Muuuch weaker team this year.

yeah i thought that when i first saw the team... but looking at it again, JVB and walters are out and neither of them offer anything. hasleby was on his last legs.... it might be a slightly weaker side, but i wouldnt say by much... its a shame, you add mundy to our team for this weekend and id say the teams were on par

Walters kicked two goals in a game we won by one goal.

in general he offers very little. i believe we will get more out of hinkley than what we would walters at the moment... faulks is another, we really dont know what he is going to offer.

In general, Walters offers goals.

As much as I rate him, he seriously needs to be tied to a treadmill over the pre-season though.

A fair few of the players who were in the side, are in completely different form this season as well. Hill, Duffield and Sandilands in-particular.

do you expect him to be at the club next year? i would have thought he would be delisted

I honestly have no idea. I hope he's at the club next season, but I really don't know the ins and outs about why he's been on the outer this year.

His fitness/conditioning has always been an issue IMO. Then again, he was part of our fat draft - Suban, Walters and Bucovaz were all at the top end when it came to the skin fold testing - so maybe that shouldn't surprise me ;). The general consensus around BF seems to be that there is a lot more to it than simply fitness though.

He's been unavailable for 10 weeks (and counting) due to injuries this season which probably doesn't help his cause.

On talent he's good enough to be in our best 22. Application seems to be the only thing holding him back. Not exactly an uncommon trait in 20 year olds though...

I don't know why people think Walters is some sort of problem child. It seems to me to be one of those BigFooty self perpetuating rumours. Never read /heard anything outside these boards about him having a bad attitude.
He's a super little talent, needs a few more years in the system and he will be a great small forward, the idea that he'd be delisted is ridiculous IMO.

one thing i will never understand, is how people can stick the boot into a young first year player like jayden pitt, or into a guy like peter faulks who until this week hasnt even played a game with us.... yet a guy like walters who has been on the list for 3 years and has had a questionable work ethic that whole time, gets a free pass

yes walters is talented. last years finals series he played well. but he is slow, he is short and he doesnt have the peter bell-like work ethic, to get past some of the attributes he lacks in to make it as a regular 22 player.

i want walters to succeed, i really do, but i dont want him to sit on our list, not putting the work in and never reaching his potential. especially if we have to let a guy like tim ruffles go to keep him.... ive mentioned it before, our best option with michael may be to delist him, and re-rookie him to try and give him the kick he needs to reach his potential... but the unjustified love for michael baffles me

Agreed, kid has some serious potential. Just unlucky this year with injury.

ive heard it from an assistant coach himself... that michael doesnt work hard enough on the track. plain and simple... he isnt a problem child off the field, as in getting into fights etc... but he simply isnt professional enough on the track, and when it comes to recovery etc..... after 3 years it should have dawned on him that to be your best you have to do everything right... just like what pav does, or judd or any of the best players do

He's 20.

Maybe if he was Brett Peake's age i'd agree but give the guy a chop out eh? I don't profess to just dismiss his work ethic issues but take into account his age and give him a couple more years before pulling the trigger.

if the club wants to go that way... fine, as i said, he is super talented, rookie list him...

Given he would've had enough talent to cruise through his entire junior footy career, is it really a surprise that his work ethic isn't all that flash? Now that he's been at the elite level for a while he's probably only just finding out, that hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard.

He broke into the team late last year, played some finals, probably thought he had it made, started the season in our 22 and then...got dropped. He then went back to the WAFL, played a couple of games, then...got injured. He got fit, played a few more WAFL games, then...got injured again. Personally, I'd hope that would be enough to make him never want to lose his spot in the 22 again.

As an aside, Pavlich, Judd and Co. are the exception not the rule. Most 20 year old kids are no different to Walters; they do the bare minimum required to get the job done. What would you say about a 20 year old Dale Thomas? Talented kid, does the flashy stuff but he doesn't work hard enough?

yeah i do agree with this... it hasnt all been roses for him, he has had injuries. i guess what gets me is that so many are prepared to jump on pitt's back, and yet walters is given a free pass. especially after i spoke to the coach and michael knows that the coaches think he doesnt work hard enough.... i just think we should rookie him, and hope he gets the hunger to work.

it has never been a question of his talent... i think the thomas comparison doesnt suit so much, in that thomas was probably a bit soft, but he isnt a midget, he is extremely quick, and a great mark with a high leap. he probably has more going for him with his physical attributes to get by... michael doesnt have that..... it would probably be a good idea to get peter bell to mentor him, as he IMO is probably the player he should model his game on. and we all know the unbelievable drive that belly had

Belly is a dick though, wouldn't be that keen to have him mentoring our young players. In my opinion Walters will make it, with him we could have the same kind of small forward duo that the Saints and Carlton have at the moment.

I have it on good authority that Hinkley has been given an ultimatum similar to that given to Roger by CC many years ago. Hinkley to play on Garlett and hold him scoreless.
