He's a 25 year old mature recruit.. if he can't make good decisions now, he won't ever make good decisions. Handballing directly to St Kilda players doesn't win you games.

Rubbish.Mzungu might be 25 but he is still super inexperienced at AFL.
I would be surprised if mzungu doesn't improve with another pre-season under his belt.

Don't put words in my post. I didn't set any low benchmark by my post, I simply responded to you claiming it's an indictment on our playing list. Our playing list has improved, there is no doubt about that. Have we regressed this year? Yes, but there are factors involved in that. Is our list 32 players deep? No. It was not at the beginning of the season so it is certainly not going to be now.

I'm not putting words anywhere. Improving from two years ago means nothing.

To claim that 'I want our list to be the best'. Do you think your the only one? Do you have that high an opinion of yourself that you think your the only one that thinks that? Practically every single poster on here wants our list to be the best, it's not yours to claim.

They say they do, but then you read thousands of posts excusing poor performance after poor performance, and it tends to look like they're happy with being a fringe of the top 8 club.

If our season falls flat and we finish with nine wins (which is looking exceedingly likely), then that is no better than any season under Connolly.

It's time to start putting this season into perspective. We've gone backwards in a massive way, and it's down to far more than the injury excuse.

Unless we become genuine finals contenders within 7 days we are history for this year. Things have to change right now.

Trouble with Mundy coming back is he wont be sharp straight of the bat and will have lost some fitness. Suban and Barlow might be better with another game under the belt.

Sandilands is the key- With him we might just make it.

Bring in Mellington and Bucovaz to crack some heads.

We will beat Carlton this week. Why?

  • With Mundy in the midfiled, Barlow getting better, Broughton playing well, Fyfe being Fyfe and Mzungu getting better, we will match their midfield
  • Hill will get loose and damage off half back and the wing
  • McPharlin, Grover and Ibbotson will dominate their forwards
  • Duffield will find his previous run and carry off halfback
  • Pav will play in the forward line and dominate
  • Frodo will kick a bag against their average defence
  • Mayne will back up his performance against the Saints this week with ruthless tackling and pressure
  • Sandi and Clarke will dominate Warnock and Kruezer

Mundy in for Hinkley. Roll the dice Even if he is underdone he will get match practice/fitness at AFL not WAFL. Play him at his old role at HB, odd stint in the middle sub off at 3 qtr time. Or if no sub put him forward.
Sandi in if fit otherwise keep Keps. Once again rest Full forward depending on fitness and would be a nightmare for Blues backline.
Mayne on Gibbs (cracking match up)
Crowley.....unfortunately too slow and is now the 3rd choice tagger before McPhee, Deboer. Lucky for him theyre both out so v Judd ( who will smash him) he'd smash anyone in the AFL on his form tbh but Crowls has got to Minimise his impact and get under his skin even if he has donut possessions.

Ibbo --> Judd
Mzungu --> Murphy
Mayne --> Gibbs
Ballantyne --> Yarran (though Blues may try to free him up)
Suban --> Garlett
Grover --> Betts
McPharlin, Silvagni to play on whatever tall mugs they decide to move forward.

Pavlich to play closer to the goalline.

Sounds good to me. :thumbsu:

Improving from two years ago means nothing.

All clubs have that downward 'hit' before getting to where they want to be, numerous examples of that.

If our season falls flat and we finish with nine wins (which is looking exceedingly likely), then that is no better than any season under Connolly.

So what, Connolly is gone. We can't even best last years win total from here.

It's time to start putting this season into perspective. We've gone backwards in a massive way, and it's down to far more than the injury excuse.

I think everyone has it in perspective and quite a few did before the season started and before our cruel run with injuries. I can't be bothered with it but count the number of games missed by our Top 12 players and consider our depth in those positions (ugly). At best we all knew we needed a good run with injuries to better last year, didn't get it and we've suffered, players aren't fit, tactics and positions are chop and change.

We can yap and crap about it any which way, the point right now is get behind them and try and get us in the finals. In the off-season we re-tool, cut more dead weight and move on.

with mcphee and deboer out, i can't see anyone good enough to go with judd who will have any sort of affect. i'd almost put silvagni on him as he's the closest thing to a quality, close-checking defender we've got, but we'd be robbing the backline. we need to do something about him, though. carlton without judd are a much more manageable team.

Before v Carlton someone needs to sit down with Suban and review the frees he gives away. It's one area of his game that hasn't improved at all (compared to players like DeBoer for example).

I love his attack, we need him up and playing hard, but I don't think it's overstating it to say his game needs some tidy-up in that area.

I'd like to see Hill get the job on Judd. Make him accountable for something.

Would love pav closer to goal but me thinks now, pav will probably go to Judd.
Maca v walker
Grover or suban v betts
Hill v garlett
Mayne v Yarran(plays similar role to Goddard)
SNOS v kruezer,when resting up forward
Mzungu v Murphy
Broughton v Gibbs

We'll probably play Judd like we did Dal Santo. Just let whomever go head to head and hope we can contain the others.

Hill > Simpson
Lower > Murphy

We need to control the tempo in this one, cannot get into a run and shoot with the Blues. Can't wait to see Clarke pants Warnock.

I don't reckon lower has the stamina to stay with Murphy.
Lower v McLean

For those esaying bring in Mellington he got injured for West Perth yesterday and had zero stats so is no chance

F*ck.

Who kicked that black cat while walking underneath a ladder and picking up a coin heads-down.

This season is a f*ckin' joke. Need to track down a voodoo witch doctor or something. Based on the Weagles luck this year I suspect they've already got one.

I'd almost be inclined to put Mzungu on Judd & Ibbo on Murph, switch em around.

I'd prefer the other way around. Ibbo has a bit of extra explosive pace, a little bit more strength and is more used to playing a negating role... admittedly not in the midfield, but no reason he can't. Murphy doesn't have that extra boost of pace, and I think Mz could keep track of him pretty well.

Neither are really ideal taggers for Judd (DeBoer would have been perfect, bugg3r it all!) but they're not a bad fit. Crowley would get torn a new one vs Judd so I'm hoping the match committee don't go there. Bad, bad matchup.
