Ainsworth and Petch over Schofield and Jetta in an elimination final is a real headscratcher.

Petch has looked awful, quite frankly, and Ainsworth is going to have to reprise his poor Masten imitation without an obvious tagging option. Obviously they’re not strictly like-for-like options, but we’ve been moving magnets around enough recently to show some pragmatism in team selection.

How Petch gets the nod over Jetta is beyond me, given that the club was willing to try Jetta up forward, he showed much more in that role than Petch has this season and only lost his spot through injury. Combine that with the fact that Petch struggles with decision making, pressure, defensive effort, tackling and intensity at the contest - pretty important things in finals footy - it beggars belief that he has been picked.

I’d love him to prove me wrong but I suspect we’ll see another ~8 touch, 1-2 tackle showing with some real perplexing kicks. In his 5 games this year he’s kicked 2 goals and laid 7 tackles. I appreciate that he was injured and is getting back into the swing of it but rolling the dice on him playing his first passable game of the year in a final is a risk I’d rather not take.

Late change?

Not really sure why we opted for Ainsworth and Petruccelle. Can see why we opted against bringing Hutchings back in given he's missed games and Sidebottom isn't playing who is his best match up. Would prefer one of Jetta/Schofield over one of Ainsworth/Petruccelle. Rotham listed as injured so I will assume he is N/A.

None of the interchange or emergencies have played regular midfield minutes.

Would much rather play duggan as a full time mid, fu** ainsworth out of the side and play schoey.

This absolutely. Duggan offers more than Ainsworth as a mid and I'd back him to tag as well if needed despite not a lot of exposure there. Certainly has better size to push mids out of contests.

And more teams in finals have gun third talls or big mids who play forward (Dangerfield, De Goey etc) which is a perfect matchup for Schoey, Shep's better at the Charlie Cameron types. He gave De Goey a bath in the GF.

Would make us a stronger side I reckon

Jetta is done. Something must have happened. Great player thanks for your services mate.

Devastating imo. He has bled blue and gold since he has got here and it shits me that Ainsworth is being gifted a finals game ahead of him. I love Simmo but * me mate.

Curious. I actually wouldn't mind this if we don't go all the way. Would suck to be bowled out week 1 of finals but I wouldn't hate a Pies premiership in this strange season.

Pies flag. Are you feeling alright?

Na in all honesty I hope the winner of tonight sends the Cats out in straight sets. I have a sneaky feeling Brisbane might have played their GF last night.

If not it shapes as a Port v Brisbane GF which makes it a genuine Covid Cup.

Anyway, let's hope for a cracker tonight. Give Kennedy a rest if he's NQR with that ankle.

Petrucelle selection makes me nervous af
I just pray that he kicks 5 over the back goals or something crazy.

The optimist in me says that he will be given the opportunity to attack more with Cripps in the team and a seemingly more mobile team across the board. But I don't have faith in his ability to tackle, he can't run in at full pace for a tackle and get side stepped every time, it's such a rookie error.

Yeah I don’t see what he adds either tbh. Always finds a way to fumble it or scrub the kick. I’d take a Jetta turnover after trying to squeeze it between 4 guys over Petchs effort. At least you know if Jetta got the ball 7 times he’d make them count.

Yeah Petruccelle has been given so many chances and looks like sh*t every single time. Surely Cameron is fit by now???
I think he is done for the year, but that is just a guess seeing as he had groin troubles the same as Yeo. Probably never truly got over them. Lacked explosiveness in the games he played.

Jetta >>>>>>>>> Petrol ******* hell simmo.

Dump Schoey aswell? Man ******* ruining our cohesion and ******* up our culture simmo. Man this remind me of GWS dropping Stephen conglio did nothing but fu** up there culture and demoralize their team. We are two down with Petrol and Ainsworth. Actually three down if you include Ah Chee.

Three FWD getting < 8 possesion and doing fu** all. My god. In our premiership year all we had was venables as the light weight now we have three.

Sadly since we have no Yeo, Rioli, Cameron and Venables we stuck with those 3 as next best i guess.

I don't see why.

He's not going to be the difference between a win or a loss you'd imagine.
Most clubs carry one or two.

We pretty much carried Venables 2018.

We've has Reid, Ainsworth and Cameron there to name a few who have had no impact.

I've just set the bar really low for him.
If we get anything out of him, it's a bonus.

I liken him to Gryan Miers. Did you see him on Thursday night? Neither.

Unfortunately Miers only looks like he’s never kicked a football. Petrucelle kicks like it.

Midfield looks light on and we’re not playing an extra defender (or two) as we’ve done recently.

I think Ainsworth is back in the defensive winger role, with a starting midfield of Kelly, Shuey, Sheed and Gaff on the other wing, and Redden rotating through.

I’d like to see Schoey in late, push Cole back up to the wing and either drop Ainsworth or use him as a defensive forward (but on who? Maynard maybe?) and drop Petch.

I also hope to see Schoey, or even Jetta as a late in. The experience is important come finals time. Plus Gov coming off a hammy and also just tends to get tiny injuries outside of that as well.
Rotham is a loss out of the backline too. He has some height if not bulk. Looks to me that we are a defender short.
Duggan and Cole have been doing well as part-time midfielders, certainly better than Ainsworth.
Schofield has done really well on De Goey who is the most dangerous forward.
