crowley to judd- judd loves playing freo, and we have to accept that he is going to dominate. given that deboer and mcphee are out, we have to bring crowls in. judd isnt as quick as he used to be, so i think crowley can keep up with him speed wise... if crowley can keep judd to 25 touches and no goals, that would be a win... not confident on this though

I have a couple of problems with this (a) it would involve Crowley coming back into the side (b) it would involve Crowley being heavily involved in stoppages and (c) it would involve Ryan freaking Crowley playing on Chris freaking Judd. It's not 2007 anymore.

Crowley is terrible for us offensively around stoppages and defensively it's where all his biggest weaknesses against Judd will be most evident.

crowley is one of our fittest players... judds speed is no longer the explosive pace it once was. i dont see anyone else that could run with him

Crowley may be one of our fittest players but he has two speeds... jogging and flat out, and they're so similar they may as well be one pace. And neither are fast enough to get near Judd.

Would rather Ibbo on Judd. Better match for pace and explosiveness (better than Crowley anyway). Strength, no. But if Crowley can't touch Judd, he can't tackle him.

Suban on Betts. Suban is accountable and good overhead, and reasonable covering a lead. And Betts doesn't usually drift up too high so hopefully he won't blow Nick up.

Mzungu on Garlett. Lacks the explosive pace of Garlett, but not too bad. Ibbo is a better matchup for Garlett, but I'd rather Ibbo go to Judd.

Like the other two matchups, particularly the Hill vs Murphy one... and as you say, as a tagger that tries to hurt Murphy the other way, rather than a straight head-to-head.

EDIT: Bringing in JVB as noted by Reems would be handy. Would allow us to swing these matchups around a bit if some of them aren't working. e.g. JVB could go to Garlett or Betts and do a pretty reasonable job. He's a good negating player generally, so if Mz struggled with Garlett or Betts ran Suban's guts out JVB could swing onto them instead.

dont know where you heard that, crowley was subiaco's best player last week. JVB is a dud, he shouldnt be play for us again

We must've been watching different games. He got the ball a lot but did bugg3r all with it.

Thought Horsely was better than Crowley by quite a bit. JVB isn't great, but I reckon he offers more than Crowley. Crowley has been a great player for us over the years, but he hasn't provided much in the last couple.

Pav playing forward is the thing i would least want to see as a Blues fan. He's just the sort of player we struggle to contain. He's mobile, has fantastic hands and is very strong, so i will be most happy if he lines up in the middle.

Luckily for you Harves has been granting opposition fans' wishes all season.

211 and Mundy back...

Fremantle add Crowley and Faulks to join Sandilands at the expense of McPhee, Bradley and Roberton.

EDIT: For those wondering, Ross Lewis is from The West...

Lower to Judd?

Also like the idea of Barlow on Murphy. Also, as a left field suggestion, why not try Fyfe on Judd for patches?

As I said a few pages back though, the biggest issue for us is stopping their marks inside 50 - we have been smashed by our opponents each of the last 3 games in this area. Walker, Kruez, Sooky Warnock and especially Betts can all take heaps of contested marks. I'd be tempted to maybe play an extra man as a sweeper across CHB for parts of the game - come on down Pav? - we need to fill the space in their forward 50 and disrupt their leading patterns as much as possible.

I reckon their mids will get heaps of possies no matter who we play on them, the key therefore is to make them as ineffective as possible when they go forward, and try to hurt them as much as we can each time we get a chance on the rebound. Sounds obvious I know, but FWIW we really haven't seemed to apply ourselves to the obvious things in the last three games...

Good chance for Faulks to show us what he has to offer. Happy with those changes, Kepler was ordinary last week and his rucking isn't needed. Looks like Crowley to Judd and Mzungu/Ibbotson to Murphy.

Mcpharlin, silvagni and Faulks? It's not like Carlton are blessed with lots of key forwards....

I'd expect one of McPharlin or Silvagni will go forward.

Then again, given it's Harvey, maybe Grover will be played forward on Yarran?...

Hope Mayne has a run through the midfield, see Harves has him lined up in the centre,
with his pace, strength, tackling and bash and crash he could be a serious weapon around the clearances to partially nullify Judd

Something like this. You'd have to think they've realised we need a target up there, SNOS and Macca can certainly take a mark.

This is a good tactic, I have being focusing on the losses we have had this season.

It has come down to teams flooding back into our forward line.

But I think the coaches have reviewed this and now are trying new tactics.

Don't be surprised to see Betts & Thornton leading up the ground and try to take leading marks on the flanks/wing. (they have done this the past couple of games)

And it seems they then have Gibbs and walker stick back with others rotating through.

But as you said if you have the class of Pavlich running across the forward line it could interrupt the cut backs of Gibbs.

Which in doing so enables you guys to have a quick rebound and just get it down to you're forward line as quickly as possible, with Sandilands 1v1.

Should be a good game!:thumbsu:
