Hopefully we've clarified with the AFL on how the finals will be umpired. Will it allow man football or man in dress football or something even more unexplainable. The rules and the way they are adjudicated have become a ****ing shambles to the point no-one can explain what is going on. Put the whistles away and put down the red pen. Let them get it on.
Unrealistic attempt - get ****ed, insufficient intent - get ****ed. Innocuous umpire contact - get ****ed. Front on contact - WTF?

My changes (assuming Rachele not quite ready for 1st final)..

Butts for Murray (unfortunately Nick has looked a bit off recently, and I felt we looked stronger down back with Seymour)
Max for Draper. Max can also go back if our defence is under the pump.
Nank for Dowling. I feel Nank is a bit cleaner with the ball and Billy was awfully loose against North - although he did hit the scoreboard.

Taylor lucky to stay in...if Rachele's deemed fit, then that's a direct swap - even an underdone Rachele would prob get more than half a dozen possessions.

Bond stays as he did a pretty good job against Elliott last time, and should be rewarded with another chance.
Smith remains sub. Has been good in that role recently.

Davis comments on Murphy suggest he is more than a chance to play on J Daicos in final.
Gave him huge wraps- so don’t be surprised. Don’t kill the messenger here. At the MCG game J Daicos tore us apart on that day so I definitely think he’s in the mix no matter what people say.
I am not a Murphy fan. I have however been curious about when and how he has been selected in the AFL.

Murphy has been selected in the 22 on three occasions (Gold Coast, Hawks away and Collingwood home). On all three occasions he has played a “run with” role on the oppositions most dangerous exit defender. These players have very high uncontested possessions due to handball receives and players short kicking to them. Josh Daicos has averaged 18 uncontested possessions per match this year. Against Murphy he had 8 uncontested possessions and 4 of those were kick outs. Melbourne didn’t seem to worry about Josh Daicos on Friday night and consequently he had 11 uncontested possessions in the first half.

Is it worthwhile effectively playing with one less forward in order to stop the ball going through Josh Daicos hands? I am not convinced that it is but it depends what the small forward he is replacing offers. The other question is whether Murphy is the best man for this role, I’m not convinced that he is.

Zac Taylor has been playing the old Murphy role. He doesn’t take a specific player and his primary role is to put pressure on the ball exiting the D50. It is hard to quantify how successful he has been but he is a lot better hurting the opposition when he has the ball.

I agree with you Bigman, selection melts are a distinct possibility next week.

Against Collingwood in finals

2002 prelim
Adelaide 9.9. (63) lost to Collingwood 13.13 (91) at the MCG

2008 elimination
Adelaide 14.10 (94) lost to Collingwood 19.11 (125) at AAMI Stadium (crowd: 37,685)

2009 semi
Adelaide 11.12 (78) lost to Collingwood 12.11 (83) at the MCG (crowd: 62,184)
That 2009 one still hurts.

I was ready to get a Kurt Tippett tattoo after his almost match winning heroics.

2008 was just flat out embarrassing.

Something that is interesting, purely academically.

Intermittent high frequency sound can be disruptive to sleep. Especially if it is so high that only younger people, people who are 22 for example, can consciously hear it. If a sound like that was playing it would be less likely to be noticed and complained about.

An example of a sound like this is coil whine.

There is a Woolworths down south that has a faulty light fixture out the front of it that has a coil whine that causes feeling of nausea in some people. Most people cannot hear it though.

I think we should be the Saturday night game. They used to always play the number 1 seed the later game because assuming both 1 and 2 win it swaps by the prelim so that the 1 team plays Friday and the 2 team plays Saturday giving the extra rest before the grand final to the top team.

Ie assuming all the top teams win:
Week 1 Thursday EF 6v7
Friday QF 2v3
Sat afternoon EF 5v8
Sat night QF 1v4

Week 2 Friday 3v6
Saturday 4v5

Week 3 Friday 1v3
Saturday 2v4

In terms of Rachelle, I’m no guru when it comes to conditioning but he’s been doing fitness work over the last few weeks with his brace on. He will have 2 and a bit weeks of running since the brace come off. Plus we are talking about an athlete with a high fitness base.

You play him, manage his minutes, sub him early if he’s blowing up. I’d take half a game from Rach in a final over a full game of any of our other available small forward options.

Would need to play him as a deep forward I think

This one will be a powder keg on and off field. Could get very ugly and I’m not talking metaphorically about the margin of the game.
I beg all of the fans attending, of which hopefully I am one, to not stoop to slurs and abuse to the players. Sledge, yes for sure. But if one single fan goes over the line they'll be called out for sure we'll all get tarred with the same brush.

Let's be hostile, very hostile, but keep it above board.
