'm not sure as to yet.

i noticed we named chris mayne as our centerman on judd.... wonder if there is a realistic chance of him doing a tagging role? he would have teh toughness and endurance to stick with him.. reckon he would get lost at the clearances though.

i know we never play our players where they are named, or in general we dont seem to, but what are peoples thoughts on this?

Those team sheets are rubbish. There i no way Thornton will be starting back unless you guys go in with a huge forward line, nor Henderson & Yarran starting forward.

The forecast is still for a wet day which would suit our short unit, one would think.
If it does get particularly wet, Sandilands may just be pulled out of the game.

Whichever way, we have a serious contest coming our way. This won't be easy for either team.

I like the additions of SNOS, Mz, Barlow, Clarke and Lower but we will miss the taggers of Mcphee (Judd), Deboer (Gibbs) and JVB (Murphy) from last year.

I remember this game was a standout for Pav, Hilly, Walters and Johnson.

Who needs to step up and have big games...

as i said we rarely line up as named, and i wasnt really interested in thornton or where any of your players were named for that matter, i was just intrigued by the mayne/judd positioning and whether there was actually the possibility of playing mayne in a tagging role
